Have you tried using the "Vox" setting on the radio instead of the speaker mic. My personal experience of the Baofeng mic's is that they are terrible. I now have the uv9r+ that I take with me in the truck connected the a diamond sg-m507 dual band. 73 De 2E0LFD, Baz.

Will i get a lot better signal with a 5/8 wave length mobile antenna for 2m with a handheld? Im thinking about buying a antenna and relocate it to the back of a backpack.
@Bluejay19685 жыл бұрын
Hi Jakelol1980, theoreticaly yes, but there are factors that affect it. In areas where the landscape is undulating a 1/4 wave can perform better due to its wider angle of transmitted signal. Your best bet is do some tests and see what works best. 73 Duane

"you're a little bit quiet" this is because on narrow-fm (UK ham) deviation on these cheap Chinese handhelds is below par. I use to drive people up the wall because I'd cause them to turn up their AF gain to talk to me and they'd get blasted in the ears when the repeater call or anyone with a decent mobile rig would call in. Participating in local natter nets I'd cop loads of heat for it. These work and they're great for talking amongst mates at a ham fest or getting started but definitely invest in a quality mobile rig if you're going to be enjoying the hobby. Or even a quality handheld rig. Want to test it? I know this is certainly the case in my situation as all my uv-5r, uv-82 and bf-888s were tested just by monitoring gqrx using an SDR. You can see just how poor the deviation is, plain as day in the waterfall diagram if you compare it to that of a decent brand name handheld rig.

THIS BAOFENG IS DIFFERENT THAN MINE. IS THIS Uv5R?
@Bluejay19687 жыл бұрын
Radioaficionado Cafetero yes that is a uv5r. There are quite a few styles of the uv5.
@ELITEMESSIAH3 жыл бұрын
Nope, tried all this, the Baofengs are not gripped properly in those phone holders so as soon as you start putting your foot down the darn handheld wobbles about or slips completely out of the mount.

I have been known too but unfortunately I don't have hf capability at the moment and i am limited to 2 and 70. I do use echolink etc so maybe that would be an option.

Hi Edward, there is nothing expensive here, the mount was from a bargain discount shop around £2.99, the radio can vary depending on what you use, but baofengs are very cheap under £25. Speaker mikes again vary but can be bought for under £10. The antenna adapter around £3, and the antenna again depends on how well you want it to perform and much you want to spend. A small magmount that will do the job can be bought for under £20.

Tony Carr its not meant to be aesthetically beautiful, its a simple practical method of getting a radio set up in a vehicle.
