I've been looking for a good, modern Gamecube controller for years now, and the solutions I found were all lacking in some way. I was happy to see the features I want, but crowdfunding made me skeptical of this project. What sold me is the fact that you already made the entire controller open source. That alone has made me excited to support your work. Hopefully the crowdfunding campaign goes well!

I completely understand the reservation. I've backed a campaign before and been ghosted and it's one of the worst feelings. You can talk to other people in the modding community and I would hope by now that I've gained a good reputation with the ProGCC that even if I don't get something right, that I will do what I can to make it right. We really would not be doing crowdfunding unless we absolutely needed to. The big hangup is injection molds and the wireless certifications. These are very expensive processes and we do not want to jump into this unless we know we have everything lined up :( Than you sincerely from the bottom of my heart

As an indie platform fighter dev, super excited about the XInput support! My game is Javascript-based so it can't support GCC natively, meaning my GCC players either need an adapter with a PC mode (which is often janky) or need to configure third-party software like Delfinovin. Having a plug-and-play solution to remove that friction is huge!

@@MitchCairns In case any players/other devs see this - the WebUSB route is (currently) a dead-end for GCCs, and I don't believe WebHID would work either though I'm happy to be proven wrong! @Sin_Alder3 ай бұрын
Wait, since when are adapters for PC janky? Don't get me wrong, I want a Gamecube controller with native PC support just so I don't have to keep my GC adapter always set up at my desk, which is already enough of a mess without it, but I've never personally experienced a Gamecube to PC adapter that's had any problems. Sure, you need something like Steam Input for using it with any PC games that weren't made with GCC in mind, since it has fewer buttons than most modern controllers and that can be a problem, but still, never had much in the way of problems with Gamecube adapters.
@CounterpickLabs3 ай бұрын
@@Sin_Alder My reply keeps disappearing :( Might be too long haha, so here's a shorter (still long) version: - With Steam Input it might be fine, but without it many (not all) PC mode adapters have really janky mappings. - Yes I can detect + hardcode proper mappings for each nonstandard adapter, but it's a pain and there are always ones I haven't seen before popping up. - Many players don't know about Steam Input (especially for the web version of my game), and any amount of friction is really bad for a free-to-play game. Player demographic also matters - I get a ton of casual Ult/Brawlhalla/io-style game enjoyers. - For example, I have a handful of negative Steam reviews from players with 5 minutes of game time who didn't like the default keyboard controls (which are of course re-bindable). I spend a ton of time trying to smoothen out the new player experience as much as possible, so any extra help (like this controller's existence) is exciting! And of course this controller's launch won't solve everything since most of my players won't actually be using it, but for every player that does it's a win in my book.

I really like this. The customization options and multiple outputs for different consoles is really cool. If I can point out a idea for a feature, it'd be neat if the ends of the cords for consoles like the GameCube and N64 had the ability to double as bluetooth dongles, so when you unplugged the controller it would go into bluetooth and be wireless similar to modern controllers. Just a idea I had. Although it's probably something to not include to keep the price down but I don't know hoe expensive that would be to add. Definitely later on down the line though you could sell wireless dongles for the bluetooth modes maybe and have later revisions of the controller be compatible and add "V1" somewhere on the shell so people can tell what model they have.

I have zero nostalgia for this stuff, I had no Nintendo consoles beyond the SNES, & even I'm interested in this controller. I'll consider buying one once it's released, assuming the price isn't too nuts in Canada, especially considering we get mugged by import fees. If there are any suggestions I can give, though, it's: 1 - Add back buttons, customizable/programmable back buttons are not negotiable anymore. I've modded in back buttons into every pad I use that didn't come with them. 2 - Give d-pad options; make it swappable. Making each direction an individual switch is 100% the correct decision, but giving cover/pad options can make it so those who want to use a d-pad in fighting games can do so.

FINALLY been waiting for a controller just like this. Make sure to make it compatoble with the blue retro internal adapter!!!!

This is exactly what I've been looking for in a GameCube controller. Pretty much the controller of my dreams, and something I've been considering making myself via controller mods. I'll definitely be considering backing it on kickstarter. I have two major criticisms, however: 1) I think the start, select, home and (I'm assuming the capture button) are all a bit too close together. I'd love to see them a bit more seperated. A bit closer to how they're laid out on the Pro Controller would be great, or even just further up and separated a little more. They also look a tad small to me? Might need to be slightly larger. Assuming these are prototypes for now 2) The split d-pad is great in concept, but personally I find that the dpad is so difficult partially because it's so small. In my opinion, I think I'd prefer to see a slightly larger d-pad, and maybe the option to have it be a split d-pad or a connected one. I'd also love to know if you have any plans to do a purple colourway. I know it mentions on the kickstarter page that there will be stretch goals for more colourways, but a purple one would be amazing to see. Excited to see how this comes along!

1) the button placement is final and well-tested. The buttons are clicky/tactile and very easy to press (Think of the Plus/Minus buttons on a joycon, but maybe even a bit easier to press). you can easily reach all of the said buttons (Except the power button, which is 1000% intentional) 2) Split dpad is also well-tested and I wouldn't be pushing it if I didn't believe in it 100%. It's one of those 'try it' things where I'm sure it will surprise many at just how good it feels to use.

Can you promise that this controller will have availability and reliable manufacturing? It's hard to have faith that we won't end up with another Frame1 type of incident. Every time a new good controller is shown off for kickstarter, it is always impossible to acquire.

The primary hangup to production right now on a scale that makes sense is injection molds. Once we have molds done, it's much easier to batch out a few thousand at a time. Hope this helps

there's already built-to-order prototypes available, lots of people love them and my friend who is super picky with controllers (who got a prototype early because the dev liked his janky controller internals) really likes it

My only suggestion is to not go with a split d-pad design but instead a tac-switch d-pad if possible. If done well you'd have the feeling of the original but with a significant improvement to input accuracy at the trade off of being well, clacky but with a d-pad of that size I think it's a fair trade off.

If the face buttons and d-pad were tactile/mechanical, this would be absolutely perfect. Love the feature set this already has though! I would also love to see the RGB be addressible by RGB PC software such as OpenRGB or Signal.

Honestly? I’d gladly buy this controller! I think the d-pad should also be RGB, especially since it’s clear! I also love that the buttons are separate, reminds me of the PlayStation controllers and that’s one of the reasons why I love the dualshock 3/4/dualsense!

Looking into it although it's a cramped spot and I don't want chances of the LEDs getting knocked off there. Under consideration!!

My wife says the only issue is the shape of the c stick, if you have an original shaped c stick or its compatible with the original C stick we're in.

I'm hoping the 2nd joystick can easily be swapped for a c-stick. I also wish it wasn't an exact copy of the GCC shell since the handles are not ergonomic at all and one of my biggest issues. They need to be flared out more and just bigger in general to be more in line with every controller that has been released in the last decade as far as ergonomics and not forcing you to scrunch up you index fingers for the shoulder buttons. Aside from the that it looks really good, I and I wish you luck, but I've spent too much on GCCs already, what with a Phob and still the thing I wish for the most is decent shaped handles to stop my big hands from cramping up so easily. I did buy the shoulder buttons seperately (or at least some version of them from you guys) and they do help somewhat and very nice to use with Rivals 2 that don't have anything like light shields, so I appreciate those at least.
