Nice video, thanks Gille! I can recommend the HD-1. A very well made radio that seems to perform quite well (although it needs to go into the city to see how it holds up in an RF rich environment). Easy to program from the front panel which is excellent, and you can spin up and down the bands with the top rotary in VFO mode. Just got an RT-3, and learning to use that one now as well. Cheers and 73!

Thanks for this informative video Gil, and that RT3S looks like a nice radio. I am very new to DMR, so still have a lot to learn, and the radio I have is a Anytone AT-D868UV, very similar to this Retevis. It also has dual band and dual mode....but as I said, there is a lot to discover and understand about DMR. Have fun and best 73 ! Patrick ON4CDJ

You know, on your boat you don’t have to worry about altitude and losing lift 😝. But you may worry about depth and rocks. On the plane we constantly are thinking of engine failure and where to possibly land. On the boat you have to think of wind and currents upon an engine failure. But we both worry about visibility. ..your mentioning boat makes me compare these two in my mind. Cheers

Definitely. I am a pilot too.. Everything is faster in a plane but shit can hit the fan very fast on a boat too 😉

@@RadioPrepper Glad to know you fly too! I find that for me the positive side of the stress accumulated on a difficult solo flights is that for a week after, every moment feels like a blissful relaxation 😝! I seriously think lately about switching to paramotor: take off and land from any place, no pushing in and out of hangar 1 ton of machinery (and more on the TB10), no dirty, greasy cabin - smelling the wind and the fields, no club fees…. Almost like your radio activation trips, one can drive with their wing to a place and take off from there! For me repeating the same airports starts to get old after 7 years… Cheers! PS I started slowly to study for the French exam, and talking about pilots, how come we don’t have to memorize all the formulas there (though it is a more dangerous activity than radio amateur), yet for the French exam we have to memorize all these twisted formulas!!! Grrrr…

Same reasons I was always interested in gyrocopters as well.. I might yet decide to build one.. I flew ultralight and regular single engines. The French love to complicate everything... They can't accept other people succeeding 😞
@RosssRoyce2 жыл бұрын
@@RadioPrepperGyros have absolutely amazingly short take off and landing roll distances, probably the closest to the paramotor - mere meters! If you build one, pls chose a model with a parachute: I’ve been reflecting on the qualities of the gyros and everything is positive, except if a bird strike happens and break off one of the blades there is nothing to keep the machine in the air or let it glide… On the other hand, engine failures autorotation (from videos I’ve seen) look extremely comfortable! Incredible for storage too, no need for a big space or hangar. PS waiting for this radio on the mail, apparently this open source firmware (77 something…) can turn it into a satellite tracker with a minimap, timing, bearing, azimuth and trajectory…
