Try Day One. Far simpler and better. And has a super fast search function too. With this app you will never be able to find a memory written decades ago, unless you remember the date - and with a super memory like that you would need journalling anyway. Without even a basic search function, this Journal App is useless. Very disappointing from Apple.

Loving this Journal app! As someone who finds it hard to actually do journaling, the app makes it a breeze. I love how it lets you add what music you listened to that day and asks what memories you have tied to a particular song. Love the suggestions also. Great app so far!

Apple did it smart by making it available on a phone first since it’s prob the one thing you always have in your hand. Allows for quick entries at the moment and add photos and videos. After you’re good on the phone it will be added to continuity for iPad and Mac usage.

Oh, and one more thing, you can long press on a note in the notes app and then touch “share” and you have the option to share it straight in the journal app! Maybe that helps someone! The copy-paste thing (for text and photos will be easier to journal app).

You cannot really create a new passcode just for Journal, the app only lets you use the one already created for unlocking iPhone. Thanks for the great video.

There is no option to search key words or entries in your journals. You can just jot everything down but cannot find it back again. Also it would do amazing if it were to be integrated with the mood app.

The separate passcode in my opinion SHOULD SIX digits OR alphanumeric like your iPhone passcode BUT CAN NOT BE your iPhone passcode This observation SHOULD ALSO APPLY to the Screen Time feature passcode

It’s great that it’s out on iPhone, but considering that it would be fun to use it on the iPad with either the Magic Keyboard or the Apple Pencil, it is definitely a missed opportunity to immediately feature it on iPad. Suggestions are great if you don’t know what to write about and need inspiration. Also, would be cool to be able to capture the time and date in a stamp that goes near to top, and maybe even stamp the song you were listening at that time, whether it was on Apple Music or Spotify. Or YTM. Great work though.

I love Day One, but I hate using 3rd party apps. I'm going to give Journal a try. I haven't heard any good things about it especially whne compared to Day One.

For me the new Journal app is next to useless if its only on iOS as I use my iPad more than my iPhone. I would want a Journal app to work across all my Apple devices. Hence, I don't plan to use it, as there are already other journal apps that work across iOS, iPad OS, Watch OS and Mac OS, such as Day One. It's even available on Android, which technically means I could also run it on Windows 11 using Windows subsystem for Android!

Unfortunately, there's no way to do that right now since the Journal app is exclusive to iOS. There's no Apple Journal app for Android, and I'm not sure if Apple will ever bring it to Android. Plus, the Journal app is still relatively in its early days, so down the road Apple might add new features and maybe allow exports across different apps and on Android.

For now I will continue to use the notes app. I have already deleted the app. In the Journal app you cannot assign colors to notes, you cannot adjust font size or font. I don't need suggestions for writing in a diary either. Is that the only thing Apple can release with a new update? Did they work on that for so long? Very disappointing from Apple.

I'm really disappointed that it's NOT cross device. I use another Journal app on all three of my devices because I journal at different times and location. When I travel, I like using my iPad in the hotel, my iPhone on the go and then my MacMini when I get home. Allows me to continue it all together.🐬

You can’t actually create a separate, different passcode from your iPhone passcode for the Journal app. Not sure why that is stated as such in this video. I was really disappointed to find out you can’t actually do this. My Journal entries are very private thoughts and my kids have access to my phone for certain school apps.

Sucks rocks it's not available on iPad or Mac. As an older user with poor eye sight I hate using the phone for anything other than calls. I would use this daily if it was available for Mac. As a long time Apple supporter (and share holder) it positively sh!ts me that Apple ignore the Mac in so many respects for iPhone focused users. I'm not saying it shouldn't be on the phone, but at least make it available across all devices. Same with Health app - it's staggering I can't view and read health reports on my Mac. Looks like I'll need to spend money for Day One.

Any iOS only app that uses extensive text entry is a joke. No person in their own mind would want to do journaling in an iPhone. As a supplemeny to an iPad or macOS app yes, but not on it's won. Not for me. Simila apps of any value all have apps for iOS, pasod and macOS (drafts, bear, dayone etc).
