The R10 is destined for my bag as a second camera. Price plays a part in that decision. But so does size and feature set. One thing that doesn’t get said is that these two cameras offer a tantalizing potential sneak preview for the expected replacements for the R and RP. If those cameras also have some of the control, drive speed increases, and AF features that the R7 and R10 have, I think you’ll see a lot of people flocking to them as well. I know I’d upgrade my RP in a heartbeat.

Does the fact that you will nly be able to purchase Canon R-Series lenses and have no access to third paty options have any bearing on your decision?
@t.rexroadtrip3041
@t.rexroadtrip3041 2 жыл бұрын
Not really. I think that the situation isn’t fully resolved yet, despite the collective freak-out over its supposed finality. Right now, the few third party lenses that I am interested in are mostly lenses that I’d be likely to purchase in EF mount and adapt, like the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 Art. Licenses direct RF-mount releases are likely to be years down the road anyhow, and I have a fair amount of shooting to do between now and then.

@DaveTCSTV
@DaveTCSTV Жыл бұрын
Hi and good question. Both cameras are good choices featuring crop sensors and a host of features for both stills and video. You really need to decide on what factors one has over the other that appeal to your needs. The Canon has a more traditional viewfinder placement over the 6400's rangefinder style for example. Factors like how many frames per second may sway you to or from one model or another. Either way both cameras can deliver very good results, just decide what features are important or not important to you when you compare. Thanks

The R10 or RP? I'm an amateur, mostly into casual, street photography. I've held the RP, felt great in hand. Which one will get me better stills results? I'll probably keep it in auto mode most of the time. I'm guessing RP will be better at night, walking about taking hand held shots?I know the R10 is a little bit lighter but they're close enough. to me weight is important, so I won't be considering more pro level full frame or even apsc cameras.

Thanks for watching. I like both models as they represent a great value on the market. For casual and street I tend to lean towards the RP. I really like full frame however if my style of street involves faster frame rates and more aggressive AF then the R10 is very impressive. Tough choice, let me know what you do or if you have any more questions. Thanks

Where does this leave the R6 in relation to why would I be this R6 full-frame 20mp sensor body over the R7 APC-S 33mp sensor body. Apart from sensor size these 2 body's seem to be competing for similar target markets? Any thoughts Dave/Evelyn? Stu
@TheCameraStoreTV
@TheCameraStoreTV 2 жыл бұрын
Besides price and sensor, there are a few other notable differences. The R6 has a nicer (higher-resolution EVF), and I personally prefer the control layout and slightly more robust body. The R6 also has better lowlight sensitivity. (-6.5EV vs. -5EV) On the other hand, the R7 has better battery performance, and a faster shutter (15fps mechanical and 30fps electronic) vs. the R6 with 12fps mechanical & 20fps electronic. I think the R7 is a very capable camera is competes well against the R6. But, it comes down to some personal preferences and what you will primarily be shooting with it. -Evelyn

@@TheCameraStoreTV Thanks for your feedback and advice Evelyn. I suppose it really comes down to choosing the right camera to suit your own style of photography and your needs. I want to move up to a full frame camera but I just feel the R6's sensor is a little too small for my needs and the R5 and it's resulting size of files too large. The R7 seems a good fit but with a crop sensor...... - Stu

I think the R10 and especially the R7 are absolutely brilliant cameras for the money and that Canon is going to sell a ton of them. They will likely have trouble keeping up with demand. I would like very much to have the fantastic AF system, IBIS and some of the other neat features of the R7 However, personally I won't be running out to buy a pair of R7 to replace my 7D Mark IIs. For my purposes (a lot of sports, a bit of wildlife and a few other things), the R7 comes up a little short. For one, it baffles me why Canon didn't make the R7 compatible with the BG-R10 battery grip used by the R5 and R6. The R7 is within a few millimeters of being the same size, so this should have been a no-brainer. I use grips on my DSLRs not only for the add'l battery, but also for the vertical controls. The R7 isn't designed to accommodate a battery grip (confirmed by Canon). While on paper the R7 claims more shots per battery charge than 7DII, I am nearly certain that's not the case. When CIPA shots-per-battery testing is done, if a camera has a built in flash, it is used for 50% of the shots, greatly reducing the number of shots because the flash is a heavy drain on the battery. Simply by not using the 7DII's but in flash, I easily get double the rated shots per battery and often much more. The R7 doesn't have a built-in flash, so it's rating (around 700 shots) is likely pretty accurate. Sure, some power saving is probably possible, but I suspect it still will fall well short of what's possible with 7DII. Combined with the lack of a battery grip, this means buying and carrying more batteries and having to pause more often to change them. When you shoot 3000 or more images at a sporting event, this is a consideration. Of course, for many people it won't be a problem. My other big concern is the odd control layout. I shoot sports with several cameras and need to switch between them quickly. Right now all my cameras used for that purpose have very similar control layout. I know from experience using very different cameras in fast shooting situations leads to mistakes. So I wish Canon hadn't "messed with already good ergonomics" the way they did on the R7. Again, while this effects my work, it won't bother most people who are only using a single camera and can easily become accustomed to and probably even enjoy the placement of the controls on the R7. For me there also may be issues regarding the buffer and/or memory card bottleneck... As well as some questions I have about durability. The 7DII is rated to do 200,000 shutter actuations and the 90D 120,000. Those both shoot at up to 10 frames/sec. The R7 can shoot at 15 fps, so I would hope it is rated to do 300,000 clicks, but haven't heard anything about this from Canon. And seeing how it is said to have 90D level weather/dust resistance, I suspect the shutter life expectancy may be rather low. Again, this may be a concern for someone doing high volume sports shooting, but may be fine for most other people. I am not ruling out buying R7 eventually. I may just learn to deal with the short comings because the camera also offers some tremendous benefits. In the video there was mention of more RF-S lenses in the future. But if you think about it, since these cameras can use both RF-S and RF equally well, the range from 16mm to 800mm is covered pretty well with a number of reasonably affordable lenses. The only thing really lacking is something affordable that's ultra wide. And since EF & EF-S lenses adapt so well for use on R-series cameras, there are some quite good options even for ultra wide. Where the R-series are lacking is in 3rd party support. That will change in time, but I'm surprised we haven't already seen more than the very few 3rd party lenses we have (capable of AF and electronic aperture control... there a quite a few strictly manual 3rd party lenses). P.S. While Canon denies it, this marks the beginning of the end of the M-series. Nice little cameras for a lot of things, Canon will undoubtedly consolidate under the RF mount, phasing out EF, EF-S and EF-M over time. (Canon has mostly treated M-series like an ugly step child, anyway.) I believe they've already discontinued products in both the EF/EF-S and EF-M systems. Some good news is that there will be a lot of good deals on the used market, as people shift over to the R-system!

I think these cameras and their lenses should be EOS-M mount. It doesn't make good sense to use APS-C lenses on 35mm cameras, it just cripples them. I have a 5Ds, I can crop to APS-C dimensions in post and sacrifice a few pixels in comparison with my 80D, but not really enough to worry about. And the ability to crop to intermediate sizes is useful. The R5 is a good-enough alternative. The lack of APS-C lenses has always been a problem for Canon and Nikon APS-C cameras, it's the reason I mostly use a smaller format now. To support these cameras properly, Canon has to produce an extensive line of APS-C lenses for them, and I don't see that happening. Had these been APS-C cameras, the promise would be there. To me, Fujifilm's X series is looking better.
@bngr_bngr

Canon only has made a limited number of APSC lens. These cameras lens mounts take full frame lens. They give that x1.6 reach. They are really meant as a bridge camera to full frame. Fujifilm doesn’t have fast super telephotos.
@Captain-Cosmo
@Captain-Cosmo 2 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. I really hoped that the R would be dedicated full-frame and the M line dedicated to APS-C. Under such a scenario, there could have even been a pro-level M body that Canon would not have had to cripple. Not enough M lenses? Every new APS-C lens for these new cameras could have been an M lens. I like the new R bodies, but I still like the mirror experience, too. I currently shoot with a 5DIV, 90D, and M50II. All have very different uses. With an eye loupe, the hybrid 90D offers a terrific "mirrorless" experience while finishing the line as the most advance APSC DSLR Canon would ever produce.

People who have invested in the M system will probably not be moving over to the EOS R systems. I myself have the EOS M50 and EOS M 6MKII and 12 M mount lenes. What am I supposed to do with this gear? No one wants to buy it because of the lack of Canon support for the system. I have a significant amount of money invested in the EOS M system. One can't just toss that aside. Money doesn't grow on trees. Very bad treatment from Canon regarding this system. And they are still selling the M 50 MKII! If they are going to drop the M system, they should at the very least figure out an adapter. I know the lens distance is an issue, but they are Canon, Engineer something. They took our money we paid in good faith. The EOS R system had to be long on the drawing board when they were pushing the M system. Perhaps they should offer us a buyback program. They need to do something besides stiffing their loyal customers. The M system is a great system regardless of the improvements in the R System....JMHO

These would have been option but with canon issuing cease and desist letters to third party lens vendors for the AF lenses this removes them from my consideration because it increases my costs for casual everyday camera. I will stick with my SL1 or find a refurb SL3 and continue to use my EF series lenses for the next few years. Canon's strategy is now clear. Ignore the M-series. Transition consumers to the R-Series and purge the landscape of third party lenses while increasing the prices of their own R-Series lenses to a professional level leaving consumers to pay dearly for casual everyday use and to extract maximum funds from content creators, sports photographers, and nature photographers. This is a scorched earth approach top forcing a market and I think it will eliminate most consumers and leave only well funded professionals with startups looking ot Sony.

@@TheCameraStoreTV The slow apertures on consumer lenses and pro lenses that are oversized and L glass that has external zooms, just all seems backwards to me. This is coming from a man that mainly uses vintage glass too haha

I agree. It seems that a lot of the latest consumer lenses are now at a slower aperture of F6.3 whereas a 'kit' lens for a DSLR would have been F5.6. Even the RF 100-500mm is F7.1 at the telephoto end, it's so frustrating especially given the prices now!
