This is the first watch from a luxury brand that I actually want to start saving up to get it. It's affordable for a Tudor but still very expensive for a watch, yet it still pushes you to wear it every single day without fearing getting it damaged or stolen. Just a clean, subtle watch that works wonderfully. Great job Tudor.

I bought an early 2000's Ranger with Bracelet and NATO strap as the second owner. It's is by far the most comfortable and useful utility watch of my collection. So easy to read day and night, feels like a million dollars on my wrist and no one has a clue what it is it when they take the time to look at it. Best money I ever spent on a watch!

Kind of a sweet spot for a low end collection. It's expensive, but it's wearable every day. Dresses up and down easily. And it's made by the Rolex family without all price.

You're wasting your time saving up. Just go and get it on interest free credit from the jewellers. You can get either four or five years. It's the most sensible way to pay. It'll cost around £40 per month in instalments. It'll actually cost you more money to save up and pay in cash, plus you can just have the watch right away.

Bought one 6 days ago at Watches of Switzerland at an International Terminal at Heathrow on my way back to the US ( great deal at $2623 on bracelet). I heard all the negatives about this thing. Before I bought it, I too had some negative doubts. You've heard them and so did I. "Oh, it's too big, the indices suck, needs silver surrounds, too much empty space, and needs crown guard". This is a man's watch meant to be worn by men who don't care about BS. It's a women watch for those that dare! Period Take it or leave it, I've given up on getting the BB Pro GMT and the Pelagos 39mm. I've got the right watch, at the right time, on my wrist right now.

Went to my local Tudor Boutique this morning specifically to choose either the BB58 or BB Pro. True didn’t like the Ranger in pictures but in the flesh it just floats my boat, clean uncluttered legible dial, so much so I walked out with one on my wrist. My first Tudor and first ‘luxury’ watch purchase. It won’t set the world on fire but it is what it is, a field watch. I’m a very happy bunny!

I had the chance to put my name down at my local AD for the 36mm explorer and came away feeling underwhelmed after I tried the watch on, just didn’t feel like a watch that justifies a price tag of £5700. I love it! For years I was thinking about buying me the previous version of the Ranger, until suddenly it was discontinued. Now it comes back and all the things that had me in doubt with the previous one, are improved (movement, size, text on dial, end links on the bracelet...), so I contacted the AD and they have both the one on the bracelet and the one on the hybrid strap in stock. I'm probably picking one up on a bracelet later this week. I also own a 39mm Explorer 1 but I think they both have their own character and they'll both have their place in the collection.

This my first Tudor..been admiring this brand for sometime. I am a small time collector with a speedy pro co-axial, submariner 116610LN, daytona 116520 and Fleiger chrono. Rolex have been annoying me for sometime now, i won't witter on about it but i just find them arrogant. And Omega seem to be going down the same route. Tudor i find a refreshing change and their recent models have been very impressive, especially the black bay and pelagos ranges. i like mechanics, i appreciate craftsmanship and find it incredible how watches can be made with the precision and quality that they have. when i saw this model for the first time, it was attracting me..not in a wow way but it just looked like a really good no nonsense timepiece that did what it was designed to do..tell the time in legible and accurate manner, that was comfortable, extremely well manufactured, was robust and nice looking in a no-nonsense, unfussy, uncluttered way. I went to my local AR paid the deposit and waited..a month later it arrived and i put it straight on my wrist where it has been for the past 3 weeks. It is an amazing timepiece..it just sits there with no airs or graces and does it's job..and the way it is growing on me is very strange, i love it more each day i wear it, in a way no other of my watches have. My speedy pro and sub etc know they are king and sit there expecting the adoring glances..on the other hand, my Ranger does the opposite, it's as if it is embarrassed by my admiring looks as if to say 'why i'm only doing my job'..in a kind of way it is a jobs worths watch and i love if for that... it's not 'amazing', 'incredible' 'unbelievable'..it's lovely, lovely watch and i'm so happy i bought it. I would happily pay £2420 all day long for this kind of quality! £2420? what a ridiculous price, i'm sure Tudor made a mistake with the pricing on this one?

Terrific no nonsense review Adrian 👏 the history of the ranger goes back a long way with many iterations over the years , great to see Tudor getting it right reflecting on past watches . You took the words, right out of my mouth. When I saw the press photo's of this model, I wasn't all that intrigued. When I saw footage of it, on your wrist, and was able to see it in more detail, I completely changed my mind about it. I dare say, that it's one of the more interesting releases, I've seen all year. I actually, quite like the "spade-shaped," hour hand. I think it suits, as it reminds me of a rangers, folding pack shovel. The bracelet is phenomenal, IMHO. To be fair, the whole package is. Especially at that price-point, ever cementing Tudor, as the "every-man's, watch company." I think that your high-level photography, helped to illustrate those points. The design ethos, is ever apparent, between "Tudor, of old," and "Rolex, of today".....so to speak. That comparison, being made possible, thanks to the shots of the "Ranger," and your, "Explorer," side by side. Great job

Just got my hands on one of these at an AD in France. It’s brilliant! I loved the overall solid build, simplicity and elegance of the bracelet, with the perfect amount of taper. It has a magnificent presence on the wrist which I think is due to the size ratio between the case and the dial (It feels larger than a BB58 although it isn’t) and yet remains somewhat understated. The crown and movement feel solid when interacted with. I’m not thrown off by the colour of the markings and hands. It could have been different (white) but it works. I still have to decide if I want to buy a 2800€ watch with an all-printed dial. This is really my only dislike with this piece and I’m not sure if I’ll become tired of it because of this or not. And because it looks similar to an explorer, but it’s not an explorer. (Hmmmm) life’s so hard…

Tudor should never have discontinued the Ranger but, the 70th anniversary of the British Greenland Expedition seems like a great marketing window for Tudor to do a rerelease. I guess that was quite a good move because it allowed Tudor to resize the watch to the size of the discontinued 39mm Explorer. I’ve always liked the Ranger. The price and retro-styling makes it clear that this is not and will not be an investment piece. That being said, the professional’s watches are often quartz so it can fall back under the excuse that “I’m built for functionality and not design though!” less and less. The longer I’m in this watch world the weirder it seems to call and treat mechanicals as tool watches. It’s a bit like a guy driving a spotless Humvee around Downtown LA. For me, the review that sums this one up the best is by the Not So Obvious Watches channel. 100% you can’t fault the heritage, the bracelet etc etc. but there’s absolutely nothing interesting or even close to inspiring about this from a design pov. It’s full and in line with pretty much most of what Tudor put out. Devoid of personality and derivative of something that goes along the lines of “once upon a time there was this Rolex watch…”. For some folk it’ll be an awesome acquisition, and that’s great. I just can’t imagine the situation where you’d look at your watch box and go “yeah, the ranger is the one that really suits best what I’m doing today”

Awesome , direct to the point review! Having a Tudor GMT Pepsi as my first expensive watch and followed by Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage, I find this new Tudor Ranger boring looking on pictures and video initially. But I realized that a watch that you want to keep forever is a watch that you daily with great brand name and history at an affordable price. And also a watch that has exclusivity that you don’t find at Walmart or Macy’s etc… Don’t get me wrong, I currently own a Seiko King Turtle Manta Ray that I bought for $460 as my daily. The Tudor Ranger is the kind of watch that you can use for daily and classy occasions without breaking the bank. Preferably if it’s the only watch you’ll have and keep.

Great looking watch. Love the 39mm size. The “t” fit bracelet. As u said, it should be a given on all watches moving forward at Tudor. I do wish Tudor would do their deployment straps with the strap sitting next to wrist and not on the outside, like the planet oceans / 300m diver. It’s just a cleaner more practical application in my opinion. The in house movement and the sleek thin profile make it a win for any occasion. Excited to see a review from u when ur given more time with the watch. Btw, ur commentary on watches is superb and one I throughly enjoy. Keep them coming mate. Bravo !!!

Not a fan of the fauxtina on this watch. It usually doesn't bother me, but here it does. It may be due to the font used for the numerals. I would like to see a titanium version of the Ranger with white indices and numerals.

I've had this for 7 months now and it's becoming a favorite. I own some Rolex watches as well and I enjoy wearing this just as much as them. I'm still trying to get a new Exolorer I in 36mm or 40mm but for now this really scratches the itch. The only thing I wish Tudor did with this watch is make it 37mm vs 39mm or offer a different version in 37mm.

I picked up the Ranger four days ago… I own the navy, bronze, 925, and black, as well as the heritage 41, The Ranger is wonderful with two small points 1 the lume Is really disappointing Two The metallic tip of the hour and depending on the light can become completely invisible blending in with the background. Beyond that if you like a 39 mm watch it is perfect. The tapering as opposed to stepped bracelet, absent of rivets, and with the T -fit clasp is perfection.

Absolutely loved this release. Tudor made exactly what have to do. They bring back Ranger into lineup, this is the best field watch of our time. I admire it, great proportions, great design, its own face, great movement, as always great quality and even a fully brasher bezel says this is a real explorer's watch. All that's left is to buy a Land Rover Defender jacket M52 trekking boots and go to the edge of the world. What I didn’t like: with modern case an bracelet very old school dial, paint numbers, fotina, just one line of text on 6… all that confused me. I like a lot but I didn’t wanted this watch, Im Tudor fan have 4 Tudors (bb41, FXD, LHD, 925) already and really waiting new Ranger 39mm, but after release - I’m not sure 😅maybe my points should change after trying on wrist 🤔

One thing that's always held me back actually purchasing a Tudor were the straps and bracelets. Like Grand Seiko, I always felt like they did not measure up to the standard of the watch . I know you can change it, but to spend several thousand dollars knowing you are not really satisfied is hard to do. I have been looking for a simple pilot-style watch and this just might be it. I was considering a Railmaster but it's not enough watch for the money. I'm also on the waitlist for an Air-King, but, well... am I really, and will I ever actually see one?

Okay -- there has been a lot of discussion about the new Tudor Ranger, and it seems most of it is positive. It's a handsome watch, and I'd like one. But as with so many watch designs, the typography is decidedly dodgy. Firstly, the 1 is too tall, and it's too tightly spaced with the 2. Also, the kerning on the Tudor logo is a bit iffy But there's something that type nerds like me can't get past. Tudor has used the typeface 'Arial' on the face, for the word RANGER (and Geneve, Swiss Made). What's the big deal? Most people won't notice, but there's a little irony at play here. Arial was adopted by Microsoft (it already existed, but MS developed it further) as their default font for what would become the Windows operating system. Rather than pay licensing fees to use a typeface family (like Helvetica, from Switzerland) from a big foundry, they created a clone that would copy the look, and more crucially, the exact character spacing of Helvetica. So if your printer wasn't loaded with many licensed fonts, Arial could be a direct substitute for Helvetica, without reflowing the text in a document. So, long story short-ish, Tudor is using a font (and an unattractive one) that is a low-budget copy of a famous Swiss original. See, irony! Why use a default font from a '90s PC on a Swiss watch celebrating the 70th anniversary of the exploration of Greenland? The devil is in the details, and all that.

From a design standpoint I think Hamilton blows this out of the water at 1/5th the price. The powermatic 80 is within 5 seconds instead of 2 a day so technologically its a thinner better designed watch. With Tudor you aren't even getting much brand recognition either might as well get a Hamilton. Unless you feel like a hunk of stainless steel on your wrist is somehow luxury...

I would 100% buy this watch for casual/weekend/holiday use. The price is almost p+sstake low. This is about what you pay for a service/repair + a new strap from the eggshell merchants over at Patek Philippe! The same money gets you a brand spanking new COSC certified chronometer that could probably take a complete f---ing beating and still perform. I have nothing against very quirky numerals; Britain has lots of very good examples of early signpainter’s lettering in industrial contexts. Something to know though about the basics when making type: round letters - and numerals - need to overshoot the square ones to look optically correct. That’s the problem I have with the 12. Also the 1 and 2 could have benefitted from a bit of spacing. Otherwise great that bracelet has been improved and the watch has the COSC certified movement. I guess that’s why it has that size.

Love it (feel the same about preference for snowflake hour but as you said, not as historically accurate). Love the bracelet, the printed dial, the proper end links, the size, the domed crystal, all of it. I'd buy one without a second though, but I own a 2503 railmaster, and it's stylistically as close to the same watch as they can get being from 2 different manufacturers, and PR aside, the ranger wouldn't be an upgrade from the Omega. I'm honestly not even sure it would be a lateral move given the excellent finishing and greater WR of the omega. But, glad to see this release. I'll be admiring it from a distance.

I always said that if Tudor came out with a 38mm Ranger I would buy it. This 39mm version almost had me, but I don’t like the painted dial. It looks cheap to me. For almost 3 grand US would it have killed them to add applied indices? Tudor had a chance to make this their Explorer by going a little higher end while maintaining a field watch vibe. A 36mm version would have been nice as well. Its a pass for me.

I have to see it in the flesh. But I think I'll skip this one. I recently bought the IWC Mark XVI and it's perfect for me. It's the same style but much more refined and the bracelet is the best bracelet ever. Although it's interesting to note that the Ranger and the Explorer only have the 3,6 and 9 numerals and on the IWC Mark XVI those are the numbers that are left off the dial. So maybe I can still justify buying one of those.
