The benefits of community... You can make community around any idea or practice or enjoyment. It doesn't require a being who isn't present and no one knows anything about (because no one appears to have ever detected one). Building community is necessary and it's a very human thing. People are saddled with gods they believe are at the core of their community. That's the cross they have to bear. That's the community that was piled on them before they had any idea how to evaluate it. What church does is make community (based on this vapor and how people feel about the vapor) easy and automatic, and there's certainly can be some benefit to that. Life is hard enough without everyone having to build their own community from scratch.

Oof, the parts where they delve into woo topics are always the least fun. Take "matter changes if observed by consciousness". When we say "observed", we mean "measured". And quantum is the study of stuff so small that just hitting it with light changes its properties. It doesn't matter the tiniest bit if there's a sentient being nearby.

Yes exactly. As a researcher who works on estimation theory, with a close friend in the field of quantum physics, specifically on the quantum measurements and estimation, I'm so disappointed by the pseudoscience being spread relentlessly. And this one kind of hit close to home. Science has been appropriated by all sorts of pseudoscience and misinformation. Popular science and tech journalism seems to be a big part of the problem. Tech news reporters tend to put the microphone in front of businessmen and investors (who have zero knowledge about what they are talking about but a huge conflict of interest) rather than interviewing the actual researchers who invented the technology. As for science news reporters, they keep oversimplifying the conclusions of the studies as fun facts, often dramatizing them, while failing to report the procedure/experimental design, assumptions and scope. This kind of fast food reporting leads to the decline of critical thinking when consuming scientific information. This is not good for the society, as we can see in the rise of pseudoscience influencers like RFK.

"believe" vs. "believe in" Believe in has lots of extra baggage wrapped up in it, and almost always a big part of that baggage is "worship". People need to first decide what's believable (for rational and even semi-rational reasons),. But once someone tries to convince them to drop their rationality, that's when your guard should go up.

Once people have evidence-based rational reasons for believing something, they don't call it faith anymore. They just call it what's true. That's because the executives of most local TV stations are typically interested in the Oscar enough to purchase the license to stream it. I'm actually not sure if the Oscar is streamed in my country because I never care to look up, probably it is only accessible on expensive cable networks. All the social fabric and Sunday school and Bible school and Wednesday evening teen nights... What chance does a child have to evaluate what she's being told, when they are being told what to think by their community of authorities and their community of peers? What's the tool that's most important to learn in all of these faith community gatherings? Mutual validation. Children are being taught how to validate each other's faith (by example and by practice), which is what makes it possible and palatable to pass faith on to children.
