I've had this heater for 2 years. I think this heater is great for certain purposes. First I don't mess with the temperature and timer settings at all, I leave the temperature at max. I also use this under my desk on cold days. It's perfect in that it's not on the on the floor where I could easily kick it over. It does a great job of keeping my feet and legs warm. I have been impressed that I haven't had any issues with this heater at all and have run it consistently on the last 2 years.

I have a "Radia" radiant heater from the 40's. I found it in a house we cleaned out for a client and it was still in the original box with the tags still string-tied to the cord. It is cast-iron and chrome. I looks lust like one of those big, rectangular halogen light fixtures that have the protective wire grilles over them, but without the glass. That is mounted to a 6 inch tall, ornate cast-iron pedestal. The heating element even clips in the same way as a halogen light fixture, but much more firmly. The element is some kind of sintered, creamic/metallic rod, and is very light in weight. The heater has no controls. You plug it in, it's on. The cloth covered cord and even the prongs on the plug stay stone-cold even after running it for hours on end. But the room, which is 8X13 with a 7 foot ceiling, will get so warm that I have to pull the plug after a few hours. Totally silent. No fan, No 60hz hum, nothing. (OK maybe the occasional "tink" sound as it heats up or cools off) The nameplate says it is rated for 100 to 130 volts and 1,100 watts. This heater, paired with my ceiling fan on low, is wonderful. Modern electric heaters are cheap, chinese plastic-y junk. The Only flaws I seen with this old Radia heater is that there is no tip-over cut-off. But there are no kids or animals in my room, and the cast-iron pedestal weighs about 10 pounds, and I pull the plug when I leave the room for more than a bathroom run, or coffee run to the kitchen so it's pretty much fine.

Awesome little heaters. I use one in my travel trailer, about 168 sq. ft., and it works great at heating up the interior in a very short time. The heat projects about 4 feet away from the unit, but the heater casing does not get hot to touch. The heater doesn't read the temperature of your room, so most of the "tests" people do aren't accurate. It is designed for a small enclosed area, and not recommended for bathrooms or other wet areas. No cords to trip over, and can be plugged into a counter level socket without danger to children or pets. Bought two more I use in my house, use them all the time.

Everyone who has the slightest clue about physics and electronics should know that these things can’t work as advertised. They say it’s energy efficient. Nice... but what is heat? Well in this case electric energy converted to heat. Usually that kind of power loss you try to avoid with any other electrical device. So calling it energy efficient just says „it has literally no power“ in nicer words. TV claims it only draws 370 Watt of power. That means nothing more that it produces not even 370 Watt of heat (due to some energy is needed for the control unit and the fan). That’s nothing! An average toaster has about 800 to 1000 Watt. Nobody would try to heat a room with a toaster so why using a device that is not half as powerful?

I received three of these as a gift. The temp here is currently 3 degrees. My heat was set to 68 and my new furnace was struggling to keep it at 61. I put one in my kitchen and one in the living room. My thermostat is now registering 65..in the two hours since I started them. Neither one has kicked off...obviously, not perfect testing weather and could be because it is now 12 outside...but, not ready to dismiss the heaters yet!

Thank you for the two reviews. I had figured this would not be very effective and your tests proved it! I have a nice small tower heater I bought from Walmart and on its low setting of 300 watts, it will take the chill off my bedroom, if I shut the bedroom door. The room remains comfortable when I run it overnight, but the temperature difference is not over 3 degrees from the rest of the house. However, the circulating warm air is just enough that I do not have to sleep under heavy blankets!

I have one of these heaters and have been using it off and on for days in a cold room that averages 64 degrees F. The room is small maybe a ten by twelve size. For me the heater works. If I leave it on and set at 70 degrees it will reach 69 degrees within an hour. Now I have done that several times. This room has a door which must be kept shut in order for it to do anything. The room has a window which can be drafty letting in cooler air. The led light that glows orange is never the heating element glowing only the led light. I think it heats well for what it is and in a small room such as what I have its very nice to raise the temps up to a more comfortable temp. I do believe that the design of this heater and its fan output could have been made a bit better to create better air flow but other than that it does work for me as advertised. And the fact that it cools down the element first before shutting off is a serious bonus to me. I do like it and it works, still they could have made it better. I have a 200 watt comfort zone heater that is very impressive with its quiet yet powerful fan that works very well in the same room as the handy heater. But it doesn't have a digital readout or a thermostat and it doesn't cool itself down or shut itself off either. And it has only one speed. However with its airflow it heats just as well as the handy heater and it has a cord so I can move it around more to my liking. These types of heaters are never going to heat anything more than a small room. They are no designed to heat a garage but for a small room they can do the job very well.

It comes down to how well insulated the room is. If the room is losing heat to the outside world, slower than the heater is putting heat into it, then the temperature will rise. If the room is losing heat to the outside world, at the same speed as the heater is putting heat into it, then the temperature will remain the same. If the room is losing heat to the outside world, faster than the heater is putting heat into it, then the temperature will fall.

My mom purchased one for $29 and I really wish she would have contacted me first. There is a plug in right next to the bathroom mirror so when I am at her house and shower (it's always cold where she is on the WA coast), I plug it in and turn in on. When I take long hot showers, it actually keeps the mirror fog free. So...not a total waste. Does it heat the bathroom? Not at all. The problem is the cost of the unit. I went to Wally Mart and purchased a small corded plug in heater for $20 less, cut all but 12" of cord out of the cord, and it sits on my bathroom counter aimed at my mirror and works even better than the handy heater as the air can be directed to where I need it.

300w vs 1500w heater. 12x14'x8' room. The 1500w will, in 40degree room, raise the temp 15-20degrees. 5x the wattage of the handy heater. I use the handy heater in a 5x7x9 truck cab, and it raises the temp from 40deg to 55-60deg in approx 2-3hrs. Its handy for taking the bite off of frigid temps in small spaces. My bunk area is warm enough for me to dress at my leisure in the morning. My generator unit easily accommodates the heater watts usage.

300 Watt Ceramic heater, you need a small room for that one to work. IF it does, and in this case, it is better to buy a BIG heater. The problem is not that this problem doesn't work. The problem is that they sell a too small heater acting as if it is effective as a BIG heater. A cheaper big heater will heat up the room much faster. And yet at least it does something. It isn't a product that does nothing. An improvement over most stuff they sell.

It's a 350 watt personal heater , it's not going to heat a whole room . I purchased mine at Home Depot but you can buy direct from the Handy Heater website and get two delivered for $38 . Works great in the bathroom just to knock off the chill and also under a office desk . It's not going to heat a garage unless your garage is maybe no bigger than 15x15 with low ceilings ,lol . Physics folks . For the $$ it does great .

The problem is with the thermostat. It is not measuring the temperature of the room, but the temperature of the inside of the heater. Of course, this gets hot very quickly. The best way to use it is to set the temperature control to maximum. Then the heater will not shut off so soon. All fan heaters I've seen have this problem. A good solution would be to have a detachable thermostat that connects to the heater by bluetooth, or a wire. Then it would actually be measuring the temperature of the room. I don't know why I've never seen this feature, I don't think it would be hugely expensive to implement.

I have a similar one, it seems to work fine, i switch it on when i first get home after work and where i sit it gives me instant heat until the normal heating in my home kicks in. However, I do have it plugged in to an extension.so its not just plugged into the wall where im not in direct proximity to it. IMO i do not think they are intended to heat a whole room, it serves its purpose if u want instant heat. My dog loves it aswell.

It's probably good for a work desk or something, except they should make it so it has a separate plug instead of direct contact, it looks like it hogs a lot of space. I'm guessing they do that so that it has equal air all around it, allowing it to kind of float in mid-air rather than have its base make direct contact, but I'm pretty sure something can be done design/manufacturing-wise in order to somehow prevent or counteract that. Anyway, I'd say if your intention is to control your local climate right at your desk, either at work or home, I think this is probably perfect for just that.

I don't know if that sound fits in there. I mean, you do have to consentrate on what you are working on and the sound of a hair dryer less than two meters away could be a big problem :D And those red hot ceramics are a big fire hazard if you are working with papers, so this heater can not be placed anywhere near the desk level where you move papers and other flammable objects around?

Try setting the heater at 90°. See if that doesn't raise the temp in the room. The temperature setting ís a measurement of output. Not a measurement of the room temp. Raise setting to get the results you are looking for.

370W is about 1250 BTU in order to raise the temperature in a space, you must put more heat in than you loose. Think of it like a bucket with a hole in it. You have to dump water in faster than it exits thru the hole.if the heat load is greater than 1250BTU/HR, it just isnt going to happen. It is not a difficult thing to calculate, but you need to know surface areas, R values and inside and outside temps for all the surfaces in the space. If the space has volume, you also must circulate all the air thru the heater. How many cu/ft was the garage space? Thats a tiny fan so if the space was of any size it will take a very long time to move all the air thru the heater, all the while dealing with the heat loss of the garage to the outside... it shouldn’t have shutoff in the bathroom, since it was so close to that mirror I suspect it was somehow recirculating its own heated air and shutting down that way...

You should read the box first ! Rated at 400W. Any radiator is 1500W minimum for one small room. This heater is a hot air blower. Read the box info: thermostat : of the heating element not a thermostat at the opposite of the room; over heat protection: cuts off if overheating to protect the item and probably to prevent from catching fire. As written it is a heater not a radiator.

Since the room was 55 degrees, I didn't think setting it to 75 or 90 would make much of a difference. If that room had reached anywhere near 75, it would have been a huge success in my book. That bathroom never gets below 70, and I didn't think doing it again at that temperature would appease those who complained the first time around.

I wish I was only smart enough to look up reviews before I purchased these. What a joke. I ran one in a small bathroom.. and I mean small. I ran it for a little over 4 hrs and when I came home the temp rose from 58° to 60°

Why didn't you run it on the highest temperature? It's a cold garage & a large space. Can you try it at the max setting please.

The air only comes out at one temperature. The temperature setting merely tells the device at what temperature to shut off.

This heater is supposed to (per its own advertisement and commercials) heat a 250 sqft room and his garage is probably near that. Well if it is a single garage that is. I’m sad this product doesn’t work. I was going to get one for my sister. She has a very active five year old. He has nearly knocked over their stand alone a dozen times. While the garage may be too big for the unit, the bathroom was not! The commercial seemed to target the elderly which makes me doubly sad because they dont know (usually) how to use KZbin for product reviews. Thank you for saving me the $30 I almost threw away.

LosHihhuli In the U.S. it costs $29.99 (USD) plus s/h. So basically I would have bought my sister a $30 nightlight lol.

Setting the temp “higher” doesn’t make the air coming out “hotter”... physics, a great thing to study

That is Great! It does get cold & we do need 2 be mind full of our pets that r out doors. Those heating elements that people use 2 heat up a cup of coffee, I don't know if they can be in a dogs outdoor water bowl 2 keep from freezing? Our big out door doggie "Samson" he past on. So I will just have 2 experiment & find out. So mammy people have dogs dishes that freeze. So we have pet owners we have 3 be mind that they have fresh water ever day! Many more then once a day ,depending on the weather.
