This is fantastic! I'll bet you've given someone a great idea on how to make a modestly priced machine and we'll see it on the market soon. Great repurpose of that old air cylinder. More like genius....

Best I have seen so far, you just gave me a idea that relieves me of the COST factor and the ' Is it worth it" thing. I don't need a tire changer for more than a few hours every few months or so, I thought, would it be worth going to all the trouble and using up the space around here just for that. But Now looking at what you built there, I see I can build a tire changer, that is also a wood splitter and possibly a press, I can use all of those things here so I would get a ton more usage out of this type of set up. Thanks man!

I'm very interested in building myself a tire machine similar to yours with a bead breaker can you please give me a part number or where you got that hydraulic cylinder from thank you very much I appreciate it
@confabrication Жыл бұрын
It's not a hydraulic cylinder, George, but a compressed air one and as it states at 0:10 at the start of the video , it was salvaged from an old carpet machine I broke up years ago, so I can't help you I'm afraid.

Thanks, Leonard, for nice remarks . The bead breaking is certainly tough if attempted manually as I used to have to do, but this machine makes it a cinch.

I'd like to help you, Shane, but my only suggestion would be to try a place that deals with hydraulic machinery. They might be able to point you in the right direction.
@findingthetruthfacts22817 жыл бұрын
do have a alternative to make the cylinder system that could ideal on how to make one? Thank you.
@confabrication7 жыл бұрын
In answer to Kevin Norman - A hydraulic cylinder could be designed in, but unless it was powered by an electric pump, it would be very slow to operate. I used the air cylinder simply because I had one. These are usually available second hand if you try looking, and it's the way I'd recommend you go.

@confabrication4 жыл бұрын
Hi, izzzzzz6, The cylinder doesn't necessarily have to be from a carpet machine - it's just that mine happened to be. Any large one would do.
@motoxrider4503 жыл бұрын
@@confabrication what would the proper name of the cylinder be? And what else would have that type of cylinder??
@confabrication3 жыл бұрын
I would just call it a double acting air cylinder. I've no idea what else would have this type of cylinder other than a large, made for purpose machine of some sort- sorry, not of much help to you.

Yes, Rob, I sometimes lever the second bead over just as you say, and finish it off with a large rawhide mallet..

Nice machine! That cylinder would make a great forging press.
@confabrication9 жыл бұрын
The action would be too slow I think, OrionsAnvil, and the full force is only one tonne with 100 psi air pressure.I think a hammering machine would be the way to go for forging.

@@confabrication Do you know what size the cylinder bore is? I'm looking to make similar bead breaker with a 100mm cylinder. If my calculations are correct it'll do 750KG at max pressure of 150PSI. Do you think that would be enough?
@confabrication4 жыл бұрын
@@phil7791 My cylinder bore is 6" with a 1 1/2" diameter piston rod. I calculated that the downward force (taking into account the area of the rod, as the pressure is acting on the back side of the piston) at 100 p.s.i. is 2650 Lbs (1202 Kg). So with your set up you'd have 5/8 of the pressure I'm getting. As to whether this is enough, that is the $64,000 question - probably o.k. for tyres that haven't 'bonded' themselves to the rim. Tyre size is not really a factor, I've found Hope this is of some help.
