That’s a personal decision. If you have a tall house, I would leave them at 4” spacing. For a 1-story house, I’d probably go closer.

Great review, can you customize the light string and turn off some of the lights? Say, have every other one or 2 turned on only? If I remember correct Govee allows you to do that in there pro series. Thanks

Great video thanks for sharing! I feel swayed to go with these over Govee pro. That said curious what you think about the lifespan. Govee says 50,000 hours and Nanoleaf is 25,000. I mean at the end of the day will take many years to reach it but just curious.
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 17 күн бұрын
I’m not sure how they calculate those lifespan numbers or if they can be believed. But they’re an average at best. You can have dead pixels at anytime and will need to repair them like I did here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXbXopmMl5qeorc. Having wire covers is a huge pro because they hide any repair splices.

Hi, I like your videos. I am redoing my lights this year. In the past I have used Walmart LED C9s mounted under my soffit. I am considering the permanent litghts similar to either the Nanoleaf or Govee. I would prefer a permanent installation since I am 73 years old. I know you went with the programable C9s but that looks like a lot of work. What is your final preference?

Back in 2018 I had a company come and make custom regular Christmas lights for the house and it's expensive because every year they've got to put them up and take them down and then they store them That's the only way they do it and they charge us $250 each time Now I'm trying to get my father to yes I live at home well he's old and he's alone so that's why I'm there anyway I'm trying to get him to switch to save money they're permanent it'd be nice to use them year round there's so many pluses the only minus is he doesn't like the fact that they shine downward he's so used to the old tried and true c9 bulb you can't seem to grasp this new technology anyway thank you so much for showcasing this does it include every part that you showed on the video all those parts and pieces

Look into bullet or puck style lights. Bullet would be like DrZzz Permatrack or Oelo ________ I have “puck” style lights (search “30mm RGBW UCS2904”), they don’t give the triangle sconce effect. I did DIY, but there are companies like Gemstone, Jellyfish, etc. that have dealer/installer networks. Or, a hybrid route BrightHomeLights in America (there are others too) and they also have partnered installers, the end result is pretty much the same but usually cheaper than Gemstone.

How many strings can you put together without voltage drop? Also, is there a max distance from the side of the house these can be placed? I don’t have soffits, I have rafters which make it difficult because I would have to roll the rafter or come out about 12 inches from the house. Thank you in advance.
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 16 күн бұрын
The controller supports up to 45 meters/150 feet max. If you need more, you need a second controller. The distance from the house is subjective. It’s also your choice how to mount them with open rafters tails. You can get ideas on Reddit /r/govee because these are functionally the same.

So I have an outlet up towards the top of my house can I have them going both ways around the house off of the one plug in if that makes sense or would I have to get two separate for one to go around the left of the house and one around the right? If that makes sense
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 11 күн бұрын
All of this style of permanent lights requires the controller to be at the start of the string. It’s your call if you want to use two sets or use an extension cord to move the controller to the end of the house.

But there are MILLIONS of people that ARE NOT tinkerers and WLED is too complicated for them. Let alone power injection! Those people are the target market for permanent light kits. And I’ll keep making review videos of those products because the videos do really well. As we speak, I’m installing a DigOcta system in my house. Video coming soon.

Definitely not trying to come across as being rude, but what if everyone who wants them in a different color than white, buy a can or 2 of spray paint and paint them to match the color of wherever you're going to mount them? True, other color availability would just be better, but if they don't offer it and you really want them, spray them. 😊

Easy enough to line all the cable covers on a sheet and spray all of them in a few sweeps. But I wouldn't bother with each individual light. You're not putting these at eye level within close proximity to people. You're putting these under soffets and window trim at least seven or eight feet off the ground.

Hmm..... those wire covers are a tremendous idea... and the cost couldn't be that much.... I was ready to pull the trigger on the GoVee Pro 200.... which is more than I have to have, but 150 is cutting it close for what I'd like to do.... decisions....the other drawback is the individual on off light control from Nanoleaf at the moment... that should be a fairly simple app upgrade, but you never know how long something like that might take and most of the year I'd be using these as accent/safety lighting around the house and I'd prefer maybe 15 percent of them on at that time... or just in certain spots.

These things are all 50w generally. I leave my Dreamcolour Govee strip on the lowest setting because I find them too bright, and having them not running on max all the time extends their life. They get dimmer over time on max, say over two years. My outdoor smart lights have a routine with the aid of an Echo Flex with Sensor to ramp up to 100% when detecting motion, and back down to 10% generally for that classy glow. Just enough to see bears, or Sasquatch looking in the window.

Excellent video, I am very interested in these lights however I see that they are only at the “preorder” stage at present. Fingers are crossed that the target mid October shipping is achieved. Our son in law just mounted the Govee system. His work-around to cover the wires was to have a chum who is a “tin banger” by trade make 8 foot long white sheet metal covers that required 1 inch holes be drilled at each of the lights. The final install looks very professional however it requires a lot of extra work and very expensive if you purchased these custom made at a sheet metal shop. Thanks for sharing 👍
