1:27 that is not the way to do wallpaper, you lift the socket away from the wall so the paper goes under the edge, the paper will start lifting around the edge of the sockets pretty quick if done the way it is here.

Some said it in other comments, there are code violations in some these "tricks". Examples include messing with the volume of an electrical outlet box, tinning electrical connections, and not properly fitting PVC piping (this is dependent on what the pipe is for, e.g. fresh water, waste water, or air). The purpose of the any code is to prevent fire and health issues over the life span of the building.

Pretty sure soldering splices in a wiring box (4:08), at least in the US, is a pretty bad code violation. Use wire nuts or Wago style connectors for this.
@TwistedPersona
@TwistedPersona 3 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Boyette @Anthony Boyette keep in mind this is coming from a non-electrician, but I would think the solder artificially increases the diameter of the cluster. I could see the wires becoming loose in the wire nut if the solder were to melt. Wago connectors are intended for a single lead per terminal, so that would flat not work. I believe NEC specifies that any hardware must be used per manufacturer's specification, but I can't remember where it said that. Beyond all of that, a soldered connection would make it a bit harder to replace a bad switch or outlet down the road.

@@MF-hd1tq I've seen people just attach a wheel to the door, therefore the axle is parallel with the door and not a radius coming off the hinge. The wheel then skids. I wasn't trying to be funny, I've fixed a number of doors, some huge ones with 8" wheels on them. Putting a wedge behind the wheel mount makes a great deal of difference.

The "trick" at 3:08 absolutely will not work. If you have ever built a deck and bothered to measure the joists you will find that they all vary in height by quite a bit. Nail in the joists, flush on top, then come back and add your joist hangers.
@udavidism
@udavidism 3 жыл бұрын
@@sirmixalot3332 Yes, you are not supposed to put screws in joist hangers but that was not my point. You cannot install joist hangers in advance because every joist is a different height, some will be too low and others will stick up too high.

Udavidism I was not ‘correcting’ you. I wasnt directing my comment towards you but to those who may not know any better. I was simply emphasizing to use appropriate nails rather than screws. Your comment was accurate but the importance of using proper nails will be missed by the less experienced. Having a flat surface without a lot of height variance is important but building something that wont catastrophicly fail is more important imo. Isaiah- screws have little shear strength compared to proper sized nails. Screws are hard, so the heads do not strip, but also brittle. Nails are malleable being of a softer material and will not fail the shear forces inherently present in joist hangers. A lot of collective weight is being supported by those hangers only factoring the weight of the building itself (dead load). Once there are people and weather added to that (snow, ice, etc., aka ‘live load’) the demand or weight expressed on those hangers has risen exponentially. Decks and roofs can fail for many different reasons this being one of those reasons. Not just any nail or hanger will suffice. First of all those nails ought to be galvanized to prevent deterioration and of adequate size. Don’t go using 6d nails for example. 8d-10d tiko nails to joist and rim board with 16d toenails thru common joist into rim joist/rim board/beam is often typical. The nail holes/placement is already established on the hanger. The hangers should also be of adequate size in relation to joist height. Easy enough to verify through Simpson. When 15 people are hanging out on that deck for a bbq those screws will likely fail. Just my 2¢
@udavidism
@udavidism 3 жыл бұрын
@@ToMato872 All joist hangers and any metal hardware designed to reinforce joints or connections must be nailed in every hole by joist hanger nails made specifically for that job. Joist hanger nails are required by building codes and inspectors will look for them.

Wood glue and a bit of saw dust is a more solid fix than a paperclip. Dust bowl is kind of useless, as you can't see the hole you're drilling. Don't drill blind. Just vacuum your work space. It's not hard. Taping up the cable rolls works great at the start, but halfway through the roll it's gonna collapse anyway. Just get a reel for your cable. Or make one. Not hard. Got nothing for the bung thing. That's the only method I know of for that. The tape measure thing... You know that the metal piece at the end of a tape measure hooks onto nails and what-not, right? You don't need two hands for a tape measure. When you are doing wallpaper, take the damned sockets off. Then you can cut through the wallpaper into the socket holes. Wallpaper needs to go under sockets and wall panels, or it will curl up. Don't do this. Drilling a hole through a paint brush handle weakens it. If you're fine with that, go for it. Or, you can just lay the paint brush down on the paint can lid. Just buy a 50 cent piece of connecting pipe. It costs about the same as this hack job. A chalk line is easier than chalk in a shovel. Just saying. Yes, you can tape up your paint can. But, why bother? Yes, this is the proper way to set joists. That's why joist connectors are made that way. It's not really a hack. I don't even know where to start with the screw in a pipe thing. If you have the tools to safely cut a bolt up like that, then you have the tools to do this job right. First, go shut the water off further up the plumbing. There should be a shut-off valve at the source. If you need a handyman tips and tricks video, then you should never be in a situation where you can't shut off the source water valve. Like, it won't happen, not that you shouldn't learn. Absolutely learn more plumbing. Not from this video. From somewhere else. Be very careful with cups full of molten tin. Also, don't do this. Heat shrink non-conductive tape is a lot easier to handle and easier to get hold of than a cup full of molten tin. Just get a new outlet box. It's less than a dollar. And will take less time and effort than trying to jerry-rig up some tubing to screw into. Also will be more stable. That's not a hack, that's how you're supposed to install vinyl. This also isn't a hack, that's how you make that bend. Contact paper is quicker and doesn't use up half a roll of your tape for each board. Just use a pen. No need to screw up your speed square. Get a pen. Not sure what the point of the makeshift tool was. You don't need to mold the rubber if you're going to use a hose clamp. Also, just shut off the water, use the replacement hose piece and a hose clamp. Stop cutting screws apart. Really, most of these plumbing "fixes" can be easily solved with "Step 1: Go shut off the water." If you have a drill, you have a drill bit that can do this easier, and without possibly screwing up the threads or the head of the screw you're using. That's just a breaker bar. It's not a hack. If you are taking off drain plugs, then you bloody well have a drain plug remover. If you don't have a drain plug remover, then what are you doing messing around taking drain plugs off? Also, go under the sink, take the retaining ring off, and pop the drain plug up from down there. Just use a pen. You don't need to go building a frame. Measure twice, cut once. This guy still got it wrong, as there are visible gaps. So, his method didn't work. That is a ratcheting wrench. Stop wasting tape, and just use the wrench you have right there in your hands. The next two aren't hacks, those are both things you buy specifically for the jobs they are doing. You can get a gate wheel and trailer chucks at the local farm supply store. Do not do this to your vehicle. Spray foam is not made to hold up to road vibrations. Just grind it down and primer it up until you can get it to the body shop. Also, none of this works on plastic or fiberglass car bodies. Yes, this is exactly why they sell those plates. That's not a hack. Very few of these tips or hacks are tips or hacks at all. Most are shoddy workmanship, and almost all of them are worse replacements for just having the right tool for the job. Here's a real tip. If you need to fix something, look up the proper way to go about doing it from at least two sources. Use the right tools. If it's something that seems like the right tools would be out of your price range, then hire a professional that already has those tools to fix it for you. If the tools are too expensive for you to consider buying just to have them around, then it's a job that's probably beyond a starter DIYer anyway.
