Finally got around to finishing mine. Maidened Oct 27, 2023. Flies great just like this one. Lands so easily. No flare, cushion with power.

I bought one because neither it nor the full scale have flying wires. So field setup is simple and just as mentioned completely done in under 10 minutes. Fairly large for 1/4 scale, great presence in the air. Fantastic. Bungee suspension and spring loaded tail skid is great as well.

Mine had a DLE 61 in it to start with and overheated right away. I changed out the fly screen for one with 1/4" gaps in it and that fixed that imediately. I eventually had enough of the exhaust exiting out the top and converted mine to a Motion RC Admiral 60cc equivalent 12s motor and it puts out a good deal more power on a 24x8 Falcon. Now it flies amazingly well with no fumes, no flameouts and no mess. Quite relaxing I must say.

Just got this as my 7th rc aircraft and second balsa arf. I'm loving it and flying it with no type of safe or assistance rx right now but planning on installing and flight stabilizer and programmer to get better for stable scale looking flights and a recover button or panic button just in case I do something db and don't lose this beautiful plane. My first arf balsa planes is the escapade great planes 68" sport plane with a .95 cu in 2 stroke motor on it and it's a blast to fly and I went from literally a few flite test planes and the older apprentice s15e I got 8 years ago and still fly it with no dents or scratches in it and my fms cessn v2 scale plabe now this. I do plan on putting a stabilizer on it but nervous about it with a gas balsa plane and programing it correctly I feel safer with this and my other balsa planes o mentioned by having full control of the plane on my own. I also have a bunch other planes that are smaller park flyers but this is my 7th bigger plane that is bigger then a park flyers type plane. I also got a few more arf balsa planes and two balsa laser cut dancing wings kits I gotta build started

Why would you add wing wires to a DVII? They didn’t have them.

Nice review, but I am curious why he said you could add flying wires to the wings? It wouldn’t be scale, or needed. I am considering a purchase of this plane.

Agreed- one of the D-7s big plus features back in the day was lack of flying wires!

What would be the best engine for this?

I am just now putting one together I bought from the LHS in June 2019. Now (Sept 2020) they are on sale for $599! Apparantly it is not popular. I feel bad about that. It is a fine ARF. Maybe some confusion about what engine to fit to it. I used a DLE 55 RA with DA 50 3 inch standoffs plus a 5/8 inch wood spacer. You can see pictures at the Jetero RC Club Facebook group. Your welcome.

It is a very nice plane. But this has to be the worst ARF I ever assembled; and I've put together many of them. The airframe parts fit and covering was excellent. The problem is with all the hardware points. A lot of the blind nuts must be tapped to remove the paint and/or glue that got in the threads. Instructions are not very clear in many of the steps. The cover on the stagger wing between the landing gear was badly warped, and 2 of the holes did not line up with the poorly installed blind nuts. a couple of the nuts were installed crooked; at an angle. The barrel on one of the guns was not glued on straight. I had to break it off and reset it so it wouldn't sit against the cowl. The other gun was perfect. Landing gear rods had burrs where the holes were drilled through them and they could not be installed until you re-drilled the holes, and filed off the burrs. Had to re-drill holes, because bolts would not fit. Finally got it all nicely put together. Still working on finishing the build. But very frustrated that you need to to do some extra work to get this assembled. Very sloppy workmanship on the hardware points.

No scalloped trailing edges? I had a small (wood arf) Fokker triplane from tower hobbies (back in the day) that cost 100$, and it had the proper scalloped trailing edges....on 3 wings! so we know it can be done fairly easily. Lazy! for shame hanger 9!
