Real nice build and love your calm voice and demeanor throughout. I am a fellow airplane model lover, though I have yet to build an RC, I loved U control planes when I was just a kid. I thought maybe I could help with your issue when the decals fogged up, where I work they use large decals and use soapy water not ammonia. You can apply most smaller decals without using water, but for large and very large stickers, this trick is a life-saver. After cleaning your surface area, wet the area again using a spray bottle and a solution of about 5% soap / 95% water. Apply the sticker while the area is still wet. You can adjust the decal straight while wet and it will dry overnight. No probs.

I was in the sport back in the 90's flying with the Jackson Flyers at Fort Jackson SC. I had some really good time and not so good times when the ground got too close to my plane. I still have one in my shop in the box I never put together that one day I might put it together just for snow. Today, the sport is so much bigger and a lot of electric motors. Still a fun sport if you have the time which it takes.

My dad was crew chief over 5 Grumman F6F's during WW2 on the Khalinin Bay CVE68 . If you haven't seen a Hellcat up close there is one at the free naval museum in Pensacola Florida which I highly recommend seeing. The plane has a 42' wingspan and weighs 9k lbs empty! I can't even imagine trying to land that plane on a deck 512' long and 65' wide with it tossing and turning!

I always go with Callie Graphics...her vinyls eliminate the "clear part" in most decals and when all said and done they look painted on. I own several Hangar 9 planes. Love them but I've never used the decals that came with them. I always like using her stuff just to make mine look different from stock. You have a great channel...nicely done sir! Oh...just FYI the antenna goes the other way...it should be straight up...parallel with the canopy vertical lines.

Nice review and I was on board right up to the ESC. No Grumman F6F Hellcat ever had an ESC! When these aircraft with their 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine where screaming through the skies battling Mitsubishi A6M Zeros blasting their six 50 cal M2/AN Browning air-cooled machine guns, no one ever said to themselves: 'Hey that sounds just like a vacuum cleaner." I have been in this hobby for quite some time and although I appreciate the developing electric technology, putting an ESC into a Hellcat is nothing short of scale sacrilege.

Adding lead weights to the nose brought back a memory for me. My first plane (don't remember what it was, bought it from a friend) I couldn't find anyone to help me fly it so I decided I could do it by myself. Crashed it on take-off and mangled a wing. I bought wood & shrink wrap and rebuilt it. However, I way overbuilt it and it was so overbalanced I had to add a number of large slip sinker fishing weight into the wing tip. It worked & flew but I didn't pass that info along to anyone. lol
@richardlong36154 жыл бұрын
Great video and great looking plane can't wait till the maiden. I like Hangar 9 planes they are a little more expensive but well made I have a Christen Eagle with an OS 1.2 four stroke. To nit pick you put the metal ferrules in the rubber grommets in the servos upside down. The collar should be against the wood and the other end against the underside of the mounting screw that way it will go tight when you mount it without deforming the rubber gromit too much and allowing a little movement of the servo.

*Do not use Window cleaner,* but don't put them on dry either. Most Windex type products use acetic acid (like vinegar) as a wetting and anti-foaming agent. This works great on windows, but can attack and alter the chemical structure of the adhesive. I mean Windex even advertises that it can break up and clean certain gum based adhesives. The altered adhesive will eventually become brittle and crack causing the decal to begin peeling up. One of the things I used to do on the assembly line of a south-east coast fishing boat manufacturer was to put on the 5 foot to 15 foot decals (depending on the model boat). I always used a diluted solution of Dawn dish washing liquid. You have to play with the mixture of water to soap to get a good decal slip without getting too much decal slide. The chemical makeup of Dawn (or similar brands) without added scents will not alter the adhesive causing the fogging of clear areas. The only thing to be careful of is the Dawn mixture wants to foam up if you spray it too vigorously, giving you twice the bubbles you're trying to squeeze out. Spray it in as fine a mist as your spray bottle can and from a one to two foot distance. This produces an even wetting without bubbles.

Your videos are great, so happy I found your channel!
@dennisbrooks2404 жыл бұрын
Use a couple drops of dish detergent in a half cup of water to slide on the decals. It is not aggressive toward the decal glue like vinegar in window washer fluid and allow more adhesion.. This works for water slide and self adhesive decals.
