Hi Stejpan, Started reading a chess, and one of the first quotes instantly made me think of you and how accurate I find this quote to be: "It's generally - but erroneously - assumed that the best teachers are the best players, and that the best players can easily communicate the secrets of the game. Actually, the best teachers are often just interested amateurs." - GM Andrew Soltis

I feel you experience a new move and got anxious and tried to play overly cautiously. Now simply looking back you see both Bd2 and Rb1 accomplish nothing for your position. And if you really weren't sure what to play Re1 probably would've been better. I was watching Magnus Carlsen do stream with the Botez sisters trying to beat Magnus age 10 on the app and inbetween all the jokes and banter he gave a really good tip. He said if you have the choice between a couple of good moves, play the move that you feel you are most likely to play eventually or needs to be played the most in the position. Looking at the position I obviously want to develop the Rook on a1 but I have no clue where it would best be placed and actually play a good role in the position. It would be a mistake to capture the Knight on c3 because it is not worth the Bishop on g7, yes it will weaken your pawn structure but it doesn't seem like it give him any advantage plus he lost the bishop pair for an all mighty menacing Knight on c3 doing virtually nothing. Maybe I'm wrong but that b2 pawn isn't worth defending for the cost of neglecting your more important pieces for a move and my guess is engines along with many Grandmasters would agree.

23:38, c4 doesn't that just exacerbate the backward d3 pawn you mentioned earlier? Why can't black just put pressure on it right away? Something like Rfd8 for example? Defending with Nc1 feels completely wrong but what else can white try here? If d3 drops looks like black is just going to invade with the pieces. Is there some counter-attack or tactical resource I'm missing?

Hello Stjepan... good luck in your quest. It is great you are including all us amateurs in your journey and sharing great chess information. I am new to the game and would greatly appreciate if you could recommend a chess program / software that I could use to learn openings, follow lines without having to set up pieces on board. A suggestion... it would be great if you could create a video for all players like me on how to use a computer chess program/ software to improve ... with recommendations. Again great videos

Very interesting and IMPORTANT topic. Thanks a lot for it I also sometimes "see ghosts" which not exist :). But there is one moment when I am not sure...it is your c4 move because after c4 Rfd8 there is double pressure and only move is Nc1...thats why Bg5 is better as well because you have Rf3. May I am missing something, please anybody let me know.

That's what I was thinking too. Rcd8 forces Nc1 to save the pawn and then white no longer has any good way of getting the knight to d5. After Nc1, blacks position looks far superior to white's
@julek94
@julek94 4 жыл бұрын
@@arivedal if you play Rc-d8 then Bxc5, if you play Rfd8 then Bg5 and you can't take the pawn because the knight is hanging. If f6 then you take because the f8 rook is on d8 now and you lose the d3 pawn but you win the f6 pawn.

Hey man, what about your Road to GM? I had a look at the stats and saw that you are currently a 1910 ELO player... And in Lichess you score a 2085 rating in Blitz, which is by far your most played format with 6700 matches played, with a progression of 19 points in 2 years from may 2018 (2085 vs 2066). Honestly, do you still think you can become a chess Grandmaster? Serious question.
@kondukter100
@kondukter100 4 жыл бұрын
Or course he can! He has been playing rated tournaments for only four years and achieved something great! You don´t become GM over the night, he is aware of that and on a great way. His rating on Lichess 2085 is in Blitz and he played much more games (in real tournaments) with normal time control, and on Lichess he has 2127 score with classical time control. But this aside (because I don´t find internet rating completely trustworthy), two other things. First, I think he still needs a bit time (but it will come!) to feel really comfortable in blitz and rapid games (just my opinion) which he will be facing in real tournaments. And second, you take rating on internet as a serious reference on how much progress someone makes? He is investing so much time and hard work and it will pay of eventually. It would also be interesting to know your background. Do you also play tournaments and where were/are you four years after you first tournament game?
@gasparesubissoni2734

@@kondukter100 lol so he has minions answering. Funny. My background is totally irrelevant, i have never stated i would become a chess gm. Seriously, do you think that a 30 years old guy with an official elo rating of 1910 can become a chess gm? This is way beyond ridiculous, you guys are obviously in love ;-) He publishes good theory videos, but please stop embarassing yourself with this gm nonsense.
@minimega879
@minimega879 4 жыл бұрын
@@kondukter100 i wouldn't call achieving 1900 elo something great honestly. It is the rating of a medium/low amateur club player.
@keplerov3197
@keplerov3197 4 жыл бұрын
@@minimega879 1900 is a decent elo for an amateur who treats the game as an hobby. Certainly non a great achievement in competitive terms, especially if reached after 4 years of dedicated play. Not a single chance of becoming a gm with this performance. Ask any chess trainer. After 30/35 years of age proficiency in chess actually declines (worse memory, calculation speed, etc.)
@minimega879
@minimega879 4 жыл бұрын
@@keplerov3197 yes, i would say this guy's limit is probably around 2050/2100 (being optimistic) with intense training and good luck in tournament pairings (opponent bad days, etc.) No way he can become a gm, not even fm. Good content and interesting theory videos though.

Hello Stephen and fellow chess players , I have a question for you all .. I am a 1900 around player in lichess rapid ( 10-15 minutes rapid games ) and am trying to improve my game . I am an attacking player but I swindle a lot ( and hilariously sometimes although I don't intend to but giving up points feels bad , check out my profile "Subhrajyotibhat " if you don't believe me ) now I am feeling really sad and having a lot of self doubts as I feel I don't deserve the rating ( although I worked a lot for it ) what do you guys think about swindlers ???? Also I have been mocked by people in college tournaments ( intercollege and stuff ) for being a swindler as I have defeated fide rating 1600-1700 players in college tournaments from very loosing positions ( that also makes me kinda sad ) ...... I am trying to improve by reading books and practicing tactics and your videos have been helpful but how to become a good player rather then a swindler ??? Should I forfite games after blundering ??
