Very useful video, thank you. Maybe try to cover some more possible lines, for instance at 22:14 giving a broad overview of the lines after Bxg5 Nxg5 Rxh6 would be helpful. A couple of other positions in the video same thing. All in all I really appreciate the higher level commentary though.

I really don't even understand the point of most outposts. I mean sure, sometimes, you can get to a square that you cannot be challenged, but most of the time they can kick you out of the square. I really don't understand why it's such a big deal to get to a square that in most cases they can fight for. Getting to a square where they have no chance of removing you is a very rare occurrence, and yet we are still told to fight for them. Could you explain this?
@williamsmith95104 жыл бұрын
The most powerful peice on an outpost is typically a knight of course. In certain openings such as the Sveshnikov Sicilian, the stonewall dutch, ect there are holes in your enemies position which make good places to put your peices, and a knight exerts the most pressure typically from these squares. The idea would be say you're stonewall dutch opponent has traded their knights and dark square bishop. Leaving them with their lightsquare bishop which is notoriously bad against say a knight on e5, which would be nearly strategically winning for white. The pressure exerted by the knight bundles blacks position and holds them hostage in a web of their own design. When you look for outposts keep in mind what peice should be there and look for a way to get it there as they exert threats and pressure, and when peices are traded if you have a bad bishop for a good knight, you'll usually have a good position if material is even. Not to mention if there is a hole near the king the hole can be a great lane for peices to enter the enemy encampment. I hope this helps and I am sure there is more I am missing, wonderful comment and I'm glad I can help.
@madhavsanap66904 жыл бұрын
Same here. Even if knight gets an outpost then the opponent sacrifices the bishop and get rid of the threat. So much manoeuvring is wasted in one move.
@williamsmith95104 жыл бұрын
@@madhavsanap6690 if the bishop that would be on the same color is already gone they cannot get rid of the knight. It's about planning for what peices you want on and off the board and the pawn structure you are both playing with
@vladsirin4 жыл бұрын
Creating outpost positions rechannels your opponent's focus as to demand a reply to the outpost move. If the opponent does not respond and your move was well wrought, you have the game. If the oppenent responds and your move was well wrought, you have won tempo in the middlegame and developed other pieces. However, an outpost move isn't a move in a vaccuum of singular pieces. Secondary and tertiary lines of attack through supporting tactics of an executed strategy in the opening are always layers of attack available to you when making these middlegame sacrifices. Just my opinion...or????

Sometimes I think GMs do not calculate too far. Just 1 or 2 moves ahead. Also GM games are kind of mechanical with all known openings up to first 40 moves for a 30 move game.
