Hangkai Outboard Motor Service & Upgrade

Preparing my little Hangkai 4hp 4-stroke outboard motor for boat season! Installed new NGK spark plug, new aluminium propeller and a DIY exhaust muffler/pipe that make the motor more quiet.

Good call on the spark plug. I got the one with the jet drive because I was unimpressed with the plastic prop. Now I kinda wish I would have went the other way. Mine doesn't seem to be too noisy so will run it as is a couple times but might Replace stock muffler with a 3/4" npt muffler.

I use beeswax on the prop shaft . It never comes off and makes prop come off easy.

Yes, NGK is a much better spark pug. Also, the aluminum propeller has a more efficient design. I think you should put a turbo kit on it 😁. Be safe bro.

Very informative! How about the oil level. Manual recommended “Engine oil Upper limit” which is almost all the way up to the engine oil inlet. the oil cover stick you will find the circle mark.

Good upgrades, how is it working tho when you trynna put reverse? I mean the exhaust should be same level as your face..

Thanks, good point. But putting it in reverse is something I can do standing, I think it will be ok.

Hello My son just bought a use Bass Tender 9.4 and this motor the Hangka 4.0HP 4T came with it . I just got it started after a Doz. pulls , it looks like it hasn't been use for a while so I want to drain all fluids and give it a good cleaning and tune up . We never had a outboard motor before but this looks just bigger than my weed wacker . Where can I find Parts ??

The best way would be to google it, Amazon and eBay probably has some parts. This motor is a Honda GXV50 clone so many parts should fit from that motor too.

I really like your suggestions for this motor. The prop and muffler was a concern of mine as well. Would you suggest this motor or a larger one for a 14ft Coleman Scanoe ? Liked and subscribed!

My boat weighs 95 kg, the 14ft Coleman S canoe is only 42.6 kg so this motor would be just fine. Thank you 👍

@@GurrasGarage Thanks man! I was hoping for that. I have a fairly lazy river about 60 ft behind my back fence. By Google It's 164 miles long from head to tail. It's only accessible by a few areas along it. Due to our steep mountain area with deep valleys It's almost never fished. Long slow slack water with deep shaded pools and some riffles in-between. @@JFCrow You might need to check how much the 6 hp weigh, the 4 hp weigh about 10 kg, I dont think your canoe is made for a bigger motor.

Cheers. Drain plug is located under the gas tank in the engine block, you use an allen key.

@@GurrasGarage I like this little engine, i bought it after i watched your videos. I just have one issue, to get the propeller spinning i need to rev the engine little high, is this the same for you ? Can anything be done to make the clutch engage earlier ?

@@stefanflorin288 Mine does the same, only solution I can think of is to raise the rpm idle a bit, but it doesnt bother me so I leave it as it is.

Hi Gurra. I have this motor. But I have big problem to start it. I bought second carburator because silicon button cracked and started leaking. New carburator did not eliminated problem. Can I replace existing carburator to Honda GXV50? I have a look picture and design looks different.

Hi, I have a 3.5 hp that ran for about 2 hours. The prop stopped turning. I have checked the clutch and all is good but I am for the life of me unable to remove alu. prop. have you any hints or tips?

If it doesn't come off they way I did in the video, I dont really know. Its probably the prop shear pin that is broken.

Will this engage the prop at a low enough rpm to keep a 16ft boat under 2mph for trolling

My boat is 4meter and it worked fine, bigger boats should be ok too for trolling but it will be slower in top speed. The biggest issue is that its pretty noisy even at low speed, thats why I made this exhaust pipe.

How about running exhaust pipe into water? That would make it less noisy. Most outboards have it that way

Won't work its a 50cc 2hp motor, if you put a long pipe into the water the motor will loose all power (i tested with a long hose) and what will happen to that pipe when you try to go reverse, you must turn the motor 180

Friend, I bought a Hangkai 6 HP motor, it has only 10 hours of use. Little cooling water always came out, but today testing the motor, suddenly the water that cools the motor stopped coming out. Could you help me?

Check if the the water inlets are clogged, no water is getting to the pump, so it isn't pumping. Finally, the impeller may be damaged, requiring its replacement.

Yes after 10 hours, there is an allen bolt under the gas tank.

Its not 4hp, this motor is a Honda clone and has around 2hp. But for the price its still a great value.

​@@toml6535 It´s a 4-stroke motor! you dont mix oil and gasoline in this motor. Use 91 or 95 octane gasoline and don't forget to fill up 240ml of 5W-30 motor oil.

No, I dont live close to the sea. But I suppose saltwater is not good for any motor. This motor is air-cooled so thats a plus, no water goes thru the motor.

Changing carburator only will not give you more hp. And its not 4hp to begin with, 2hp is what you get from this 52cc motor.
