Hello everybody! This video comes to you from the many requests I got since I purchased the Hangkai 12hp. I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time using this motor and figuring out the kinks and how to address them to make this motor last just as long as any other major brand. The main issues come from the factory, lubrication to be exact. The gear case does not come filled like my Tohatsu 6hp did, so you have to make sure the gear case if filled with gear oil before taking it to the water. This is one of the examples as to why these motors have such a bad reputation, that being said, with a little bit of attention and effort, this motor is a diamond on the rough and it can be easily turned into a well-polished diamond. I'll let the video explain the rest, and thank you all for watching.

I ordered one on Saturday, and it arrived today. Paid $849 + $60 for shipping on Amazon. Greased the prop shaft, filled the lower with gear oil, hooked up the fuel tank and it started on the 4th pull. Started pumping water within seconds. I can't wait to get it out on the water. So far I'm very happy with it.

I think I paid 1k at the time for mine, and I still am happy with it. So far it has performed flawlessly. It look like as long as you use the correct fuel/oil mixtures, grease up the joints and flush it after every use, this little outboard will last as long as any other outboard.

Very good video! You covered points that no one else has covered. I didn’t know that they were Tohatsu clones, makes me have a little more confidence in them. That being said, I have a 3.6 that I bought from someone basically new. He had gotten it started a few times on 50:1 oil ratio, plus didn’t put gear oil in the lower unit. I pull on the starter rope until I’m just about completely give out before it will start, then it will run 20-30 minutes then die & will not start. No one around here will work on one. Trying to decide if I want to take a chance on a new 18 HP.

Got a 6 hp a few months ago. Started break in on the water for 1 hr. Then continued break in garbage can. Ran for 1 hour everything ok. Next day ran for 15 minutes and it died. Waited a while then started it, ran for 15 minutes and it died again. Noticed there was no water from the tell tale. Tried blowing air through the intake and tell tale. The foil will help with cavitation of the prop. Way back when ; many moons ago. Outboards ran normally on 25:1 oil gas mix. Motors have improved over the years and EPA requirements demand 50:1 on 2 stroke engines. The Chinese are good at copying whatever. Why spend money to design, just copy; seems to be the China way of life. I have thought about getting one myself to use with my dads old aluminum jon boat for fishing on the lake. Boats and motors have gotten insane expensive nowadays. Running higher oil mix for break-in will definitely make differense with the life of the motor. 73 Earnest K5EWM 👍

It is already happening where bans of sale is being put up in alot of states and arround the world on 2 stroke to get them off the water as they can't make them illigal to run but what they can do is stop production of new ones but eventually you wont even be able to get 2 stoke oil I fear that that day will be sooner instead of late at this rate. My dad has an old 18hp jhonson 2 stoke built in the 60's that still runs great. With this agenda though alot of yard equipment will have to be updated as it is still on 2 stroke tech. The 2 stroke 5HP Tohatsu is 102CC. That’s the exact same displacement as the Hangkai 6HP (so I’m guessing it’s closer to 5). Just bought a Hangkai 6HP for my 12’ Jon. It’s a great looking little outboard. Can’t wait to get it lubed up & gassed up & start breaking it in. I’m a tinkerer so I’m trying to decide if I want a different prop &/or hydrofoil but I’ll decide on that after I break it in & run it a bit.

I'll say run it as it is, figure the kinks and see if you need the prop or hydrodoil. Hydrofoil always helps in my opinion

If the Hangkai 12 = 9.8hp and 6 = 4hp then 2hp motor = 0hp.

@@Zanderman2000 To summarize, in order for the Hangkai company to sell their outboard clones, they cannot market them exactly as their main brand counter parts. The 12hp is a Tohatsu 9.8hp clone, and the 18hp is a Yamaha 15hp clone.
