This just popped up in my recommendations. I'm a white 56 year old man from Shropshire England who primarily listens to the punky new wave stuff that I grew up with. I'm not usually into this kind of music but for goodness sake these guys can play, and they enjoy playing - you can see and feel it. Musicianship of the highest quality. I don't dance but you'd have to have rigor Mortis not to move to this. Bravo to every one of them and I wish them many more years of making people happy.

Never forgot when i first saw Brother Purdie in the subway. Didnt know who he was. We just vibed & when he told me who he was i was in shock. I told him how my father was a big fan of his. He went into his breifcase & gave me a invitation to his 60th yr bday party in held in planfield, n.j. it was one of the best moments of my life. All the greats were there jamming until early morning. I could feel my pops presence too... saying son, im proud of ya..... ! 😊😊😊😊😊 r.i.p. !

I would love to ask Archie Bell and his Huston, Texas Drells how he feels about this incredible line up of, dare I say, Bernard Perdie's Jazz Messenger "All Stars" playing his Top 40 Hit song that resonates even to this day (2023). It would seem to me that having this tremendous Jazz ensemble doing the "Tighten Up" in such a magnificent and expressive fashion. I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Bell would consider this performance as a true compliment!

All those drummer/singers and no one mentioned Levon Helm or Don Henley. Yikes. Or Karen Carpenter for that matter. And glad SupaSoul mentioned Peter Hoorelbeke (a.k.a. Peter Rivera) drummer and lead singer for Rare Earth. During my drumming career I sang a few songs, including "Sultans of Swing" which had a hell of a lot of words to remember. ha. I have to say that Purdie's groove and rock solid rhythm is just another level. Amazing. Drives the whole song, and all the while seeming perfectly relaxed, which is why it probably sounds so perfect.

Lou, Mr Shing-a-Ling, Donaldson! His was the first jazz album I bought circa 1967. Learned how to play "Peepin' " on my trombone, taught it to my boys. We jammed after band practice at M H High School in Michigan. Fifty years ago and the music sounds as good to me today as it did back then; inspiring us to learn, grow, and pass the music on to the next generations. Thanks to all of the players here who took the baton from someone else in the race of great, artistic, and diverse musical expression. As we have taken it from them, hopefully others coming up will take it from us. Music education in elementary schools is key to the perpetuation. Keep the relay going for as long as we are here! 👑🎸🎵
