I've listened to both 1/2 and 2/2 perhaps 30X the last several days. I can't get enough. If I "tighten up" anymore I may never walk normal again. One of the best live performances I've even seen. Mr. Bernard Purdie is the greatest! I kept expecting him to break his sticks. Love that hi-hat!

The pure joy of drumming is coming off Bernard Purdie in waves. That is just pure joy. Also from Pancho Morales. Chuck Rainey is one of my bass heroes. This is great.

Here is the thing; driving to pick up my date this song played on a selection I downloaded some time ago and I had not time to listen yet. Waiting down date's flat Walker's guitar solo kicked in. Date appeared in usual women cirquesque attire at first dates. She walked in and asked me to turn down the music because "that kind of music gives her headache." From that moment for a a couple of hours until few minutes ago I had no other thought in my cranial box than waiting for date to vanish and turn the fuckin' music on at very loud volume, which is what I am doing right now and I urge the feeling to share my happiness with the entire world thanks to these God's. That Pancho Morales interplay with Bernard Purdie though...

I learned about Bernard Purdie when I watched "The Making Of Aja," the Steely Dan album. Purdie was on some tracks and talked about his "Purdie Shuffle." What an absolute natural genius he is. So fluid and powerful yet constrained in the old school jazz style of not doing to much. A pleasure to watch him.

One of the greatest living drummers who has crossed all genres of music, kicks a lot of so called great drummers to the bloody curb, with good steady beats and gives everybody he plays SPACE, something too many drummers just dont know how to to, they think its all about them.

What an amazing performance! So much talent on one stage, at one time... Thank you for sharing this with us. Archie Bell would really love this, too, if he hasn't seen it already. On a side note, public schools should never, ever take music out of our schools. For many kids, school is the only place that they have an opportunity to learn how to play an instrument. Kids need to be exposed to REAL music, played by REAL musicians such as Bernard Purdie, Lou Donaldson and all the gentlemen on stage. So much emotion up there... The world would be a better place for so many kids if they were exposed to the arts more frequently and were able to grow up learning the value of something other than a standardized test. Visual arts and music is what kept me in school, and made me enjoy going to begin with. I thank you again for putting this out there so people can continue to appreciate the talent that these musicians have and so graciously shared with the world.

I was about 8 years old when I discovered it. I listened to another Purdie track, and it wasn't nearly as good. The difference wasn't Purdie, who was as excellent as ever - it was the other players, who weren't the kind of A-list guys on this session. Everybody on that whole stage has time as good as Bernard's, comes out of the same Sixties soul music thing, and has this kind of feel in their bones. Praise Bernard all you want, he's certainly earned it - but praise the whole band as well, every one of whom absolutely has the right to stand there beside him.
