Courtney...you are such a great mom to Hank. I can't thank you enough for posting these videos. I appreciate you taking the time to make these, in detail, so much! My pomeranian Rudi has Stage 2 and it gets bad on the stairs and when he gets groomed. So...I'm in limbo. But thank you so much. It is so good to see how great it did through these informative videos. He loves you so much. Take care. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for sharing all these videos. I have a Boston Terrier. She's super active like Hank. It hurts me to know she'll have to go through surgery in the near future to fix her legs. She has the condition on both knees. One is worse than the other. Your videos have truly prepared me for what's to come. I truly appreciate it. You are a great Mom to Hank. Thank you for sharing your story.

I’m so glad that I found your videos! Our 1.5 year old mid-sized Australian labradoodle was just diagnosed with medial patellar Luxation. His knee cap won’t stay in place at all any more, so it looks like surgery for our little guy. Meeting with a surgeon early next week. It’s good to get an insight into what the recovery is going to entail for both us and our puppy! Thanks again!

Thankyou So Much for documenting your journey of recovery for us!!! I hope Hank is still doing well. I found your videos while doing researchfor my own Petite Goldendoodles luxating knee. Rowan is 3 years old, and his left knee has been full luxated for about the last year..I was so surprised to find Hank, in almost the same situation! I have had 3 different Veterinarians look at him and have raised some money to get the surgery. Still so scary though! Those first 2 days looked so painful for Hank! Again, Thankyou for documenting Hanks journey, I'm sure he is feeling much better!!!

Hank is doing amazingly well. He's fully back to being and moving like any other dog. Surgery (or should I say recovery) sure was a toll, but commit to it and it will pay off immensely in 6 months to a year :)

Your videos are amazing. Our dog goes in tomorrow for the same surgery and I am thankful I found your videos. I am pretty nervous as our Jax is a very active Bichon Shih Tsu and I am very worried about the recovery. You have made me feel more confident about it all. Your Hank is very well behaved and a lovely dog. I hope I can do half as well as you. I will watch them many times as we go through this. Thank you so very much!

This is a very informative video, it took me a while to find a video/post that shows a progress after R MPL surgery. I have a Shiba Inu also 21lbs and this will be his 4th day post op. Mine has been using his leg since day 1 post op occasionally he will tuck it up and hop for like two steps. I have a hard time keeping him confine because he worries me by pacing back and forth in the hallway.And he has like a area about 1cm in length with a little clear/red fluids other wise the majority of the incision on the leg is dry.

@@sazzy152 It was very hard on me and painful for my companion. He was still in a lot of pain months later and was told by the tech he needed his other leg done. I told her that he hadn’t done well with the first surgery. So a month later I took him to another recommended vet, and they did x-rays and said his CCL’s were torn and causing pain on the leg. He was an experienced vet, with a good reputation, so I had him do the surgery. After the second surgery, the vet said the first surgeon was a butcher and did a terrible surgery and had a LOT of arthritis because of it! That was the reason he was in agonizing pain for days after the surgery. He said the torn CCL ‘s were what was causing the pain and not luxating patella. So a few months later, I had him put a band on the other leg. Big difference after those surgerys! He has learned how to adjust his walking and running. My suggestion would be to , who knows what they are doing !!!!!

Which surgery did you choose, band, plates or something else? Hank looks great! My girl is 21 mo's, 5 lbs and can no longer jump, climb the dog stairs for the couch and bed, I see her knee sliding outward, sometimes falls when running when the knee slides out. Yes, she does the bunny hop! Sincerely happy for Hank!

Hi Jennayxb. I'm glad my videos helped you. That is exactly why I committed to it. I wished I had some insight to what I was about to get myself (Hank) into prior to surgery :-) I made a spread sheet of exercises and would check off daily what exercises we did. I would add one to two new exercises each week. I would fit in exercises when and where I could. So sometimes it was 5 minute spurts multiple times a day. But I did something everyday. Some days we got a lot of the exercises in and other days it was more massage then exercise, but it still helped. I still do a few of the exercises today. Hank had his implants (pins & wire) removed last week, so he was out for a couple days but is doing great now! I wish you much luck with your pooch. I am happy to answer any questions as they come up for you. It's quite a process.

Jennayxb , I most likely will not have future video posts of Hank. He is pretty much back to being a normal dog. Yay! But I hope you had the chance to view all 11 videos, starting from Day 1 post-surgery to week 10 post surgery. It was full on for 10 weeks, but totally worth it, now that I have seen how far we have come. Hank is great! Surgery was a success with a few set backs which could have been prevented with a fail proof cone. He most likely got an infection early on inside his bone which did not allow the bone to adhere around his implants. So keep your pup's cone on at all times. It's hard, but it will keep him out of surgery in the future for pin removal. So Hank's video updates are done and I have to get back to my human Pilates videos online :-) Good Luck to you!

Thank you for posting these videos!!! They are so helpful! It's comforting to see that Hank is doing so well post-op. My little one will be getting the MPL surgery tomorrow bilaterally... :(((. She is also stage III like Hank (but on both legs), even though she doesn't express pain or discomfort, I feel it is best to do it ASAP. She is 6 year old now, but still has many great years ahead of her and I want to make sure she gets the best quality of life. thank you for sharing Hank's journey. I hope you continue to keep us updated. How often do you do the physical therapy at home with Hank?

@@isabelledaoust2592 Hi! Post-op went well. Keep an eye on the cone, make sure she doesn't get to it. My dog managed to take some of her stitches out but lucky her wound was pretty much healed when she did it so no damage/infection was caused. The exercises Courtney showed in her videos were helpful. And I believe it helped her recover faster. She's 14 years old now and her legs are treating her well. She can't do tall stairs (but they shouldn't do too many stairs or jumping, as it adds stress to the joints) or long walks since she's a senior dog now. I have her on joint supplements and make sure she maintains a healthy weight since the surgery. It was a hard decision for me at the time but I am glad I did it. Good luck!

hi, quick question, did hank end up getting the implants removed? our little guy had the same surgery almost 12 weeks ago and he’s still having problems. The doc said that if his leg is going to continue to get irritated due to the implant, they would need to remove it. We are a little worried about removing the implants, concerned that it may affect his bone healing.

Thank you for your videos. My dog, chihuahua/terrier mix will be having this surgery in 2 weeks. Looking back, anything you would do differently or any must do's. I'm a little nervous because he is not good with pain and very skiddish. Also, how did you make the headband/scarf sling?
@courtneyklocke1744
@courtneyklocke1744 8 жыл бұрын
+Patty Hart -- 1.) Take 3 days off of work following surgery. 2.) Keep the cone on at all times. 3.) Don't let the pain medication wear off. Manage the pain from the start. 4.) Find a reputable canine rehab facility. It's worth every penny! 5.) Commit to home therapy everyday, multiple times a day, just 10 minutes a time. This too shall pass. But the more you do upfront, the less you'll have to do later. It's amazing how in just a few hard working months, your pup will be back to normal. I posted 10 videos in a row of great example rehab exercises day to day, week to week. I'm not a professional by any means, but they paid off in the end for Hank. Hank's walking/running gate is better than before surgery. He is happy healthy and full of energy. Your pup will be too. To answer your question about the sling... I used a soft felt scarf and a winter felt headband. I put his hind legs thru each end of the headband (wrapped the headband around the back side of his hips) and threaded the scarf thru the headband. Hope that makes sense. Sometimes KZbin shuffles my videos with other videos and they are not in order. If you need help finding all of them let me know. Good luck. Courtney

@@Sylvie672 he's doing really good with the leg that got the surgery, unfortunately the other leg was worse and initially that one was going to get the surgery first, but due to the injury on his "good" leg, we did that 1 first. But apart from that, glad we did it! He couldn't walk before, now he can, even runs. Really hard the first few weeks as they don't know what the heck happened to them and why they are in pain =( I how a specialist is dying the surgery? Also, please take off from work at least a week. That way you can be home if anything happens specially for pain medication. Also, buy some pumpkin made for dogs so he /she doesn't get constipated

Hi Brigette. Thanks for the note. To be honest, that surgery is so behind me that I do not recall the exact amount. I want to guess somewhere between $1000 - $1500. Although I did receive quotes much lower but I felt so confident with our Orthopedist that I knew in the long run this would pay off. We do have pet insurance which paid for 80% of everything, including his weekly rehab (I think we did 20 sessions of rehab) plus our home rehab as you see in my videos. Hank is doing fabulous and is better than ever! It was a difficult 6 months but stick with the rehab and it will pay off huge for the rest of your pup's life!

In Australia the operation costs anything between $1000-1500 depending on what is needed to be done, it's such a hard decision as my pooch runs and jumps like a maniac people can't believe how high she jumps! to give you an idea they say to me she must have boxing kangaroo DNA..both her legs are effected I spoke with several vets and they all say post operative the recovery period is very important on a successful outcome after such evasive surgery one vet went on say she can be sedated at that time, she isn't in pain except for a few hops here and there they are very intermittent currently I am giving her supplements and I take her in weekly for injections to build up bone under the patella doing this will ensure the bone will provide additional support on her hind legs. It is such a dilemma is there anyone out there with a very active pooch who is hesitant or is anyone out there whose pooch has had the operation whose pooch is also extremely active and what has been their experience, thank you!
