This song, I believe is talking about how much Country Music has changed over the years. George Jones song "who"s going to fill their shoes" talks about this point. There are very few country music artist today that play like or similar to the country music that Hank Williams Jr. is use to making. The nice smooth, tell a story, kind of music.
@edford1693

Yes it could be about how much Country has changed over the years with a few word changes. However it was released in 1980 on the "Habits, Old And New" album and was referring to Disco music.

@@jbrown1971 Evidently you have not listened closely to the song or looked at the lyrics - Hey man them ain't high heel sneakers And they sure don't look like cowboy boots And that ain't rock and roll you're playin' And it sure ain't country or rhythm and blues You're singin' a song about making love to your drummer Well gay guitar pickers don't turn me on And we don't all get into Donna Summer Do you happen to know any old Hank Williams songs 'Cause you see I'm a dinosaur I should have died out a long time before Have pity on a dinosaur Hand me my hat, excuse me man, but where's the door It used to be, I had a lot of fun in this old hang-out We'd get stoned at the jukebox and stay out of fights Now and then, we'd light a little smoke in the truck out back (Aww) Then a little old Jim Beam and we'd get right And you know these flashin' lights sure make me dizzy And this disco's very strange to my ears It looks like they've turned the Longhorn into a spaceship And I'll be leavin' just as soon as I finish this beer 'Cause you see I'm a dinosaur Should have died out a long time before There's a whole lot of dinosaurs So give us our hats, excuse me man, but where's the door Get us our hats, excuse me man, but where's the door where does it say anything about going into a gay bar?

As a huge HANK fan, so glad to see you do this less popular song. I have always loved this song...it really does describe how alot of us fans of "older country music" feel today. The new stuff is more pop than country. Nothing wrong with pop music, I like that too, but I don't want pop music when I'm in a slow groove country kind of mood. It's about getting older and not being ok with the new changes, how we wish things would stay the way they were. And there are alot of us that feel like dinosaurs. Great reaction! I grew up listening to Hank Jr. in the 80's. He's great. He said people used to spit on him because he didn't sound/look like his father when he started 60's. Thank God for Hank!

Love this!!!!! Thank you. Not a lot of play on the radio but love it. I'm a dinosaur myself. The oldies on the radio aren't old enough and the country isn't country enough 😏

The song is about turning his trusty old juke joint into a disco tech. At the time this came out disco was still big and so many people were hating it and speaking out about it.

This is how the country should be. Not everything is for everybody....if you don't like it no one is forcing you to stay around. The fact of life is things change, sucks for some of us set in our ways but those are the facts of life. I had a great grandfather who was still riding a horse and buggy in the 1950's. The man said he never had use for a car and by god he never got one.

@@normancasey4217 from my dads telling of him he was a mean old Bastard and he was stuck in his ways. Never met him but met his wife and she was a good woman who loved life. She went from the horse and buggy to the space station and Loved every minute of it. Two completely different people but that was what made them great together and it is what makes US as America great.

This came out in 80 so this is a badass in boots, jeans, hat, and shades bitching because his kinda bars (think urban cowboy being 5 years before) are all turning into disco in 80. He's lost his hangout and realizing times changed around him and he stayed being Hank Jr. 🤠

When he say's Do you happen to know any old Hank Williams song? He means songs that his Daddy, Hank Williams Sr. sang. His Daddy got kicked out of the Grand Ole Opry for mentioning beer in one of his songs. (I think it was the song "My Bucket's Got a Hole In It") When he got back in, he changed the lyrics for his opry performances so that whenever the word "beer" came up he shouted out "MILK!". Don't know what the Opry management thought about it, but the audience loved it!
