Thanks Jason for this request . The song was written by Hank Jr & Jimmy Bowen and released in 1984 on his Major Moves album. Good song paaying tribute to Abe. Thanks for the reaction

One of those obscure songs that should have been released on the radio

Thank you Jason for an outstanding request. A new one to me and it really resonated with me. Although it's from the 80s, as Don said it could have been written today. Don mentioned common sense, but that doesn't seem very common these days. We are suffering from increased crime here in Canada, caused in part from the current government's relaxation of jail time and making it easier to post bail. The opposition leader refers to this as the "catch and release" strategy. We'll see if anything changes, but I'm not very optimistic at this time. Thanks Don for the super reaction!

It came out in 1984. It could have came out in 2024. I can’t believe that album is 40 years old.Time has flown by. Hank wrote the song.

I didn’t hear this until around the late 90s when I came across it on Napster. I liked the message then and still today.

This is probably my favorite rarity from Hank Junior, that very seldom got played on country music. And you are right Don, still speaks truth even today!

Bocephus writes almost all of his songs, including this song, it was originally released in 1984 but then released on the album America, the way I see it. in 1990 peaked at number 11. it has some awesome songs you should react to including I've Got Rights, Don't Give Us a Reason, and The American Way to name a few

I remember when this was released! I had this cassette. My best friend and I saw Hank Jr every year he came to town in the mid-late 80’s. The last concert I went to of his, he was so drunk that he couldn’t even sing and he cut the concert short. The main country radio station banned his songs and wouldn’t play them anymore.

Lincoln was a backwoods lawyer.....

Yes he was backwoods lawyer in Louisville Kentucky. Lincoln never forgot where he came from. A small town called Hodgenville KY and remembered his mom. Taking him to Etown and having to eat with slave children in Hardinsburg KY.

I always think that Hank was talking to Lincoln about abolishing slavery, and what a mistake he made.
