My mother use yo do this back in the 80s and 90s. She thought the “make your own lemonade” hack displayed savviness and cleverness. She was completely unaware that to others it seemed miserly and rude. She also tended to make my brother and I share a meal (despite us being big enough and hungry enough for our own) , and she tipped extremely little. This is all despite the fact that she was a waitress herself for a long time. At times working two waitressing jobs at a time to support us. It’s as if once she got a better paying job, she forgot all the headaches of being a server. She would leave an Avon catalog or a card for Pampered Chef with her measly tip. As if that would help them earn money, when she was making far more than them at her job and still was being a cheapskate.

Hi, I'm the one who submitted the nursing mom Optavia story! I'm stoked you actually read it and I've loved reading all the comments related to it. I wanted to give an update to say that Christy is ABSOLUTELY targeting postpartum nursing moms to try Optavia. She just made a post today, which I will abbreviate and edit for length and privacy... "Becky hopped on one of my plans for nursing mamas when her baby was just 2.5 months old. She lost 55 pounds, had no issue with her milk supply, and is celebrating increased energy." Yet again, the Optavia 5-in-1 disclaimer is present on the before and after photos. It sickens me that it wasn't just me reading into Christy's own experience as a nursing mom, she's still actively targeting others by saying this mom had success with no affect to her milk supply. This is so, so dangerous. Stay vigilant Mamas, and thank you SO much Hannah for reading my story and bringing awareness!

Hi! I'm a nurse, lactation consultant and tandem nursing mom of 2. Your story made me so angry and sad all at once. Breastfeeding is incredible for your baby and this mom is sabotaging nursing moms by starvation. It's incredibly dangerous for anyone, but like you said, especially awful to be targeting post partum moms. How ever you choose to feed your baby, your body needs at least a year to recover from giving birth and you need good nutrition to be your best for your baby. Thanks for your story! Hopefully new moms can be made aware of the dangers of optavia and other unregulated and unsafe supplements and diets

I did the first day of the one week training, and the rep told me they go into the housing commission areas SPECIFICALLY because they're less educated and easier to sell to. I had actual morals, so you'll be glad to know I didn't go back for day two. Even as an 18 year old I knew that mentality was exploitative. I had no appetite due to PPD and it ABSOLUTELY affected my milk supply, I ended up having to supplement with formula to meet my kids needs. Promoting a starvation diet postpartum isn’t just irresponsible, it’s dangerous. PPD can present even worse if moms basic caloric needs aren’t being met.

It’s crazy to me how different each pregnancy is not just from person to person, but from pregnancy to pregnancy. With my first at about 6 months old I decided to crack down and get in shape. I was exercising basically daily, eating about 1200-1500 calories a day (not a program, just counting calories) and my milk was awesome. I had so much. Similar story with my second, but now my third I’m only 10 months in and I can barely keep up. I’m eating plenty, not really exercising, and not trying to lose weight but I’m way worse than when I was. Everyone is different I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

PPD is a major factor in insufficient breastmilk production. Sometimes people get the cause and effect mixed up. Treating the PPD with proper medication ( check the thyroid!!) can result in a return to sufficient milk production.

i will never underestimate the importance of nutrition during breastfeeding now that i've been through it! before i got pregnant i was very underweight and hardly ate, and stayed that way throughout my pregnancy. even the doctors thought my son would be very small and i basically had no bump... thankfully he came out 50th centile despite my terrible diet. but nursing changed all of that, i went from eating a couple bites at meals to two full adults portions every meal and still feeling hungry! been nursing for two years now and its changed my entire outlook on nutrition. how awful it must be to have some MLM pray on your vulnerabilities during such a sensitive time, my heart goes out to those women and their babies.

My 5 weeks ended when a teammate got arrested for ticking through the security chain. And then taking the baseball bat from a woman in her 70s trying to refuse him entry. I told the supervisor that he was lucky he got arrested (not shot) and quit on the spot as soon as the police got done taking statements. They even gave the rap to quit a ride home because they were glad to both secure us from the "store" and encourage it to fall apart in our county.

Having gone through the Kirby training (see Hannah's MLM Horror Stories #14), they do train the door-to-door reps with aggressive sales techniques. We were never told to just barge into someone's house or literally block the door, but we were told that an effective tactic was to take the sales presentation from the living room to the bedroom (to vacuum the mattress) even if the homeowner protested.

To the person who worked at the Hyatt, I also worked for a Hyatt and we were lucky enough to get the Herbalife convention every year. Same exact experience. No banquets, just flooding the outlets, ordering the cheapest things and not tipping. It was absolute insanity. There was a party and a bunch of them had plastic compartmentalized bead containers full of supplements. Two of the people dropped their containers and pills were everywhere on the ground. We got more enjoyment than we should have to watch a group of people scramble frantically to pick up these “miracle supplements” like they wouldn’t live another day without them.

Instead of stopping and explaining the "Zeke Alert," you should just make a slide that you put up that explains what a Zeke Alert is. Like some people have a disclaimer at the beginning of their videos explaining the video is their opinions, Fair Use, etc. You could have a Zeke disclaimer if and when he becomes too loud for too long and you must talk over him :) Just pop up that slide at the point in the video where you would normally tell us that Zeke is being Zeke.

eating 800 calories, shedding weight super fast, posting tons of before-and-after pics, and doing a lot of exhausting activities (pumping milk) sounds like a post partum eating disorder if I’ve ever seen one (and my god I have). there needs to be more awareness about how many are affected by this. it’s okay to not lose pregnancy weight fast, it’s okay to not loose all of it or to not loose any at all. you may have given birth, but your lifestyle and your body are still not back to how they used to be, and they may never be. the hormonal changes of pregnancy can last for years, and hormones are well known to affect weight. it’s not your fault if you don’t lose weight. it’s not a failure, it doesn’t make you less beautiful, less worthy, less good of a mother and a person. losing weight isn’t inherently healthy or good for you, it should absolutely never be a priority over proper nutrition for you and your child.

I would also be concerned about the quality of the milk that she produces if she is low on her nutritional intake - if she’s not getting enough vitamins, either her body is not getting those nutrients or less is being put into her milk (or both), which could even impact the baby that receives her milk. Of course moms have enough pressure than to overthink that if they are just eating/doing what they can, but intense restriction is where I would feel worried about nutrition

I was scoring the comments to make sure someone brought this up. Some baby who is getting donated milk - probably because they are having health problems that won't work with formula and either don't have someone they can breastfeed from directly or have some reason that won't work - and this kid is given this nutritionally deprived donated breastmilk? If the kid continues to decline, the pediatricians and family etc will blame the conditions that led the kid to need donated breastmilk and not the breastmilk itself. Absolutely horrific unethical behavior on the part of that mlm hun. (Sorry for the thread necromancy, I didn't know who Hannah was till like a month ago and have kind of been binging the content lol)

If someone even so much as puts their foot in your door and blocks you from closing it, they've committed a forced entry and you are within your rights to call the police. I know this because I got into a full-fledged fight with someone when they did this and when I called the police afterwards (and they even knew the person, who was a known troublemaker, despite being in their teens), they informed me of this. A person doesn't have to be fully in your home for it to be an entry that was unauthorized. While I'm not a fighter, had that Kirby rep tried to do the same thing the other guy I fought did, I probably would've just gone straight to trying to break his kneecap. Similarly to the Kirby story I once had two people show up on my doorstep with no vehicle in sight. There was a young attractive girl, early twenties at her oldest, who did all the talking and there was a guy with her who said nothing. My doesn't like strangers in the house so I answered the door and then stepped out onto the porch. It was broad daylight and a gorgeous day, as the girl kept repeating. She said that they were demonstrating something cleaning related, I can't remember if it was a device or cleaning supplies, but she was taking appointments to clean one room in each home. Then she said it was such a nice day she was hoping I would accept and allow her to quickly demonstrate so she could go enjoy the rest of the beautiful day. I had to say no four or five times before they finally left. The male part of the pair did not say anything the entire time. The girl also said that my neighbor who was in her eighties had agreed to a demonstration, this did not concern me as much as it could have because her son lived with her and had recently returned home. Pretty sure they were not expecting him to be there. And as I said at the beginning of the story they arrived on foot, and had no supplies with them just a clipboard. I also had a thought afterwords of what I should have said, I really wished I had asked if they had a peddler's licenses. I also wonder if I should have called the cops or mentioned the police. Long story I know anyone have any ideas on who they worked with, there were not any robberies or burglaries in my neighborhood in the following days or weeks. So I'm like 90% certain they were not casing the houses

Scary about the first story and breastfeeding. When you pump or breastfeed, your body will put in the milk what the baby needs, weather or not you consumed it that day. So if she is starving herself, her body is pulling nutrients and calories from breaking down muscle and bones. She may not be feeling it immediately, but long term health effects can be very detrimental 😢

The hotel people making their own lemonade is TOTALLY a thing lol. In college I worked at a huge high end resturant. They had a small stage where they put on concerts and shows, a fancy resturant and banquet rooms where they also had weddings plus two bars and more private rooms. It was a whole city block and pretty high end for a mid sized city in Ohio. Anyway while we had alot of wealthy people come in we also had plenty of normal people who wanted to splurge on a night out or a fancy Easter Banquet for the whole family. We did have some soft drinks, bar cocktails, beer, wine, coffee and regular hot tea- people were always asking for other random drinks like milk or sweet tea. While others seem horrified at the prices of the drinks. Now this place was nice and pretty pricey, but a coke wasn't THAT expensive- like $5 to $7 ten years ago but that included free refills for anything non- alcoholic. But people were still pissy about the prices. I can't tell you how many tables demanded vast amounts of bar lemons and sugar- or orange slices and sugar. They'd try to make their own lemonade or orange juice- which of course DOES NOT WORK. All you get is sugary, sour water and a super sticky messy table. I HATED when people did this. First off they weren't paying for the drinks which kept the bill down- which is fine. But these kind of penny pinchers NEVER tipped right unless it was 8 or more people we could autograd. They also whined about the bill, under tipped and left a HUGE MESS!!! Ugh. Honestly if you can't afford to tip or pay for soft drinks- why are you eatting out?? I eat a home because I'm POOR lol. I only go out if I willing to pay for the service I get. Also I would NEVER leave an awful mess for some under-paid over-worked server or busser to deal with. I always pre buss my tables and wouldn't dream of leaving congealing sugar water, squeezed lemons and empty sugar packets everywhere!!! Sorry that trigger me lol. Rant over.

I was under Kirby for 5 weeks right out of college. The way they've got their minimum system set up You need to get through 60 doors in a month ( which includes getting to that phone call in the house) to get your salaried minimum, otherwise you're limited to your comitions. Yeah, now the way the incentive structure is set up for the managers encourages them to drive a Van full of sales people around the neighborhood. This combination means you work 2 hours for Every 45 minute appointment if everybody gets throue every dore. So they trained us that every 3 to 6 doors we've did not get through the entire team had an extra unpaid hour. My breaking point happened when I was getting chewed out by the supervisor for letting a Mercedes Benz salesman push my foot out of the way. It's when the cops rolled up on us and were detaining the entire team. Because someone had just been arrested for kicking through a security chain. And then taking the baseball bat a woman in her 70s ( in scrubs) tried to use to expel Him from her house so she could go to work.
