Hi ya'll! Appreciate all the concern for the foundation and roof; A) Roofer has me on the schedule! Can't hurry him up any faster 🤠 B) Foundation guy that came out quoted me $85-100K+ to fix the foundation 🤠🤠 double yeehaw! Will not be going that route, so in the meantime I'm just using my noodle to think up some solutions of my own. Not exactly a project I can do in a week, but it's definitely on my radar! I promise you, I'm not walking around my house blind, I'm just crafting up ways to fix ma shit lol Hope you all have a great week! ♡♡ edit - re permits: the structure is not attached to the house and small enough to not need a permit! I checked into it beforehand🕵🏼♀️

That’s how it is! I’m getting a new roof after more than a year of leaks but I had to wait the rainy season out and save enough Money. My house has had lot of creativity into the renovations, from bribing my grandparents to come for Christmas dinner, and sneakily wrangling Grandpa into showing me how to fix plaster cracks to paying a plumber in beer and pizza hahahaha.

You could make a canvas “roof for the deck so it would attach to the actual roof easier and you could remove it during winter so it doesn’t get damaged. I was just thinking about the angle of the roof and the weight plus amount of snow that would sit on it.

Love the look of all the open space you found to go. I live in the south and I get it that colder places can change the level of a foundation. Here soil drying and creaking dose it. I'm sorry you have not found someone to help you. It's hard to explain , but not as hard to level a pier- n -beam home and needs to be done to many homes. Cement homes get cracks and then have to be jacked up and filled in. Way harder to do. So not just getting undeveloped happens to more the PNB like your. Sounds like contractor wants to put in adjustable jacks under your home. Only reason I can think for that high a cost, but not judging don't have all the facts. The hardest part is haveing to crawl under your house were you have to jack up your home a little higher then needed for level not much, after either adding to blocks you have or then stacking cinderblocks in places( you need them added like under heavey firebox/ fireplace or refrigerators) After adding or creating you lower jack back down on to the blocks. There is a house level kit it contains a long tube to create a large flexible version of the little level that on the yard stick one you have used. Truth is you can understand it better if you watch videos of leveling a trailer house/moble home. Rv's you only do corners so not those.

You don't really have to remove the water from the hole. In a wet hole, just put the tube in to the correct depth and then pour the cement mix in dry. the mix will soak in the water in needs. Since this isn't structurally critical (and not even attached to the house), you can be more relaxed about the "proper" way to do things. In fact, an argument could be made that you don't even need to use dug footings at all - just set the "feet" of the deck on concrete pads and let them flex slightly with the frost heave. Just a suggestion, if it's not too late....

2:47 for moments like this I'd love to know at which point in time it was recorded. Where I am at somewhere in central Europe, summer is in full swing (I don't say that because we had very unusually hot 37°C for two days now). When do people from different parts of the world exactly put "spring" and when does it start to become summer? I don't mean the meteorological start of the seasons, I disagree with them. For me, May is the transition month! June is summer. (so is July and August. September is the next transition month and October is fall to me. Some Novembers are transition months, but they can be winters already, too 🥲 And then it's winter for half the year, yikes.)

I haven't read all the comments so I don't know if anyone has told you or not but if you do not chop down those trees that are growing up beside of your house where you're planning on putting your deck they are not only going to destroy the foundation to your home it's also going to destroy your deck. All the money that you have spent renovating your home and building the deck will be lost. You need to cut down the trees and put something on the stumps to kill the roots otherwise it will grow back and you'll be in the same boat. I know this because trees were growing out from under my home at the foundation and it had started to destroy the foundation. I cut the trees down put something to kill the stump and the roots which has saved the foundation of my home.

might be worth researching a decking with a pergola. (there's a youtube vid called "building a floating deck on uneven ground" that might be of use) i think that will give you the kind of roofing you're looking to allow you to add fabric for shade during the warmer months and take down in the colder. Also that way you can add all your twinkly fairy lights and even plant a wisteria or a similar climber and you'll get the beautiful flower scents to chill under. oh and a set square and post level will be your best friend

I seen a video Once where you can take car rims, boards or trees you skin the bark off of, put it in the center of rim, they put concrete on the top of it to make it flat and for weight, they can move it all around their yard, each one of them, if they had string lights on it the little hooks where you can hook your string lights back on and they moved it all over the yard all the time.
@lynetteclauser35512 жыл бұрын
Problem area along the perimeter you can do your self. Your grand pa was on the right track with the house jack, just forgot to put a larger piece of 3/4 plywood under jack to spread the weight and not sink in the mud. Plus he must place the jack not in the way of where the support must go. Then just lay out a concrete pad (large paver) and a deck block on top (the come in 2 heights). and are made to our 4 x4’s either vertical or horizontally. Interior sagging is a little more complicated and a little bit more dangerous. If you could find a house mover who is just willing to lift the house, while you and your friends lay pads & deck blocks and new cross beams on top of blocks. They would have to be leveled across the entire beam. It’s hard, dirty work, but could be done for less than 85K.
