RE pointy shoes: If the point starts to slim down after the toes, then they **can** be comfortable, even if one has a wide set of toes. That makes the shoes longer, which can increase the tripping factor. That being said: humans are amazingly adaptable and muscle memory changes to accommodate the things we wear. If you get used to wearing pointy shoes, you don't trip on them. The question is: do you want to wear them often enough that you get used to them? And do they truly suit the silhouette you want to create? As a person of short, stocky stature, I find that, when paired with the right trousers, pointy shoes with a small heel can create the illusion that my legs are longer. But If I wear them with a skirt that shows my legs, they're unflattering because they make me look even stockier. So much depends on context.

Hey Hannah - I just wanted to say how appreciative I am of everything you espouse about thoughtful fashion purchases. I recently lost over 20kg and I was lost for how to dress / where to shop since I hadn't been 'normal' weight since my 20's. Since I'd been watching your make up content for a while, I went back through your fashion videos that I'd mostly avoided as I hadn't felt any need to pay attention to my clothes when I felt uncomfortable in my own skin. It did SO so much to stop me falling back on fast fashion outlets and making impulsive, excited decisions based on just being able to fit into things. You also led me to retailers I would never have been able to find in the sea of choices. For the past 6 months I've bought only a few high quality investment pieces for my wardrobe based on my lifestyle (mostly office wear), and I've never felt so comfortable or confident with my clothes. (I've also perversely enjoyed the covetous envy of my colleagues. Yes, I'm serving looks at this consultancy firm.) I bought a pair of wool pants today (it's winter here) and I'm fizzy with excitement for them to arrive in a way I haven't been for something I've ordered online in years. This whole journey has been a revelation and you're solely responsible, so thank you!

RE the socks/sandals/gen z thing - there is definitely an "ugly" fashion renaissance happening. It's the idea that "are you really a fashion girl if you can't pull off ugly stuff." Athletic flats, mismatching (like gym shorts with a cute top and ballet flats or pattern clashing), "unflattering" silhouettes, crocs, skirts over pants, long jean shorts, more is more, etc. I think it's fun, even though I rarely incorporate it in to my own style haha.

I do think this only applies to outfit/situation, because most of the time, I think very pointy shoes just look ridiculous. In a business setting or quite formal setting, they can work with the right clothing, but any other more casual setting makes them look like someone is posturing or trying way too hard.

I would love a video about "Where Gen Z Is Taking Us" in terms of style/fashion/makeup/aesthetics! Initially I was rather put off by a lot of the Gen Z fashion trends but over time, perhaps by osmosis, many of them have grown on me and some I have even applied in my own wardrobe. It seems as though there are fewer rules with Gen Z style in general, and I really enjoy that!

I am the person who was like "no never!" about tall socks! I've never liked tall socks on me because I have quite wide calves and I've always thought it made my ankles look wide and wasn't flattering to my leg shape. BUT I'm really trying not to think about clothes as "having to be flattering" because I think it really boxes in creativity when it comes to fashion, and it really is just fun to add a little pop of color or print to an outfit, especially during the summer when layering options are limited.

I'm all for not giving fashion (styles) an age. I'm working at a small boutique and it breaks my heart every time an elderly woman says "I'd love wearing this but I'm too old". And I know it's not exactly what you are saying with your thoughts on wether to wear the high sock trend or not. But it gives me similar vibes. If it is anyone's problem that a millennial is pulling of a gen z signature, than it's the problem of whom is judging. Personal Style is picking what you love from different styles and trends (at least this is how I learned it from you ;)) and just experimenting. And I love fashion for that 😊

As a 33 year old millennial who lived through the embarrassment of having socks that were too long and would actively roll my socks down over my foot to create a faux-ankle sock, I fully approved the long sock trend. I oddly like the look and is very practical at the end of the day. I can't count how many times I have had ankle socks roll into my shoes and to fix them. Note this is coming from someone who has size 10 feet and is tall so the longer socks might feel more proportional to the rest of my body and be part of why I like the way they look on me.

Even though it’s summer, if I know I will be in AC I’ve been wearing my several years old Aritzia blazer instead of another jacket, usually with jeans and a white graphic tee. Pro tip: pointy shoes won't scuff at the point if the bottom sole protrudes past the upper portion of the shoe. Try to shoot for those when you're shopping. You can also go to a cobbler and have them install a sole protector that protrudes past the point if you already have a pair or really like a pair with a sole that doesn't do that.

Get some universal/clear shoe conditioner! The scuffing is most noticeable when the leather is dried out, so if you condition the leather the scuff will blend in better and might even essentially disappear. Same goes for general nicks and scratches, you can make an old pair of leather heels look brand new again with a clean cloth and some leather conditioner :) they even make black and brown tinted ones if needed that work even better by dyeing the scuffed bits

I'll say as someone who does love a blazer and works a "polished casual" kind of job - I don't tend to wear my blazers WITH tailored trousers because those pieces together result in another formality level up (like officewear) if that makes sense. So, I'll either wear a tailored wide leg pant and some kind of top, and if it's layering season, a non-blazer jacket or cardigan (basically what you were describing yourself wearing)... OR a more casual jean/cargo pant/elevated sweatpant on bottom, often paired with a graphic tee, with my blazers, to keep my overall look within the formality level I prefer. So in my experience it is less about the rest of your clothing matching the blazer's level but more about the overall combination and effect. Either way if you end up trying I'd be interested to see your styling of it!

Linen - if you want it to last forever - wash on warm or cold, and hang dry. I had two handmade linen dresses that I killed because I put them in the dryer (yes they were washed 50 times before they died but linen from the 1800's is still around and structurally sound). Linen as a spun fiber is not as structurally sound as cotton or wool or silk, it does not as naturally cling to itself in the spinning process (as cotton, wool or silk do). PS NEVER dry anything on hot - it dries out the fibers so much that they becme brittle, then they break and you have holes.

I bought a beige, good-quality linen vest at a little independent boutique...30 YEARS ago! and I still wear it regularly, even though I'd call my style casual. Something more tailored makes me feel safer and "dressed." I wear t-shirts when I want to "disappear";" I don't think they ever look great.

15 sec. to the video had to pause to write that you look SO GOOD! (i'll be back for additional comment) 1. Pointy shoes - I can't see myself in those pointy mules as you said it has all the cons in my eyes. BUT i'm still drooling on the Gucci muled sling back shoes, i think they classy and cool and better shaped. 2. Blazers - I think as soon as you stop labelling what you wear to where and focusing just on what and you like to wear the clothes you have it is soooo freeing. As a first step i'll suggest just to thrift one good blazer (this is the most easy piece to thrift in the man section) and start incorporate it into your daily outfits. There is no need to do research nor to buy the one that is "the right one" mostly highly branded and priced. 3. Socks - I adopted the socks colorful/patterned trend on Winter with all kinds of shoes and i took it into spring with clogs and i love it A LOT! I'm 48.5 years young and finally left behind what is right and appropriate. 4. Fisherman shoes - I like the idea of them but haven't found a pair that doesn't feels meh. I got to a conclusion that the shape is just not for me. Have a lovely week :D

One of my favorite shoe brands is the Danish brand Duckfeet; I have a beautiful navy blue pair of their wool lined boots, and their mules, which make great house/backyard slipper shoes. They make a fisherman sandal too, and I am definitely circling. 😂 I could see myself getting a pair, but maybe not right away this summer. As for the tall socks, I find it hilarious how visceral a reaction they seem to bring out in people. I'm the stubborn millennial who thinks the tall socks look like a kid who pulled on their dad's socks, in a way that's entirely unfashionable - but that playfulness which you touched on, is undeniably there. Maybe someday I'll wear a pair of my handknit socks that way, and just be delighted. Who knows. 😂 Glad to see you moved into your new home!

RE: the Duckfeet sandals...If you do buy...just fyi, the leather has A LOT of stretch in it. I bought a pair with my usual slightly roomy fit and the straps have stretched to the point that they now feel enormous and I no longer wear them. I would choose a pair that just fits, no extra space!

Over the last 10 years or so, I've really embraced tall socks! But not plain ones. I'm talking, knee high stripes, patterns, florals, galaxy rainbow kittens, etc. I love the look of them layered over colored tights with shorts. I also wear them whenever I'm wearing ankle boots to give a little pizazz and length. I'll give them a try this summer without tights and just with my sneakers and see how I like it. I actually have low socks ONLY to wear with sneakers in the summer, anyways. So embracing the Gen-Z tall sock trend could help me minimize my collection, lol!

I am a 32 year old woman with a bleach blonde mullet who also dressed relatively "out there". Recently I have become aware of how tiny socks are a no-no and for old people after I had just invested in a bunch of'em that are super cozy and completely no-show in a shoe just last year - I was so happy. I still like if no part of a sock can be seen in sneakers + cropped pants (which are a signature look of mine). But I have shyly begun pulling my sport socks up and over my leggings when going to the gym... and I think it looks good! Edit: I also love wearing pointy shoes, and have a pair of sandals and a pair of boots. They are not flattering as someone with tiny little calves and big feet, but they make me feel oh so powerful.

The formal vibe is something I perceive immediately whenever I spot a blazer. I have been circling around blazers for years myself and thought if I get the colour and texture right, I will wear it eventually. Fast-forwarding 3 years, my cameo green linen-lyocell blazer has never seen the light of day but lives dormant in my wardrobe. Poor thing. For me a blazer never looks neutral enough to complement an outfit in a way it looks both cool and casual at the same time. The formality is always present due to its cut. Funnily enough, a trench coat - another classic staple that matches the formality level of a blazer - appears to be more understated and universally flattering. Maybe it's the corporate vibe the blazer is yet to shake off after all. In the meantime, I congratulate the lawyers, the bankers and other corporate job holders who get to call the blazer an authentic wardrobe staple they look absolutely fabulous in.

I apologize in advance for the length of this comment, but I have ALL the thoughts. You just revealed how my brain + fashion is all of the time and it isn't my profession. I have always loved fashion because it is philosophical (or can be). The dramatic tension in your fashion life (if I may be overly bold it is because it is also my plot line) is the desire to buy something and love it forever and your natural curiosity about new ideas and ways of thinking. Lots of your questions in this video point to that, IMHO and here are my thoughts for what they are worth. Please do NOT feel 'aged out' of Gen Z's ideas if you like them and find them practical. DO walk past if it is uncomfortable, impractical or deliberately infantilizing (as I'm sure you would). I am 53 and embracing the crew sock look as long as I am also wearing something else of the moment, like a linen set, boxer shorts, etc. so it looks more intentional. Mid-height /crew socks feels like an extension of the dad shoe, not toddler fashion, and I'm ignoring the look when it's hot. Has every generation embraced something "ugly" as cool? Isn't that the fun part? Gen Z does seem to be challenging the relentless sexualization of womens bodies, even if they only make visual wins at the skirmish level. I love Gen Zs directional briefs as well, even if I don't embrace them all. But I've been most surprised by my reversed opinion on long inseam shorts. I'm 5'3" and long ago settled on the 4" inseam as best for my frame. But I now own two pair, 7" and 9", of light cotton Bermudas in uber light cotton and am smitten. Especially with socks and Birks. No one more shocked than me. I am back and forth and so far no on: loose open hole crochet knits Now to the specifics of your list: 1) Love the linen vest, yes it is a classic and will last. Question really is short or long, which depends a bit on body type. 2) Blazers and sport coats are forever. But I think the current moment is ironic as fewer people are wearing them in office so its just classic appropriation (the good kind) I think you are right they are mostly outerwear and a shacket is the country cousin 3) Pointy shoes come and go and contrast nicely with wide leg pants and bring a sharpness to the line, especially since the stiletto heel is def OUT. Take a look at the Nisolo mule line for more affordable option to Jenni Kayne. I have two pairs of her mules and find they don't have enough cushion, but Nisolo's Ama is my summer dressy shoe nisolo.com/collections/womens-loafers-and-mules/products/womens-leather-mule-woven-black. Rothy is also super popular. I occasionally scuff the toe but not as much as you'd expect. 4) The fisherman sandal is a mood but a lot like your existing Birks, no? The challenge I have when presented with a new love is whether it plays the same function as something I already have and love. Sometimes I talk myself into a different color of a variant, but its a path to more, not less.

I have high arches and I have a hard time tolerating foot pain anymore. I remember in college in the 80s and early 90s seeing people on campus wearing Birkenstocks and socks together. To me it is still a hippy look and not fashion so it has taken me a long time to embrace Birkenstocks because of this. What I love is that the company is constantly releasing shoes in fun colors. They are not the dowdy shoe I believed they were any longer! I think confidence is fashion so I’m now loving putting foot health first in importance- especially if I can have fun colored shoes while I do it!

"How much would this have to be marked down for me to be willing to buy it?" is such a grounding and excellent question! This will totally slow my roll when I get all hyped up looking at just *any* sale price; thank you!! Also, briefly (well, for me at least): *I have a pair of velvet pointed-toe mules (flat) from Doen that I got for a wedding a few years ago and they are now my only dress shoe. On paper, they go against all realities of my comfort level (boots), sense of security (don't like feeling like a shoe could fly off my foot at any moment), and susceptibility to the forces of gravity (stumble often for no apparent reason, which is awkward but on the other hand has always kept me from drinking to excess--why make a bad situation worse?). ANYWAY-- those shoes are amazing and even served me well in an ill-advised, mission-driven walk around Pasadena, CA in 90° heat in search of coffee the morning after the wedding. For me, the issue is the lack of support, not the shape of the shoe. *Blazers--love 'em; wear them all the time with a graphic tee and big hoop earrings or a softer, more feminine tee (see again: Doen), jeans and boots. Bottom line: You are style personified! You will rock whatever you commit to! All you have to do is keep being you!

RE the vest shirt getting outdated but still suiting your style: do it! I make & wear a lot of vintage clothing and love how I feel in 1930s-50s styles. Imo anything sitting at the natural waist is timeless and if you like how it looks, who cares if "the fashion world" might think you're "musty?" If you're gonna love wearing vest tops, wear them as long as you want. Of course, they'll cycle through again eventually, as everything does. But for you personally, they can become a staple rather than a trend.

Wore Robert Clergerie very pointed black leather shoes daily. The leather is so fine and soft; at least 30 years old. I never felt like I was going to trip or anything, they are some of the most comfortable shoes I've worn. Its an easy way to look and feel incredibly stylish. They are an exaggerated point; can't tell about the Jenni Kayne, but no, they won't be problematic at all. If they still fit, I'd still wear them. I keep them because they are treasures.

I am a die hard pointy shoe wearer! For so many reasons. My specific loves have been the J. Crew d’orsay flats in pretty much any color, pattern, and texture… they have done me so well through college and into my young professional years now. What I love about them is their versatility - you can dress them up with a suit for work or a nice dress for dinners, or down for pretty much anything (day outing, errands, heck even my college classes). Regardless of the setting or occasion, I feel like they never seem out of place and manage to make a look instantly pulled together, which is probably what caught your eye in the woman you saw! They also compliment so many silhouettes - my personal go-to are very slouchy wide leg jeans and those pointed toe shoes have the edgy shape and show enough skin to balance the proportions out! As for comfort - I’ve found that not all pointed toe shoes are created equal, so you really do have to shop around and find your Cinderella pair, and expect to need to break most of them in. I live in Washington DC and walk EVERYWHERE in mine!

Long Socks - I’m a long socks convert. Grew up a young millennial, so ankle-flaunting no-show socks were *the* thing. I lived in a big city, and I was noticing long socks about 7-8 years ago when the art students started bringing back the 90s. At first I was gagged, but now I’ve been wearing long socks regularly for years and I love it. I wear them in solid colors so it’s a statement with shorts and it’s a little pop of color with trousers. Vest - Last year, I got a custom linen palazzo trouser with matching blazer (from OffOn). Lately, I’ve been seeing the vest trend and kind wishing I’d made it a 3-piece suit 😭 Blazer - I love my light linen blazer. I got it oversized and it’s great for layering in cold weather and for sun-protection in hot weather. Pointy Shoes - It’s a no for me. I’m into foot-shaped shoes, usually zero-drop. I have wide feet and sensitive toenails, so I’ll never own a pair of pointy shoes. Fisherman Sandals - You just influenced me to want jellies. I wonder if anyone’s making them for adults…

Gen X here. Trends are so cyclical, but I think your attitude towards them depends on how old you were when you first encountered them. I was too young for the 70s and 80s trends, so when I see them, I cringe and think of awkward childhood outfits. On the other hand, I mistakenly believed I helped invent 90s fashion, so when it is trending again, I think all is right in the world. I was in my 30s and 40s for most millennial trends, so I was initially disapproving and then late to the party (no show socks and skinny jeans are two good examples) and now relieved that they are finally going away. I am hopeful that now, in my 50s, I am finally ready to wear what I like and really lean in to personal style over trends. We'll see!

I wear a vest like a single top 20 years ago and still do. For me, it's a timeless look. 😊

What an awesome video! I am going to comment on pointy shoes, though I must confess to being MORE into square toed shoes at the moment. I want to chime in for those of us who don’t have the “straight across the top” toes, but have the shape of foot where the big toe is tallest, then the second toe, then the third, etc. till you get to the fifth, tiny little piggy…IOW, there are some of us with toes that work in a triangular toe box❤😊. The pointy toed mules would work for some of us from that standpoint. I think they look elegant and super comfy!! Love them!

I always have the struggle of finding cute and/trendy shoes because of the foot issues I have (wide, flat, have had multiple foot surgeries in the past, weak very mobile ankles). So I need good support, and space for my toes. Pointy shoes are never on the table for me. But I’ve also seen a lot of research coming up about the fact that most shoes (regardless of style) pinch in at the toes which crowds them and can have a long term impact on the body. I’ve seen so many “wide toe box” shoe brands popping up because of this.

Fisherman's sandals are funny to see because they feel like they took the strappiness of "Roman" sandals and combined them with a water sandal like Keens which I stomped in rivers in as a kid Pointed shoes feel timeless but I haven't gotten over my association of them with the Wicked Witch shoes in the Wizard of Oz! Amazing how childhood associations stick so strongly

I love pointy shoes. I think, like every shoe, the last and the arch makes for a comfortable fit. I have a long, narrow foot so the shoes look fine on my feet. I am tall and I really enjoy the point on my flats. They just seem more elegant and balanced.

Hi, I think I like pointy shoes for several reasons. One I line the elongated way my feet look in them, and secondly I spent a lot of my early twenties in the most rounded shoes, and now I acociate that kind of shape with who I was then in a way that doesn’t resonate anymore. I also like how they feel more dressed up to me, and as I dress more casual I like the counter point. On a completely different note, I was browsing the Ozma site, and I noticed some of the editorial pictures the model is wearing what looks like a Lorna Murray pleated hat. I have one of these hats, and I’m obsessed with it. It folds up, it looks kinda out there in the best way. And it’s an absolute amazing sunhat. This was one of my big purchases last year, and I just wanted to share that. As always, lovely video.

I wore the fisherman sandals with a rounded toe box in the '90s or was it the early '00s? and cannot do them again. Loved them back then. Now I get unpolished adult stuck in child phase vibes. Blazers have been a wardrobe staple of mine for years and will continue to be. Cotton ones are easy maintenance, very comfortable and seasonally versatile. I have a thin, unlined linen blazer that I can't get enough of during the summer, especially during cooler mornings. Seeing the blazer trend on others makes me happy. Y'all look so elevated!

I was laughing out loud at your description of pointy shoes! I have pointy shoes and have never even given them a second thought, but all of your comments were spot on lol. So much shoe with no foot in it! Heels but on the front! All I can say is I feel feminine and classy, and no toe pain (with the caveat that in some pairs I’ve sized up to avoid a super-crunch).

I’m a millennial who has adopted the sock trend but I made it mine with some hiking socks made of wool and really great cushion on the toe and heel. It works for me but does in fact incorporate that trend ❤ thank you for your content
