*Helpful tip especially for menstrual cup users* when you rinse the cup, use *cold water* first for removing the blood to avoid staining of the cup. Same goes for removing blood from clothes. The reason for that is that *warm or hot water* activates/ speeds up the coagulation of the proteins in the blood which makes it much harder to remove stains without using bleach .

Hannah, I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you've made this video. I have been flirting with the idea of reusable pads for a few months now, and after this video, I went straight to TheFancyPads on etsy and bought 3 to try, with a wash bag, and will see how that goes. Hoping to purchase one a month of I like them, and slowly come off disposables all together. Although period knickers are more expensive, they seem so comfy for heavy days - think a pair of those will be my next purchase! Thanks for a great video, and encouraging us to make positive changes if we're able 🙌💜

Here is my experience with all three reusable products. Menstrual Cup: I love the idea of the menstrual cup. I purchased the diva cup years ago, but due to my vulvodynia, I was unable to insert it without extreme pain. When I started to get the pain under control thanks to physical therapy, I tried the softest version of the Lena cup. I was able to insert it successfully, but especially since getting the copper coil, I get really awful cramps when using a cup. Unfortunately this product has not worked out for my body. Period Underwear: I have a set of period underwear from Thinx which I absolutely love. I found that they are not absorbent enough for me to wear all day but they work super well at night. When using pads, I ALWAYS had leaks at night but I haven't had a single one since using period underwear, and they are so comfy to sleep in. Cloth Pads: I bought pads from Luna Pads and Tree Hugger Pads, but I didn't really like either of them. Luna pads are not absorbent enough for me, and the tree hugger pads caused leaks because they don't have an exposed core. So... I decided to sew my own cloth pads. This is so much more affordable! I was able to buy everything I needed for a whole set of cloth pads for about 50 dollars. I am currently still working out the kinks, but it is such a fun craft to do, and I get to pick out the fabrics and design my own shapes that work for my body. Additionally, learning to sew cloth pads has given me the confidence to start sewing clothes for myself! I hope every person can find products that make them feel comfy and confident on their period!

@@becca92900 I've almost entirely switched over to THINX for my whole period after saving up for enough pairs. It takes some getting used to (you have to figure out when the best time to change pairs for you is and you need to figure out a washing schedule that works for you) but I've yet to have a single leak and I've NEVER had that peace of mind. They sell them for heavy flow days now with a higher absorbency but I wear the normal flow ones with an organic tampon on heavy days and that works well too. I plan to buy the heavy duty ones soon to cut out plastic completely but going down to like 3 tampons a period has drastically reduced my period-related waste. Every bit counts. Highly recommend giving them a try! There are a few THINX influencers who have discount codes so I'd suggest trying to find one of them.
@sakura9400
@sakura9400 4 жыл бұрын
@@becca92900 After a couple of hours (like less than 4) they felt a little uncomfortable, and I only wore them on my lightest day. So unless you're at home and can change them easily they weren't very useful. Having spare thinxx in your bag takes up a lot more room than pads or probably reusable pads. Of course everyone has different experiences, but the cup is so ideal for me so I'm going to stick with that but have kept the thinxx for those "I might start my period today?" days

Been using the cup since 2016 and switched to reusable pads when I got my IUD (almost 2 years ago). I gotta say that I love the cloth pads. It is so comfortable compared to disposables ones. It doesn't irritates my skin like the disposables ones do. Some of my friends finds it digusting to have to wash out blood instead of just throwing away the pads or tampons. I would take hand washing pads (I rince them at the end of the day) everytime over disposable.

It really was convenient felt healthy and saved money. I highly encourage people to try it if they can. It's really not messy as one might think. I'm 56 I'd never heard of period panties except as a joke for old panties you don't mind getting stained. Seriously! I was nearly always light to mediun those would of worked great for me as well as the reusable pads. If I only knew. If only others could know so they would at least have the knowledge to make better informed choices on this Hannah you are a remarkable young woman. I learn so much from you as a sex educator. I've been using reusable cloth pads for more than a year now and I love them so much! I have never been able to get on well with tampons and I tried to use the menstrual cup so many times but had the same problems, so then I decided to try out some cloth pads and I honestly never want to go back! They feel so much nicer and softer on your body and I find they absorb wayyyyy beter than disposable pads 💜 Sometimes they do tend to move around a bit in your underwear so I usually just wear another pair to stop the pad from moving 😂 like some people do when they wear tights and that works great!

I had to use a disposable pad recently because my period started suddenly and for some reason I didn't have my little period purse in my bag. I was so shocked when I had to change the disposable one because it was so much sooner than I had gotten used to with the reusable ones. If I hadn't known before I started using them ( I sell them) I would have assumed my periods had gotten lighter but it was just that the reusable pads absorb more or that the disposable make you thank you need to constantly change, I don't know. And I have a heavy flow usually.

Loved this video and have been consistently using a moon cup for a while now. Side note, I agree with your point about how the real difference that will be made to the environment should and needs to be through governments and large corporations. However, we have a responsibility too! Every day we are supporting these large cooperations by buying and promoting their products, it's all about supply and demand. I think people almost use the fact that personal impact can't make that much difference as an excuse to do nothing at all. I also accepts that it's impossible to be perfect, I just think some people reject all responsibility.

Thank you for the video, Hannah! I've been using a menstrual cup in combination with period underwear for more that a year and it truly changed my relationship with my period cycle and my period blood. I understand it's not for everyone but for me personally it's so comfortable and it really is money saving on the long run. I bought my cup from Organicup because I like how they make sure to be sustainable in every aspect, for example the packaging is minimal and cardboard only. For period pants I've heard that Thinx are the best and most popular, but I bought mine from Your Moon Time because they're more affordable - a set of three pairs is $30 with free shipping worldwide and you can choose from different colours. So now I use the cup most of the time, either with normal underwear or the period underwear as backup protection, but sometimes I guess my vagina gets tired of the cup so I take it out and only wear the period underwear, switching between the three pairs. It's great and it made me really passionate about the topic of sustainable period products. I might join the facebook group tbh. Also, I'll make sure to make a little donation and share your video to help #TeamTrees!

Naomi Rose May I ask if that was a painful experience or just an unfortunate one? Of course this isn’t to say I’m going to try, I’ve just always wondered what that really entails. Did it do any damage?

I barely felt the IUD come out, that didn’t hurt. But inserting a new IUD is very painful. (Which is done at the doctors office, can’t put it back in yourself)

I’ve been using a moon cup for about 4 years and will never go back, I love it! I like that everything keeps clean and fresh down there while you’re wearing it and it’s so convenient that you only have to buy one. I also have a really light flow so wear it for 12 hours at a time so I only have to change it in the comfort of my own home before bed and in the morning. Definitely recommend trying a menstrual cup!

I loved this video! I recently bought a menstrual cup from Organicup and I love it! I also bought period pants, I have yet to receive them though but I'm glad I finally took the leap... Your video of "Trying a menstrual cup for the first time" helped me persuade me to buy one and put my fears to ease - so thank you Hannah for this videos you do :)

Apparently it being higher up than tampons and pads lessens the cramps by releasing pressure (allegedly)

Larger cups are a life-changer for people with heavy flow. No more leaking or gushing onto the bed, clothes... I started with a small cup to learn to use them, but the larger holding volume is definitely life saving
