Hannibal is a 2001 American psychological horror thriller film directed by Ridley Scott, adapted from Thomas Harris's 1999 novel of the same name. He's the same Ridley Scott as he was back when he was doing Alien. The only difference is he's now too famous and powerful for anyone around him to call him out on his bad ideas. Nobody was too scared to stand up to him on the set of Alien. If they had been, we would've gotten a very different movie. And on Blade Runner, they say Harrison Ford did nothing _but_ question him.

My understanding is that Harris really did NOT want to write this or Hannibal Rising, but his publisher basically demanded it and they were guaranteed best-sellers that would make him tons of money. He didn't give a crap about the quality. IIRC, he even said in interviews that the book ending (where Lecter successfully woos and\or brainwashes Clarice) a deliberate F-U to everyone in the public who had elevated Lecter to cult status. "Oh, you love Hannibal Lecter so much? Well, here's your happy fucking ending!" Honestly, the movie would have been better if it had had the gonads to retain that ending, and just ride the controversy.

I saw this film four times Loved it. It's Hannibal being Hannibal. In the first film, he is a pent up animal. Here, he is in his element. He is "fat and sleek" as his Red Dragon quote of Horace would later describe. Hannibal is an elegant psychopath. Pure and simple. Plus, serial killer films changed in the 10 years since SotL. They got as elegant as he did.

I don't think opinions of the movie are high, but I agree no one outright hates it though and I personally love it myself. A great centerpiece for Lecter and Starling's evolving dynamic and a great display of how Lecter despite being a cannibal has a very strong code of ethics that's offset by Verger as the main antagonist. Then you get a great villain in Verger who despite being disfigured and crippled by Lecter is a hypocritical child molester who was getting away with his crimes thanks to his wealth and now wants to punish Lecter for punishing him-and basically Verger became just as ugly outside as he already was inside.

This only makes me wonder what a great piece of art the whole of the Hannibal series would have been if they hadn't stupidly cancelled that glorious TV series! For me, Mads Mikelsen is a WAY better Hannibal. I love Anthony Hopkins' acting, and I love Silence of Lambs, but he plays Hannibal like a movie monster (as Dough said), not as a serial killer who hides in plain sight, like Dexter (when he was good, in the few first seasons), someone you would never picture hurting a fly, except on self-defense. So Doug has no problems swearing in these videos but in the proper reviews, he self-censors himself... for the most part. It can't really because of KZbin's algorithm, it'll still get claimed by movie production companies or music publishers and the like. Sooooooo I guess he is either trying to make his reviews a little more "family friendly" or just make his character seem less like angry.

If you both can review the movie please do not hesitate your reviews are so honest wise and refreshing. Thank you so much!! Love your channel & supporting always 😁💕
