Murderous Vietnamese Commie regime even had a thug murdered Christian pastor Giuse Trần Ngọc Thanh, like it has done with many other pastors across the nation. There is a reason why the current Commie Vietnam ranks at the bottom of the world in freedom of speech, (true) freedom of religion, and freedom of the press, barely above Commie China and Commie North Korea. Search "cuop dat dan" (meaning "land-robbing of citizens") to see millions of footages across the country from North to South, spanning for decades, dated back to Ho Chi Minh's bloody land reform 1953-1956 that killed nearly 1 million North Vietnamese in only 4 years, or 250K people brutally slaughtered in torturous painful deaths (like being shot, stabbed, mutilated while being alive, or heads being plowed over by water buffaloes while bodies being buried underground) each year on average to rob their lands and homes. We went to both Hanoi and HCMC (Saigon) as well as Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, HK, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, KL and other cities when I worked in international development for a Fortune 500 company. She passed away in 2014 and I miss my best travel companion. I'm so glad we got to travel together and it's wonderful to see you and your Dad do the same.

I first visited Vietnam in 1992, staying in Saigon. It was an amazing, AMAZING experience. There were very few travelers and the people living there were surprised and did double takes when they saw me. In 1995, I took the train from Saigon to Hanoi, sharing my train car with a Vietnamese gentleman. I grew up during the Vietnam War and had preconceived ideas and notions about how it would be. Hanoi being the capital city still had hardline Communist followers. I was told by plainclothes police not to talk to students around Hoan Kiem Lake in the center of Hanoi. The few stores there had display windows that were dusty and dirty - one had a showcase window with nuts and bolts. There were few restaurants and accommodations compared to Saigon. But…. Hanoi had a lot of charm more than making up for the lack of creature comforts. The wide, tree-lined boulevards evoked an era & feeling from years ago. The people I met were gracious and curious at the same time. By the way , the Hanoi pho is fantastic !!!

I have never been to Vietnam, but friends who lived in Asia always told me that the country was their favourite vacation destination. I really didn't know much beyond the high points you showed last year. So basically everything in this video is my first time seeing or hearing about these parts of Hanoi. A friendly reminder to plan to go to Sapa only when the weather is forecast to be nice there. In early December 2022, we made the mistake of going to Sapa even though the weather was forecast to be foggy for almost a whole week. We were not able to view and appreciate the beauty of the Sapa region because it was so foggy.

Thanks for this and your previous travel videos on SE Asia. I am currently in Chiang Mai, and have followed several of your recomendations that you made for Phnom Pehn, Siem Reap and Bangkok already. My trip has been wonderful so far by following the footsteps left by you and others. Your father is an inspiration to all, to see him gamely take on the day with whatever gems that you have found, or adventures that you have planned. I will be in Hanoi in 20 days, and definitely plan to use this and last years video, to help plan my itinerary. Keep on making awesome content.

It really is nice to observe your travels all over the place with your Dad as companion traveller. How he manages to keep up after a 30 hour flight followed by enduring crossing streets of of busy, unstoppable Hanoi is amazing. Can imagine the street with the night market you went for dinner the night previous. Very enjoyable - have fun - look forward to your next encounters.

Hello Alina! I really enjoy your high quality videos regarding Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand and Vietnam. I spent 3 years over there, while serving in the US military during the Vietnam conflict. I will be returning to visit that part of the world real soon. Judging from your videos and other You Tuber’s videos; I have noticed that part of world hasn’t changed significantly….aside from the high rises, shopping malls and highways; the “quaintness” of the country sides and towns have remained the same since I was last there….Again, I enjoy your videos….

Harriet and i enjoyed our time in Hanoi back in 2017. Love the night markets and the friendly people. Alina , a question you asked in the video is why is there water in the saucer with your cup of java. Don't quote me on this but it gives you the option of light or thick . Pouring the water from your saucer into the cup keeps it light as opposed to thick. Did dad enjoy himself? Was he able to keep up with you? We follow his posts on Instagram all the time. Oh that’s an interesting take with the water, could very well be! My Dad does find it hard to keep up with me, but he does fantastic for his age. And honestly sometimes I have trouble keeping up with me lol.

I know why you chose the cute little cafe for your thumbnail in this video. Not only is it very picturesque, it is an oasis from the chaos of the streets of Hanoi. We had Hanoi’s best “eggs benny” and avocado toast and great coffees from the second story balcony. Just street watching from there was worth it.

Keep the coffee warm while drinking it slowly. In the other hand they will place ice around the cup to keep the coffee cool for ice coffee ( avoid watering because.of hot coffee)

7 years ago I took my two teenagers through Southeast Asia and we spent a month in Vietnam and a lot of time in Hanoi and I still remember beer Street where I can get five beers for a US buck. Then we went to Hoi an and had custom tailored shoes and clothing.
