Mike Monroe and his band continues to rock. While other rock bands come and go Mike Monroe not only promotes positive change on a world wide scale but also plays true rock and roll in the face of all fads and fashions.

It is impossible to underestimate Hanoi Rocks' influence on subsequent generations of Rock musicians. They were prime movers, mo doubt about it, albeit followers of a grand tradition which from Blues, passed through the Stones, 60's Garage, 70s Glam, The Dolls and Punk. If there was any justice they would be as huge as other outfits who so obviously ripped them off. "Pioneers get all the arrows"....

Hey! I was typing my reply to your post while listening to the interview, and Michael said the word "cyanide" after I pressed reply, right around the 26:00 minute mark. Wow! Freaked me out!

@@rickjag4928 That's awesome! You were destined to comment to me! Hahaha!! Thanks for the compliment about my name. No, I'm not in a band, but it IS inspired by Marilyn Manson and his band mates names. I made it up about 12 years ago and I use it everywhere online. Another one I've used sometimes is Alisyn Chains because Layne Staley was a dear friend of mine and I loved Alice In Chains when he was in it. So how long have you been a Hanoi fan? I'm going on 38 years!! 🖤 🤘

this is the best interview I have ever seen I like how you asked about his father I wonder how his mother is if she still alive people over there really start out young and if they were living on the streets I wonder why their parents didn't send them money

yeah I really mean it this is comprehensive I adore him I forgot that he was married his wife is beautiful I just saw some pictures I Google image her.. yeah it's fun to see him talk about his childhood and how he recalls dates so easily !!! his father was in radio he looks like his father.. it's amazing how young Andy and him left home and I do wonder why his parents didn't send him money so he didn't have to sleep in the subway and ride the train
@Elvenpath6 жыл бұрын
In his biography he says that he wanted to be independent and didn't want help and didn't even tell his parents he was living on the streets because they would have asked him to come home. Because he was underage they could have legally forced him to come home. His father says in his book that they didn't really know what he was doing because he didn't call for several months. It also says that when they got a place to stay they called their families again and Michael's mother used to visit and filled their fridge.

@@Elvenpath I went through the same thing. You want to be independent and not bother your parents.

I remember reading that he said his parents didn't approve of the way he dressed and looked (the hair and makeup), and so he left home at a very young age. People in his community thought he was gay and didn't think it was appropriate for a man to look like that. He said he had a very hard time in Finland during the late 1970s/early 1980s because of that, people often called him slurs on the street, and skinheads threatened him all the time and attacked him. He has two siblings I think, but not much is known about his family because he doesn't really talk about them, it sounds like he's estranged from his family, but I don't know for sure. I do know that he wasn't really into the rocker lifestyle, in that he wasn't superficial, nor was did he enjoy partying and drinking, and he wasn't interested in sleeping with groupies. He said he could never imagine having some one-night stand or casual fling with a stranger. He dabbled in drugs for a short while, first amphetamines, (and then some more after Razzle died) but never became addicted, he could always stop easily. He met his wife in the 1980s and was married to her for a long time but she died very suddenly and unexpectedly after many years together. This sent him into another depression, but he's doing much better now.

@OgrenorgeYes he did, lol.. He was spun out of his mind on speed for most of the Hanoi era (at least up to the end of 83/early 84) and has talked openly about using copious amounts of speed for a few years after his wife passed/during the Hanoi reunion. So he was absolutely spun out during most of this era.

Hanoi Rocks was never a hair band. More talent in Michael's little finger than half of those bands put together.Hanoi had depth and substance that others only dreamed about. Duran is another band that was ahead of their time. So much great talent!
@michaelfrazia45696 жыл бұрын
@@emma9833 you are right...Hanoi was talented as was duran... too often groups who look good are judged as lacking talent. I saw Duran live and the fact that they created the sound of their albums live back in the 80s changed my whole opinion of them
