This is an excellent video. I’ve played this exercise for more years than I care to admit, trying to figure out the right hand gestures. Never had a teacher consider the gestures important - they just looked for end results of speed and evenness. I always thought there must be better and worse ways to try to achieve the end results. Thank you! Very valuable!

It does help. I've only been practicing for a month now, and I'm having trouble playing Burgmüller's Arabesque evenly, but adding these motions does the trick.

I agree that tension is the enemy. I also believe that focusing on proper technique and expression is more important than trying to build speed, especially at first.
