As well as Captain Hook he was a great Grinch. He was supposed to have reprised the role for The Grinch Grinches The Cat in the Hat but died before recording began. The reason he got the role in Grinch Night was because The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T did really badly and Dr. Seuss himself wanted to make it up to Hans by offering him the Grinch. What a corking performance!
@matthewhedrichjr.544510 ай бұрын
At least The 5000 Fingers of Dr fared better in its later years. Conried was supposed to voice King Stefan in Sleeping Beauty; but while modeling the character and did some additional voice work, the truth regarding Lord Duke’s voice has been completely destroyed when Taylor Holmes was chosen as Stefan for the final version instead

13:06 Although he did manage record some additional voice lines and that the herald’s voice and accent is sorta like Conried’s, there are some numerous irregularities, not to mention Conried’s own replacement by Taylor Holmes as King Stefan, gave rise some unanswered questions like how had really voiced the unnamed herald, so we may never know the truth as to who voiced the herald because of Hans’ own replacement. He was also the physical inspiration for Frollo in Hunchback of Notre Dame and possibly for Queen Uberta’s head butler named Lord Rogers in Swan Princess, due to their facial appearance and mannerisms being a little bit similar. Glad you were able to do a biography of Hans Conried!

It's worth mentioning that a few of those propaganda films he worked on during the war were written by Dr. Seuss who became his friend - that was why Seuss was always recommending him for films and TV specials he did, from Dr. T to the Grinch, and even Horton the Elephant in Chuck Jones' Horton Hears a Who, and I must say he's a far superior Horton to Jim Carrey, innocent but not dimwitted, and a nice change from his usual villains and stuffy professor types.

The Late Hans Georg Conried Jr. (April 15, 1917 - January 5, 1982) did a Legendary Performance Bringing Disney’s Version of Captain James Hook to Life and I can definitely tell that Hans Conried had a Blast Voicing Captain Hook in The 1953 Peter Pan Film.

@@matthewhedrichjr.5445 It may have been a matter of economics, I’m mean June Foray did 4 characters and Mel Blanc did 6 or 7 characters easier to have 1 person to multiple rolls than higher a larger cast. When you do something you love then stress is a good thing to experience, I figure.
@matthewhedrichjr.544510 ай бұрын
well the thing is it can also result in some consequences like failing health issues. Had Conried turned down King Azaz just so Bill Thompson could do that role, maybe it could have possibly not result Conried in suffering a stroke in 1974. This is why King Azaz and Dr Hoovey are my least favorite roles Conried ever did

The 5000 fingers of Dr. T is a bizarre, and I mean BIZARRE movie even by Dr. Seuss...and yet it was also one of those movies that was the victim of Studio medleying so much so Dr. Seuss swore never to do another movie again and it was only his friendship with Chuck Jones that we got How the Grinch Stole Christmas on TV. Any way, if you ever find a copy, Hans Conried steals the show, I mean, there's a dance fight he has with the other guy and his physicality and everything and you go, wow, this guy was only a radio star? He really could have played an awesome Captain Hook in live action. I'm glad more and more people are coming to appreciate and learn about the old Character actors who helped make so many memorable characters since I think a lot of people don't appreciate how much Disney relied on radio voices/character actors to cast many of his movies from Snow White to at least The Sword in the Stone.
