Hans Fährmann (December 17, 1860 in Lommatzsch (Saxony) - June 29, 1940 in Dresden) was a German composer of Romantic music and organist.
Fährmann's work as a teacher was enormous: 47 years as a university lecturer have left his influence on hundreds of students. The terms Father of the Saxon organists and Fährmann-School were current at the time; even at Helsingfors (Helsinki today) in Finland there are traces of Fährmann's activity and influence as a teacher.

This is really quite a good concerto - the composer's sense of harmony and melody is very sophisticated, and well utilized with the wonderfully written and very idiomatic virtuoso organ lines. The emotional depth is admirable, the piece is quite moving. Ms. Blazhevich also does the piece justice with her excellent playing, it's a shame the recording quality isn't better - Herr Fahrmann's Sinfonisches Konzert definitely deserves a professional recording.

This work shows very sophisticated writing for the organ (I am a concert organist)...

I hadn't heard this before. If you want another excellent organ concerto, there is Dupré's Concerto for Organ and Orchestra in E Minor, Op. 31. There is an excellent recording by ABC Classics (Australia) recorded at the Adelaide Town Hall. The album is titled 'French Organ Concertos'.

I also have his Op. 25 with Michael Murray but there is no score available for either this one or Op. 31 you are referring to.

Interesting choice of having both clarinets in Eb. Brings a bit fun (or annoyance, depends on how you feel about Eb) to the clarinettists doing mostly low register on a tiny clarinet having to blend a rather... let's say toyish timbre to an overall sombre piece. (Whoopsie! 1:06) Can't say this choice actually brings any significant effect to the overall timbre to make it worthwhile asking the clarinettists to pack an extra clarinet.Usually we see this setting in marches but hey ho it's a magnificent piece and it's an interesting talking point.

Do you know Gounod's Concerto for Piano-pedalier? I wished I had that score. Roberto Prosseda recorded these also for Hyperion.
