The Julius Baer Generation Cup is the 7th of 9 events on the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and takes place on chess24 from September 18-25. The 16-player field will be cut in half by the 4-day round-robin Prelims. The total prize fund is $150,000, with $750 for a win and $250 for a draw in the Prelims. The quarterfinals and semi-finals are 1-day, 4-game matches, while the final will feature two such matches over two days.
The players have 15 minutes for all their moves, plus a 10-second increment starting from move 1. In the Prelims there are 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. If a tiebreak is required the players will play two 5+3 games and then, if needed, a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

@@RiposteLaique1 well... Actually only one expert says so. Magnus, Eric Hansen, Hikaru, now Levon are all suspicious. This game looked so engine assisted, here how it looked like: step 1. play an opening step 2. throughout middle game, play weird and unintuitive moves that are not losing as long as the game is considered drawish, +- 0.5, no matter how weird and inhuman the move looks like step 3. repeat step 2 until your opponent makes a mistake. You can't go wrong because you are engine assisted anyway, you can't lose a +- 0.5 game you can only draw. step 4. if the engine shows something like +1.5 out of opponent mistake, proceed to play every best move and win The idea behind step 2 is to play weird moves that will instantly throw off guard your opponent while making sure your move is not losing either. Playing weird moves increases the chances your opponent will blunder because they're out of their comfort zone.
@amelliangames7365
@amelliangames7365 Жыл бұрын

Not really... A computer won't attack like a caveman. This is either pure GM instinct, or a combination of human caveman thinking and computer assistance. I use to attack like this when I'm cheating online. Of course I'm cheating on anonymous lichess 1 minute games which doesn't hurt anyone, but when I do sometimes, that's how my games go. This game looks like someone who doesn't know how to play elegant chess, has some kind of superpower of looking at the future. Very suspicious, but then again, I am not totally convinced that he did in fact cheat in this particular game. But I could be wrong and I'm wouldn't be surprised.

The Be3 followed by Be2 isn't THAT bizarre. Once Aronian decides to play g6 the bishop isn't doing much on e3, so Niemann sends it to a better square while unquestionably taking Black out of preparation. That last part is important because one wrong move in the Najdorf and Black is toast. Niemann gave Aronian a free hand to play whatever moves he wanted, and Aronian fell right into the trap. Either that, or Niemann misread the signal from his butt plug. 🤷‍♂

Many of Tal's sacrifices and combinations were not strictly sound and relied on the human inability to see through the complexities that his wizardry conjured up. Stockfish would have laughed through those. This is not to take anything away from Tal. On the contrary; his complexities defined chess, as it was then, as unfathomable. With the present potential for and the fear of cheating, as well as pre-game engine-assisted preparation, his like will not be seen again, I fear.

@@drjoyrajghosh2271 I have been a huge fan of Tal since the 1960s (when I first began to play at competitive level). I'm not sure what's misleading about what I wrote. I think Tal himself would have admitted that many (though not all) of his combinations and sacrifices were not strictly sound. As I noted above, neither he nor his opponents were always at all sure about how these might be refuted (if they were unsound) in any given game, and they were only shown to be so in those instances by GM post-game analysis, but in those instances where they were unsound, his opponents were often (usually) unable to find the best line and thereby refute them over the board. I think that this is partly why Tal was so loved by us ordinary patzers back then. In anthropological terms he represented to us a sort of chess trickster figure.

If the bishop was in d3 instead of e2 could've been taken by the knight in e5, maybe Hans saw that because it seems he wanted to play vs the f6 knight at first (he seems very short on squares after f3 and ...Nd7) and saw that black can play Ne5 to leave a retreat square for the other knight. Also Be2 leaves the d file open to attack d6 if black plays ...e6 which it does.

It was interesting to hear Magus’ interview from a while back on cheating. He said that even if someone signals to him that an engine has predicted that at a particular stage he has an advantage, he can think hard and find that move. You only need such a signal once in the game to get a massive advantage. He also said that there is a psychological impact on both players if one suspects the other of cheating and if the other is cheating because putting pressure and delivering under pressure is such a massive component of the game.

I thought Hans did a great job confusing Levon. F3 is normally used when White has castled Queen side. Black marshals its resources on the Queen side and White goes King side. Normally e6 is played by Black. In this case, it was the losing move. This is the era of the engine. You can go with the sixth engine choice if you've studied it well enough. And Han's Be2 could have been part of that analysis, in response to Bg7. If I had an engine, I might have checked that out.

Every now and then a lower rated player sees some surprising success against higher rated players. It's not common, but it definitely happens, and usually people react with appreciation to his skill. But ever since Magnus decided to do his little performance everyone's jumping to conclusions. It's really disturbing how readily people would just follow whatever Magnus says like it's gospel (and he didn't even have the balls to outright accuse him, choosing to imply it and act like an angry child instead). Look how Levon reacted when he lost, admitting he blundered and taking it in stride. I hope Magnus gets deposed by Nepo. What a douche
