Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

I would have loved to see the look on Botvinnik's face as he analysed that one and it slowly dawned on him all the many possibilities it opened for Tal, and that even a great defender like him was unlikely to be able to close out ALL of them. One of the most beautiful single moves ever.

When tal thinks 3 extra pawn is not enough for botvinniks piece, shows how good Bottvinnik was. And this is tals thought process as a great attacker himself. My most favourite game, not because tal won, but because he was so beautifully humble.

Superlative analysis ! Excellent commentary. Clear, concise. Fascinating game by two great champions ! So exciting. I'm amazed by the balls of Tal: Imagine under that pressure, to make that intuitive positional knight sacrifice !? And without any real follow up? In a world championship game? So young, so gifted. So gutsy. Wow. Brilliant. Beautiful game. No wonder Bobby loved this guy--he was there on Tal's death bed. What a legacy for Tal. Breathtaking, hair-raising game. Now I can't sleep! Lol. I felt like I was literally witnessing God's work in progress. Thank you Maestro for this exposition.

This is just THRILLING. The "inexplicable" (to the audience) move by the knight followed by the audience- and grandmaster-agitating move by the pawn. I love the fact that Tal kind of intuited these both. Chess at its most magnificent - thank you! Separately, I just re-watched the Capablanca Marshall 1918 game on this channel (another pretty breathtaking game, esp the way Capa thought on his feet) and there also is much ado about a black knight in that neck of the (woods) board.

Pozdrav is Niša.

IIRC correct it was botwinnik who said: "there is no shame in losing a game, when your opponent plays brilliantly.".

Glad i revealed and calculate the tactic of the knight move before i continue to watch. Need really crazy mind to planning what will come after, and if your opponent falling to your minds, you are magician.

as i am not a native english speaker and no "native" chess player, i reduce the playing tempo of this video to 0.75, because evrything else is too fast for me. So i still can understand your commentary and the sense of the draws. ;-)
