LaPorta didn't do anything to Messi it was either Barcelona or Messi and for me No one man is bigger than the club but Xavi treatment was wrong

I dont think letting Messi go was the issue. It was the manner in which Messi was kept in the dark about the situation while the president assured him and the public that all was well in the background. For instance, Laporta should have been honest with Messi that things are not confirmed and that he cannot give assurance to Messi. Then at least Messi would have more time to decide on his next move. Instead, in a span of a week, Messi went from looking forward to his contract renewal, to a rushed goodbye conference, to joining PSG, right before the window closed.

I agree the club over everyone, but it was rather the way he handled the situation @daniaaal explained it really well. I just don't think he was honest with Messi and for a player that gave his entire career to Barca he deserved a lot better

I like to think that Xavi got a good opportunity at Barca, if he wasn’t a Barca legend he wouldn’t have gotten that opportunity and perhaps he would have been sacked even earlier. He did a good/decent job but not a great job due to his lack of experience. We are all emotionally attached to Xavi but the club must progress, so in the end it was the right choice from Laporta. Yes the manner wasn’t good, just like Messi, he wanted to keep Messi but he couldn’t, it wasn’t doable. If anything people should look at Bartomeu who is the root of all out problems. But think that getting Font would be better, that’s what they said about Bartomeu. Laporta improvises a lot but he’s highly intelligent. I would rather a problem solver than someone who think they have a plan and find out it doesn’t work. Reality is different from fiction Mr Font:

Yeah I agree with all of that, they did trust Xavi and gave him a good opportunity but it was time for a change and maybe he took the club as far as he could take them

In 2020, when Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 8-2, if anyone told you that Hansi Flick would be Barcelona’s manager 4 years later, people would laugh at you and they wouldn’t believe you. This is a reality that’s actually happening in 2024 after Xavi was sacked. Football is just a funny game, because the guy who was the driving force behind the worst moment in Barcelona’s history from a footballing perspective is about to be their manager next season. Even though sacking Xavi was harsh and disrespectful, Flick is an upgrade on him. Many people will look at his recent stint with the Germany national team and I agree that it didn’t work out because their downfall started before Joachim Low stepped down as their manager and rebuilding a struggling team, it wasn’t always going to be easy for him, there’s a massive difference between club and international football and we also shouldn’t forget how good he was at Bayern Munich. With international football, there’s not as many games as there is at club level as he can only meet with his players a couple of times a year meaning that implementing his style and philosophy was difficult because there was a different variety of players, whereas at club level, you’re with the same core of players week in week out meaning that you’re able to implement your system and it gives the coaches a much better advantage and understanding with the players. Anyways, even if his time at Bayern Munich lasted for a season and it’s true that at the time they were an elite team, it takes a certain level of manager to win 6 trophies in a span of a year. In the 2019-20 season, they struggled initially and were inconsistent under Nico Kovac, after he got sacked, Flick’s arrival made Bayern Munich a more dominant team with the way they won the treble and literally looked unbeatable. He created history by being the 2nd ever team to win a sextuple which is 6 trophies in a year. He’s reuniting with Robert Lewandowksi who by the way had his best ever season under his manager at Bayern Munich where he should’ve won a Ballon Dor by now and maybe we’d see a better version of him under his former manager. Despite his struggles with the Germany national team, he should be able to turn Barcelona’s fortunes around since he’s the exact manager that they need because they should be competing for Real Madrid in La Liga and at least make a deeper run in the Champions League. With all due respect to Xavi and while there’s so many injuries and they’ve had a difficult period financially it’s an inexperienced team with a lot of young players, realistically they need a proper manager in order to elevate themselves and be playing at a level you’d expect from them. Let’s hope that Laporta doesn’t look foolish for sacking Xavi because as a wise man once said you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Yeah i dont know how he will do but as a bayern fan i can say that he only can make players feel comfortable like a family but thats all. In bayern he won many trophies yeah, but he didnt bring anything knew tactically. He sticked with niko kovac's new system which was implemented after the liverpool game thats why under him tottenham were also thrashed 7-2. Same barcelona 8-2 against flick this time. Also he had key players at that time. Prime gnabry, prime lewa, prime muller,a good alpho so davies. And thiago and alaba who were the most key players. Also in germany many players inlcuding kimmich questioned his tactics a lot. Finally he prefers experience over young talent so that could be a disadvantage for the likes of Yamal, pedri, gavi. Anyway thats what i have seen and its just my opinion so dont take it very seriously maybe he will prove me wrong but we can not judge a manager before the season starts.

I am very excited for next season but we also need to make sure we are patient with Flick cause it is his first season and the players need to learn a new system but that also doesn't mean we go trophyless again we need to see some progress even if its little!

All of these football clubs nowadays are ran like a circus and Barcelona sacking Xavi after convincing him to stay not too long ago it’s just disrespectful and embarrassing and it just shows you how poorly ran these clubs are. Even though he crossed the line with what he said about how they’ll try to compete with Real Madrid even under their difficult financial situation, sacking him makes them look foolish. It’s difficult to take clubs like that seriously. On his own terms back in January, he already made up his mind and said that he’s leaving at the end of the season as at the time, they got knocked out of the Copa Del Rey and fell behind in the title race in La Liga. After that, they experienced an upturn in form with them trying to make a late push in the title race and get to the champions league final which left to many people wanting him to stay at the club. Joan Laporta begged him to stay despite going trophy less and he actually convinced him to do that only for him to get sacked a month later. It’s similar to Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich, he wanted to leave, they got rejected by multiple managers, there’s talk of them staying only for them to leave at the end of the season. Xavi kinda put himself in a trap, but Barcelona’s desperation and stubbornness is at fault for this messy situation because he decided to leave in the first place and if you knew you were gonna sack him, why convince him to stay. He didn’t get sacked because of their performance even though they didn’t have a great season, he was fired because of what he said about their financial situation in a press conference there were also reports that he was losing the dressing room and certain players weren’t treated properly by him. The whole world knows about it and he said something he shouldn’t have brought up in the public, but he’s said nothing wrong. They treated a club legend unfairly, but it’s best that both parties their relationship is over officially. He wanted to leave in the first place and he’s getting what he initially wanted and from Barcelona’s perspective with all due respect to Xavi, I would’ve given him more time, but the really is that they’ve gotten as far as he took them and if they want to have a chance of winning the champions league and competing for trophies, an elite manager is what they need and while there’s a lot of excitement around flick’s arrival at Barcelona as he’s an upgrade on Xavi, nobody likes the manner in which his situation was handled especially since he’s a club legend even his legacy as a player is differentiated from his status as a manager. This reminds me of a toxic relationship where you broke up with your girlfriend then you get back together only for you to break up and officially end the relationship.

Xavi broke the agreements made when they decided for Xavi to stay. Roque would be playing more and Xavi would be more positive towards the press and in general. Xavi felt the dumb need to say we can't compete with Madrid next season. You know how that comes across to the players and supporters? As weak. Giving up before you start. A boxer stepping in the ring but thinking he will lose before the fight starts. A top club like Barca can't stop believing and expressing this before the season starts. Xavi dug his own downfall. With Flick there will be at least a more positive and better mentality and more aggression. I'm not a Flick fan but I'm curious how he is going to drill the team with discipline and fighting spirit, which we massively lacked passed season. 💜💙💜

I’d argue that Xavi’s sacking and Flick’s appointment was a political move by Laporta as much as it was a sporting decision. He wanted ROI for the Roque signing and wanted to reassure investors that things were fine at the club financially (whether that is true remains to be seen). The presidential elections are coming soon and Laporta would want to make a statement and appease the Socis by hiring Flick who is seen as an elite manager.

Xavi treatment was not wrong. None of you could have handled this better. Try being president for one day. Whether Flick works out or not, Xavi was a bad coach. Blaming the champions league solely on Araujo is wrong. We played against a 10 man team this season and they played better than us. Xavi has no tactics.

Well my friend xavi has no tactics. As a bayern fan let me tell you that neither does flick. At bayern he sticked with niko kovac's systemnwhjch was applied after that liverpool defead. And he just had key players that time at bayern likes of prime gnabry, muller, lewa, davies and the most key players alaba and thiago. When time came to manage germany and started to make up his own tactics key players like kimmich criticized him. Even Toni kroos didnt rate him when he was at the NT. Anyway those are based on what i have seen from him and it just my opinion so dont take it like am an expert talking maybe he will do well but only time will tell.
