We live in CT. You are correct. We are taxed to fart here. Our 5th wheel tax is 2000.00 our truck is 2000.00. If you aren't on th highway, there are very low bridges. Campgrounds are scarce, and expensive. They tax your home, cars, toys, groceries, everything. You pay 10 cents for a bag at a store!!! They are not just RV unfriendly, they are people unfriendly. I am not a transplant, born and raised here. We are hoping to move to PA. In the future..taking care of my 95 year old Dad. We don't camp in CT.

I lived in the New London area for 45 years. I retired from the shipyard across the river from Crockers. One of the Casino tribes tried to put a RV park on their land up in Preston and the neighbors and the town fought them until they dropped the project. They do NOT like RVers there. They think we are noisy, rambunctious, and are some how not people you want near your neighborhood. The property taxes there are exorbitant. We became South Dakotans as soon as we could. We are not going back except to visit friends & Family.

Regarding the attitude toward RVers..the streets are too narrow to accomodate. Drivers in general are aggressive as you sensed on the road. Also, Too many times one bad RV apple spoils it for the whole bunch I guess. ...I saw one dump his toilet tank in the street at a stop sign where there were homes close to the street.. Stinky!... anyway. thanks for all your wonderful videos, enjoy them very much!

As a resident of MA i strongly suggest to get EZ pass, it works for most tolls in the country. I have one and traveled from MA to IA without any issues. Routes travelled from home to Iowa I-495,I-90,I-84,I-81,I-80.This route is the least expensive to head out west. EZpass in MA costs less than pay-by-plate. The I-95 corridor is the elitist section of CT. There is a lot of high dollar areas and high dollar homes. Your better bet when going through CT to ME is take I-81 out of Scranton to I-84 through a small part of Upstate NY then into CT stay on I-84 to I-90 in MA(the only toll road until ME, besides the Newburgh bridge toll in NY) then get on to I-95 to ME. That is unless you want to see the coast line of CT.

I'm from northeast. FYI tolls are based on number of axles so don't confuse what you've read at the tolls as what you'll be charged. And you are both 100% correct. Camping in the northeast at least along the coast can be troublesome because of the limited amount of campgrounds available. Good luck on your journey. I think once you reach New Hampshire and Maine you won't be disappointed

Paying by mail is often 50% more expensive than with a pass. Unfortunately, you will likely not receive the bills until they are past due. We were sent to collections for Houston tolls where the bills had not even reached us. By all means, get a pass. We traveled that area this summer and have paid over $200 in tolls. We stayed at Nature's Campground in Voluntown, CT and I think it was about $75 a night. As for lobster, you can buy them at the Hanneford Grocery for about $9.99 a pound and they will cook them for you. We bough a total of 9 lobsters for under $100. It's a great deal

As a RVer living in New England, CT has the highest site fees. You can camp for half the cost in all of the other New England states. As for EZ pass, it is good in 19 states on the east coast. Your toll will be less with it. When you come to Old New England make sure you have a RV GPS. Narrow roads and low bridges. By the way you will love it.😊

Another vote for the EZ Pass - it will pay for itself in discounts in one day thru the north east. And be careful with the mail routing - if its delayed they add on late fees, which then get to you late which add more late fees ... lots of bad stories about mailed tolls going up into the hundreds of $$$ due to late fees for what started out as $50 in fees. So glad you are getting to finish off your 50 states soon... and thank you for making your adventures so entertaining to the rest of us!

I agree with some of your observations. When you look at how built out coastal Connecticut is, and stop to realize no one is going to take prime real estate and put it to its lowest use, a campground. Campgrounds will remain in short supply. Get an EZ Pass. You set the recharge threshold on the account and EZ Pass will automatically charge your credit card with the amount preset by you. And that urban build out also means roads/highways can’t be widened without taking home and business. Railroad bridges can’t be raised because of the railroad grade. The roads can’t be lowered because of the needed land for the downgrade or upgrade.

Another great video in the can! CT is a beautiful state, filled with many towns and hamlets that predate the Revolutionary War. These areas have tried very hard to maintain their quaint New England charm and that does not bode well for RVers. I grew up and lived for over 60 years in Newtown, CT. A gorgeous location with a Main St that has a huge flag pole smack dab in the center of the street, and had such a low overpass in one spot near I84, that routinely took out semis before the state stepped in and raised it. It was a wonderful place to grow up and even though the high taxes of CT have driven us out to enjoy our retirement elsewhere, I will always be a Newtowner. In fact, growing up in New England taught us well about low overpasses and covered bridges. I now have to drive over 2 covered bridges just to get to the closest Home Depot. All RVers are well advised to purchase the Rand McNally Truck Atlas if you have any plans to travel through New England. Essentially follow their highlighted roads and know confidently, if a semi can travel the road, you can too!

I avoid 95 as much as possible. It’s true about the property tax. We have our camper at a campground in Salem CT as a seasonal and have to pay Salems property taxes on the camper and whatever is also on the site- deck, shed, etc. We hope you have or had a wonderful trip up to Maine!

Salem, Massachusetts is REALLY tight to navigate! We stayed at Winter Island park there…. It’s basically a parking lot right on the harbor with W&E and you dump your tanks when you leave at the waste water plant next door. Enjoy Maine….. we went in 22 and stayed in Phippsburg.

We stayed at Winter Island Park a couple years ago when we rented a van and thought it was a great place for overnight or two. Roads are quite tight in Salem area, would suggest staying somewhere outside of Salem. Parking can be quite expensive for the day. Definitely worth a visit.

We stayed at Winter Island many, many times and you have to book early especially if you're going in the Fall. It's definitely tight going through town there. The first time we stayed there we ended up in the parking lot spots too but right on the water. We learned quick that you have to book early to get a camp spot in the field. Great campground to explore. The first year we walked back and for to town during Halloween. Ughhh that was horrible. Then we started bringing our bikes so we could bike into town.

We have the UNI PASS from Florida. We can use it with or without the trailers. And you can change vehicles with it. One of the best things we got for traveling. If it gets low it automatically puts funds on it if activated. And in some areas you get a discount for using it. Happy camping and safe travels. Mallatobuck says hi to Dexter.

I don’t know about other places, but here in Minnesota the EZ Pass transponder device itself is free, so you might as well. We don’t have actual toll roads here (just “express” lanes I don’t use) but I got one for trips through Illinois and Indiana. The actual toll rates are significantly lower if you have the device than paying by cash or mail.

About the toll roads sending you a bill. We did that in Texas and learned that they will charge you a late fee if you don't pay it on time, like a $15 late fee. Add that up over several tolls, and you're paying a fortune. We thought we would have plenty of time to pay it, but since it had to go through the mail, and we had to order our mail from Escapees, it was already overdue by the time we got it. We finally got a TX Tag and set it up for automatic payments, and we haven't paid a late fee since.

As a veteran of two New England trips in the past 7 years we found travel in the northeast slow. Our home is in southeast NM and found tolls differ from state to state with no universal pass from OK to ME. Therefore all our routes avoid toll roads. It may mean a few more miles or extra time, but driving through small towns is a great way to see America. Our daughter and family lives in Houlton, ME, and we recommend the KOA park there. The owners are friendly and excellent hosts.

I've always lived on or near the coast (East of I95). Now live in the middle of the State of New Hampshire. We just got back from a 2 week plus trip to Montana and I was amazed at the S-P-A-C-E!!!! Once we got out of western New York state the roads opened up and the speed limits rose! So many songs came to mind "Wide Open Spaces", "Dirt", "Buy Dirt", "Dirt Cheap". Yes, New England states do have farms, small ranches and even vineyards, but nothing like out west. "Urban sprawl can't go very far as we are already packed in tight. We started slowly traveling a few hours away from home getting used to campgrounds and the etiquette that goes along with most. Not everyone is friendly and wish that RV parks/Campgrounds would put the seasonals/long term stays in one area and weekenders and a day or two in another area. GOOD Luck and GET an EZ PASS account FAST!!!

I highly recommend getting an EZ Pass, especially since you have family in PA. When you go through the EZPass system of highways, you will pay less for your tolls than when you have them mail you the bill. There is an extra price for the mailed one. (notice in your video that they told you the difference on the sign) And, you do NOT have to live in the state where you get an EZPass. I have 2 different states, one of them being NY. NY EZPass gives me discounts for THEIR bridges and tolls in and around NYC, which I travel to quite a bit. My home state would not give me the same. (BTW, I went to NYC as a travel nurse in 2006 and didn't leave until 2018)... And EZPass is in 17 states! Hope this helps!

OK, let me tell you my story about toll roads on NH. Me and my bride were in New Hampshire and not used to toll roads. At like 10 in the evening, we got to a toll booth on an exit. No place to through coins in like in GA and go through, that we had. No, it was a huge list of what you can and can not do and how to pay. NO COINS. As I am trying to read the instructions a large group of cars is pilling up behind me. It was only 50 cents, so instead of holding up traffic. I blew threw thru. Lights flashing and bells going off. Just take care of it when we got home. Glad I did. When I called NH to pay my toll. He was so nice but did tell me in the nicest way. If I had not called in within I think 30 days. My 50 cents would be like $30.00. They were so nice about it and glad to help me. They understood I was out of state and not used to their toll booths. Makes me want to go back even more. P.S. : Always have quarters, but this day and age. Have a child with you that knows more tech than you. LOL !!!!!!

I haven't been back East since 1974 but I always hated all those damned toll roads and in New Jersey the garden State parkway, all of a sudden you all got from freeway speeds to a dead stop for toll booth built across the whole thing and lines disappear and people start crossing all over to scramble for the shortest line or because their lane area has closed booths. Many "Accidents" happen at them and My grandparents and Aunt were in one and told of a horrific one where a older lady was tumbled in her car and thrown out and she was crawling up this hill all bloody with the top of her head cut off.

Get 1 or 2 days of Scusset beach in MA, but buy a beach pass for Sandy Neck, it’s a few miles away. 9 miles of beach that’s beautiful and thankfully well maintained and preserved. But it’s only a nice day, nothing in tow. Best Lobster Rolls are at Superior Lobster & Seafood. We call it the ditch but it’s the Cape Cod Canal. Traffic is terrible here but I have a good friend that’s willing to sell you her Tunnel Pass, that avoids the congestion on the bridge. No spelling or grammar was changed, I’m changing my lures. You are spot on about Connecticut and I’m from CT! Very expensive and their roads are horrible. You guys are great and I hope you at least enjoy the view! And I agree the drivers are not RV friendly!

Rving in the north east is different for sure. But nonetheless so many great places to visit and things to see and do. Actually maybe the differences from region to region is one of the things that makes RVing so much fun. Always something new.....continued safe travels...

Hello from Florida. We, ( my wifey and I ) have a Uni pass. We, bought it from Amazon. It covers, I believe 19 states. It covers quite a bit of those northern states

EZ-pass is the way to go on the east coast. Saves toll $$ in many states. Don't actually need to be a resident to get a pass from several states. Getting mail forwarded will almost guarantee a hefty penalty for "late payment". Great video!

That’s so cool and weird… we stayed at that harvest host the night before you did! Wish we were late in leaving- seeing the Hanks would have made our year!! Happy travels 😊
