Hi Hanks. I grew up in that area. Something i think a lot of people don't think about is that, when those roads were built, there was no such thing as cars, huge trucks, and fifth wheels. The roads were made for carriages pulled by horses. Also, there are a lot of amazing state parks and campgrounds outside of the most touristy town in the state. People who live there tend to camp in a beautiful, quiet area and go to a place like Newport for a day trip. Also, after Labor day it calms way down. And it's too bad you didn't tour a couple of the mansions. The town owns most of them, and they are really neat to check out inside. As always, thanks for sharing. Like this format.

Thanks so much for the insight! You’re totally right. Many of these roads that we have driven on in the North East have been the nicest roads we have ever been on. We’ll definitely have to check out some of those state parks and campgrounds next time. Bummed we missed out on the mansion tours. We appreciate you watching and are so happy you enjoy the new format 🙂

Another suggestion for a hike in the Newport RI area is Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, if you like quiet. This peninsula has a trail all along the water's edge and is much less congested than the Cliff Walk.

I live in Mass. moved here 10 years ago. The people in New England area (including Rhode Island) are very protective of their trees. Around 1900 there were no trees; they had all been cut and used for heat and ship building. Some of the backroads around my area, have paved around trees. People go to town meetings to protest the town from cutting down trees.

One good thing about my toy hauler is the generator. Don't use it often but on occasion comes in handy. I always get out and check site and approach. If I see something like that stump or anything I can't see in my mirror I have my wife stand on or next to it. It's a huge help to keep from running over things I'd rather not.

I lived in Newport for a year - I’ve never seen so many cars with front end damage in my life. They park alongside the streets to the corner - so people pull out blind. My guess is many individuals at the campground are military attending Navy War College in Newport. So many military have campers and often when going to a military schools that are less than a year - they won’t move their entire families to the location but stay in the camper for the duration. Most military bases have campgrounds or campgrounds near them - it’s cheaper than renting an apartment.

Love the video! As a New Englander myself, we consider RI another country! Lol. Nothing is inexpensive in the country that you three are experiencing. MA will open up a bit, as well as ME,NH, and VT. The country is beautiful, the people are kinda short fused, but focus on New England's beauty! So happy that all of you(yes Dexter too) are now experiencing this part of the country! I hope that you will do a video of your overall experiences with all the different parts of the country, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly! It may help the rest of us as we travel the states and get to experience what you've already been able to do. All of this is so informative for me, and I'm sure the rest of us. Safe travels, Hanks. One small comment on the RV park is that most of the sites you past on your walk with a lot of outside decor were seasonal sites, their not traveling like you guys. They park it once for the season and that's it. Many RV campgrounds are leaning toward seasonal sites and thus the rest of us can sometimes find little room to spend a night or two. Visit eastern West Virginia. you will find that most main roads here are very well maintained and trees are trimmed back so as to not create an overhead obstruction Always love your videos. You are the greatest.

We parked at that same beach area earlier this summer and completed the entire cliff walk. We came back the next day to go through one of the mansions - it was stunning. As retired military, we were able to get a camp site at the naval yard area which was amazing - only 8 sites, FHU and very spacious. I couldn't imagine driving our fiver through some of those streets like you showed!! I like this type of style for the videos for these areas where there is SO MUCH to do!!

You visited my hometown, born & raised, at the WORST possible time! The Season. This is when the locals sequester themselves until the tourists go home. You started the Cliff Walk at the wrong spot (should have entered at the Forty Steps) and I can't tell if you made it around Ocean Drive! You need to revisit at the end of September/beginning of October. It is a completely different experience, calmer and quieter. Visit The Breakers (you walked by it on the Cliff Walk) to understand why/how Newport gained its fame. Visit St. Mary's Church built by immigrants brought over to build the mansions and the place where JFK and Jackie O were married. Eat at Brick Alley Pub. Visit Touro Synagogue the first/oldest synagogue in the east. I could go on and on. There is so much more to Newport than what you experienced. Please don't judge based on this experience alone.

My plan when I retired (14 years ago) was to RV to every national park and monument. But the more I read about traveling in the east, the less I wanted to go. The color change and historic places would be fascinating but the people crowds, scary driving and cost of RV parks are more than I want to take on. There is so much out west including BC and Alberta that I will never see it all. And the boon docking is great. Thanks for this video, it reaffirms my decision to stay in my own lane... The West! I’m originally from New England. Went camping as a child and took my family as an adult. Choosing to take a huge 5th wheel along the coastline will be an exercise in frustration. These state have very little actual coastline and real estate is precious. Roads are narrow, trees are everywhere and no one wants to take valuable land to make a campground that will only be open 6 months of the year. Find campgrounds inland and use the truck to sightsee. This is also the same when you get into Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Get away from the coast and enjoy the beauty and history of New England. (And by the way, Boondocking is NOT acceptable, so don’t bother trying)

Though I get that your rating system is specifically particular to your sensibilities, I will ALWAYS rate the Newport Cliffwalk a 10! I definitely like your videos. Please tell me you toured the mansions. They are just amazing! My wife and I did. In one of them we were coming down a back stairway. At the bottom you could turn right into the yard or left and come into the house. At the bottom there were heavy duty bars and a door. It looked like the bars and door were from a jail cell. They were that heavy duty. I asked about that to the tour guide. She said that back in those days kidnapping was a big problem. So at night the door was closed and locked. They had security guards armed with Winchester 30-30 rifles patrolling the property for safety.

The last place you want to stay or even visit in RI is Newport during the summer. Everything is a tourist trap for ppl like you who didnt “do their” homework. There are many way nicer parts of RI then newport and yes while still crowded cause it is tourist season still here for another month or so you should have checked out campgrounds near wakefield or westerly which is still right on the water and watch hill has awsome historic mansions… most famously taylor swifts massive one. The northern part has the better campgrounds with nice lakes and ponds… you def missed out on what our tiny state has to offer. Too bad.

Nice to see you both in the area... i was in Newport recently and the crowds don't stop but the area is so quaint and nice. Hope you had a great time if not with the Newport Walk but the coffee and the sailing! Lets see what you think about Mass.... are you going to the Cape or only Mainland. There is a great spot called "The Knack" in Hyannis and Orleans! If you want great burgers, clam rolls, lobster rolls, check them out! Its one of my fav spots! Also, taking the fast ferry to Nantucket is super cool! So much to do up there thats not just going to Boston! But boston is cool too! Enjoy!

So fun to see Newport! It's been 20 years since I was stationed there (spent lots of time at that Walmart, being right outside one of the base gates). I miss surfing at Second Beach there! The mansions are truly impressive. I wish I'd toured one while I was there. It's such an expensive place, especially in the summer! Thanks for sharing your time there! Glad you got to go sailing- it really is THE thing to do there!

The state itself is beautiful and the whole south coast is beaches. Newport is really busy with tourists so if you were looking for quiet that’s probably not the place. Prices for restaurants and bars reflect this popularity. Not sure when you were there, but the traveling elephants were there in the latter part of summer right on the cliff walk. Narragansett, Galilee and Jerusalem are also nice areas to visit.

Yes we love the videos that you make, showing to places you go to, the prices, everything. You guys are the best. We go Rving in Maine every year. Searsport Campground is the Best ever. We book it every year. Park right on the water and lots of things to do. Lobster 🦞 is waiting yum. Love you both so much. Be safe and have fun. We’ll be waiting for the video.

Well for one you were in Narragansett Bay not the ocean.😀 a beautiful place to be. Too bad you didn’t see the southern beaches and even Block Island. Maybe next time.

We’ll have to check out those southern beaches and Block Island next time. Thanks for the tip and for watching! 😊

Reneh, I am sure that I watched this video at least 3 other times before and every time I really enjoyed this, especially when you were on the boat, and just thinking about that experience was fantastic. Thank you both from Nancy and Bill and you never know when or if we would cross paths somewhere That would be great 👍

Foxwoods is so big that it has it's own police/fire dept. I've been to both, Connecticut is a beautiful state indeed.

Oh the memories! I was there in Jan 2018(?) or maybe 2019, anyway friends and I did a sunrise Cliff Walk all the way around--we didn't walk the streets. It was cold but fabulous! After they all ditched me, I walked over to that very same coffee shop! I'm glad y'all are showing how busy it can get there in the Summer months. I'd say for the Cliff Walk, if it's nice morning, start at 5 - 6 am...

If interested. You can buy a (UNI PASS) for the tolls. It works through central Florida toll system. You save money and no monthly charges like some.

Hey there! That's such a great recommendation! We have some updates we will be sharing soon on this :)

Uni pass works in many states not just one, and there is no charge for it. Just pay the tolls as you go auto-pay

We have been watchers for a while now and this is my first comment!! We have always said what was missing was adventure! We love the new style and seeing what you did and how you liked it. That really helps us when we think about visiting. Loved this episode! Ps don’t think we will add Rhode Island to our rv list. Maybe a day trip one day 😂

Another great show! A lot of those older colonial towns were laid out when horse and buggies were the only wheeled traffic so the closer you get to city centers the more narrow it is.

I live in Coventry RI, we definitely try to stay away from Newport. With that being said Ashaway is a decent place in RI to stay. And in mass I would do Normandy farms or pine lake for sure
