Nice take on two great boxes. TD-3 nails the original sound better and I prefer the built in distortion to the one on the -03, but both sound fantastic and the TB-03 has some advantages like running on batteries, delay + reverb, and being able to automate all the controls via MIDI. Can't go wrong with either really, just comes down to which aspects are most important to you.

in my country, there is a big difference in price! TB-03 $679, TD-03 $155.. you can buy 4 TD-03's and still have money left over for the price of one TB-03 😮

@@thenameisx Out of the box it seemed like the original TD-3s were a bit bright. You can get that low end back by adjusting the VCF offset trimpot in the TD-3. Just search "VCF Offset Trimpot adjustment TD-3" and you should find some videos. I think there's also a video of a guy playing his TD-3 after the adjustment against his actual TB-303, and I ran the two tracks through audacity and they were almost a 100% match. I was planning to do the adjustment on mine but mine came with that nice rubbery low end out of the box, I'm not sure if they tuned that trimpot differently on different colours (I have the TD-3-AM yellow one) or if it's just different in every one and I got lucky, but I still to this day haven't bothered to touch the trimpot because I was lucky enough to land one that didn't need it.

I went with the TB03 for simple reasons. It has reverb delay and distortion. It has a screen ! ( it's easy to get lost making patterns on a TB ). can operate with batteries. Sounds fuller than TD3.

I have the TB-03. Will sell it and buy 2 TD-3. Not cause they sound better etc. Just that Roland pissed me off!

I have both and the TB-03 is definitely easier to program. The screen helps a lot, and also the alternate mode that lets you load notes in a more SH-101 style, which is just way more intuitive. The TD-3 sounds a little better tho, those knobs are almost entirely sweet spot. Of course, that's mostly cuz 303s really don't have much range. They do the 303 thing, and that's about it. The TB-03 can cover more ground with its effects, but not necessarily in a good way. Tbh they both have notable pros and cons. Both are good choices for different reasons.

I really love this channel, keep up the good work! I used to own a behringer td-03, bought it for 84,- euros, it’s cheap and it can produce the same sounds as the original. But I sold it, didn’t really like it. The midi recieve didn’t go well and my AKAI mpc one tried to talk to him, no magic. But then I saw a great advertisement of a second hand Roland boutique tb-03. I already knew I loved the acid sounds, the behringer disappointed me so much, and it should have been almost the same!! I bought the boutique, I never felt this happiness before

What struck me was how painful it is to get ideas into the box. I've never dug the TB303 input method for writing patterns, these seen just the same. I appreciate the appeal of the relative "randon" vibe but after a while the novelty would wear off with me.

Tb-03 actually has a much better sequencer. The TD-3 apparently uses the 303's same sequencing method but also has a PC editor.

I think the input method is a key element of the 303's charm and sound. It's unpredictablity creates some happy accidents! Keep punching in patterns, take the time to figure out why you're getting what you're getting and your grooves will improve! I

I’m sorry for you guys, as I usually enjoy your videos but I think it’s not the best time to hear about Behringer at all. Their behavior should not be endorsed. Uli Behringer-many call him “the Bully”-posted a video attacking Peter Kirn, a journalist, using an idea he found somewhere else like most of his products’ designs. He even tried to trademark the journalist’s name, how crazy is that? He has issued an apology, then removed it. He said it was satire, when it was really diffamation. It is possible that the attack has an antisemitic inspiration. In a xenophobic manner, he also offended French people by mocking the French accent as snobbish and associating it with the smelly stereotype. The people who defend him in all the threads are likely part of his social media team, that must be quite big considering the money he has put into designing this pro-looking attack video and into hiring lawyers to harass Internet critics, as Kirn has covered, hence the revenge video. As I was on the verge of forgiving him for his reckless lawsuits, and maybe buying a bit more of his products, he went even further in his crazy pursuit. Giving him money is like paying his lawyers to help him harass the whole industry and even the users. Would boycott put a stop to this?

The Behringer fails because they put the wrong filter in it. The original 303 has an 18 db/oct filter, while the Behringer has a 24 db/oct filter.

Actually that’s a misconception. The 303 filter as far as I’m aware isn’t actually the 18db. But like I said it’s as far as I’m aware. I’ve heard either DivKid or Mylar Melodies day it in their videos so you can blame one of them if I’m wrong.

It's a diode ladder filter with one of the four diodes (which act as filter poles) more or less deactivated. This is what prevents self oscillation and is also the source of the 18 vs 24 dB confusion. Four poles = 24 dB
