I truly love video games, it's the only things that keep me in touch with the inner child in me. I can run, jump, fly and do all sort of crazy things I used to do as a kid. I'm old now and I got responsabilities, life is not that fun anymore, it's rather sad and disapointing at moments. But I still remember when I was a kid, going on an adventure, exploring the woods non far from my house. Walking in the unknown, discovering a new cavern, seeing new animals, the dreadful feeling of getting ambushed by a creature, the accomplishment of finding a new site. Thoses are the bests memories I have from my childhood, and that's what I keep living again with video games.

+AlphaOmegaSin I have fond memories of the time I first bought my PS1. I had a Super Nintendo, my brother had a genesis. I remember it was around 1996 or 97, and going to my local wal-mart. There, I saw an arcade game called "Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors"...and every time I went there I would feed that thing several dollars in quarters...then one day I decided I had to have the home edition of this game, and after calling several department stores and coming up empty...I finally called Capcom and asked them directly what system that game came out on. When they told me it was exclusive to PS1, I shelled out $324 (I remember the exact price) to buy a PS1 and a copy of Darkstalkers. The second game I bought for the system was Street Fighter Alpha. I even remember buying my first memory card (which I still own to this day), because I rented Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain from Blockbuster. I remember that because I wrote Legacy of Kain on the label to the memory card. I can't recall if I wrote the date I purchased the memory card on the label or not...I'd have to look.

The PS1... good times. So many memories and for the Dreamcast, it was SEGA's last hurrah before they left the console market. When the PS2 came around, the Dreamcast was dead in the water. As for games, Mega Man Legends, FFIX, Spyro, Crash 3 and it goes on and on. For Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Project Justice, MvC2, Code Veronica and it just goes on and on.

Some awesome fighting games. I have my Jap copy of Capcom vs SNK. That gane was so much fun. RE:CV, Powerstone. Capcom hooked up the Dreamcast. Great console.

This video brings back memories.... Can’t believe its been 20years. My mate used to have a dreamcast and I had the PS1, and we’d be back and forth at each others houses playing games. Dreamcast was ahead of its time, I never got to see the online play, the joys of dial-up internet.

DarkShadowRage2 All I can say regarding the PC version is I wish you luck in getting a controller to work with the game (at least in the way you want it to work). The main reason I brought the game up was the Dreamcast version had a major visual overhaul. Compared to the likes of Dino Crisis (still an awesome game no matter which version you play). Either way I'll need to check your video out.

Man, I'm a little late for this reply, but this video takes me back. One thing I'll never forget was when my dad used to own a Playstation One and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, the opening cinematic for that game was fucking fantastic for the age it was in, I just remember how literally mind blowing it was to see Raziel cast into the abyss, or to see Kain rip apart Raziel's wings. God that takes me back man.

Thank you for making this video! I played the crap out of the PS throughout uni and grad school. I bought it for Street Fighter Alpha and picked up Battle Arena Toshinden and talk about mind blowing! Loved FFVII, DDR, Omega Boost, Crash, and TONS of other games I probably should not have played instead of studying LOL. As for the DC, I played a few games at friends' houses and didn't appreciate it nearly as much as I do now that I'm collecting. It blows my mind how good the system was. Some of my favorites include Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, Border Down and Ikaruga, although I still need to get on Confidential Mission and Typing of the Dead. Thanks again Alpha!

Hell yeah. Awesome video, Alpha. Not to mention PS1 had a lot of underrated series that Sony was willing to take a chance on. The Suikoden series is a personal favorite of mine and had its humble beginnings there. Hell, Sony was SO impressed with the likes of Suikoden for selling fairly well even though it wasn't a Square RPG that they took their chance with Legend of Dragoon! (amazing game)

I didn't think it was possible to love this channel anymore then I do. But, you love Legend of Dragoon and Valkyrie profile(More importantly Legend of Dragoon.) It truly was an amazing underrated game that deserved so much more attention. To this day it remains as my favorite game of all time, I make sure I replay it at least once a year and it's always my first recommendation when people ask me for great classic RPG's. Of course legend of dragoon also has sentimental attachment's for me, I remember seeing my father playing the game when I was a kid, I remembered seeing the scene with Lloyd stealing the Divine Dragon's spirit on disk three in Mountain of Mortal Dragon and when I got my own Playstation in' 03, when I was eight I spent that entire year going through my dad's game's trying to figure out where I'd seen that scene. I finally found it, and beat the game two or three time's before I figured out how addition's work. I have a love for the Resident Evil series for the same reason, I saw my dad play it and then played it myself when I got my system. Valkyrie profile is also an amazing RPG that every RPG and/or mythology fan should give a chance. I love mythology and ever since I was a kid I've been obsessed with the story of Odin and Norse mythology.

When I got my Playstation for Christmas I got it with Interactive 2 demo disc with Blasto and Crash Bandicoot and that system blew my friggin mind. My friend had a Dreamcast and had Sonic Adventure, Power Stone and WWF Royal Rumble and I fell in love with it and found the graphics were just as good as PS2 graphics in it's early days. So, when I finally got a Dreamcast for Christmas it came with the Generator Demo disc and I got Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure for it. Then I found out the Dreamcast seized production and I had to resolve to used game stores and ebay to get my games. What an awesome video!!

It's nice hearing someone else have similar memories. The Dreamcast was the first system I saved up my allowance for and bought myself. I remember how awesome the memory cards with the screen seemed at the time. Having a little side game that connected with the game, yet you could play it on the go, such an amazing feature. Of course, now companies are starting to do that with smartphones, but Sega was first. I've always felt the Dreamcast was ahead of its time. The quality of the games really should have been enough to save Sega as a company. P.S. Legend of Dragoon is my favorite RPG. I still hold out hope that someone will make a sequal.

I could sit here and list many a game that was great on the PS1 but I don't wanna be here all day so I'll just agree with all the games you listed Alpha :D. It was a great time to be a gamer in '99.

I remember Christmas of 2000 when I got my Dreamcast, which was the first console that I had ever owned and played. I was four years old at the time. Sonic Adventure was the very first video game I had ever played and I remember having so much fun with that game. I remember my first fight with Chaos 0, my first run through of Emerald Coast and the Egg Viper being the biggest pain in the ass when I was a kid. I remember having so much fun with Sonic Adventure. It would eventually come to be my favorite video game of all time. I didn't have many games for my Dreamcast through unfortunately. I had Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Dino Crisis, NBA 2K, Crazy Taxi and a demo disk that had the Sonic Adventure, Rayman and a few other game demos on it. I have so many memories with the Dreamcast. That system made me into the gamer that I am today and I was sad when mine stopped working. I had that thing for about 5-6 years before it decided to kick the bucket. I need to get another one at some point.

I have more memories of the Dreamcast than I do with the PS1 because I was only five years old in 1995 and with all of the more notable games either I was too young to play or couldn't understand them because I was just learning to read, so that meant no Resident Evil, Parasite Eve and Tomb Raider, Chrono Cross, etc. The Dreamcast on the hand, I remember very fondly. I played the hell out of Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Ready 2 Rumble, Daytona USA and RE: Code Veronica. It's those memories that lead me to picking up an Original Xbox (the controllers were nearly identical and had a similar library of games).

Nothing better than being a kid and experiencing all these older systems as they release. Back then it was a HUGE deal when a system would come out because unlike today where the systems get slightly better as they come out back then there was HUGE technological advancements so a new system really felt like you was getting the latest and greatest and couldnt wait to experience all the new games with the new capabilities.

These two systems were complete awesomeness! Best PS1 memory, playing Star Ocean 2, it wasn't my first RPG, but it was the first one I put a large amount of time into. I spent a total of 337 hours playing that game, leveling up characters, getting every item, fighting the strongest enemies it was a game that just pulled me in. My first trip into the Star Ocean made a fan of the series. Can't wait for the new one. Best Dreamcast memory, again another RPG, Skies of Arcadia, it just felt so new and original and the airship to airship combat was cool. Even though the characters didn't talk outside of few one word sayings they were fleshed out enough through their in game actions that I grew attached. I even got a sense of dread when you get to that part of the game where you go below the clouds into the abyss below Vyse's world. It was an awesome game and it kinda sucks that Sega never made anymore installments of it.

I've had my original PlayStation since Christmas of 1997. I got Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot 1-2, Twisted Metal 2, and Tomb Raider. It was an amazing time for me to get into the console because that next month, in January 1998, both Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy Tactics was released (two of my favorite games of all-time). 1998 was an amazing first year for me, with games coming out like MediEvil, Metal Gear Solid, Mega Man Legends, Parasite Eve, Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi, and more! I now own over 150 titles for the console. I got my Sega Dreamcast in October 1999 (my birthday and my Mom purchased it the day it came out, but I had to wait lol). I got The House of the Dead 2, Sonic Adventure, SoulCalibur, and Blue Stinger. 1999 was probably my second favorite year for gaming, in my opinion. With Final Fantasy VIII coming out the same time, I was alternating between the Dreamcast and playing Final Fantasy VIII. I own about 70 games for the console. I would say that 1998-2000 were my best years for gaming.

It's unfortunate you never played the arcade version, something about that shifting stick was so much better than using the face buttons, and the wheel was GREAT! I still hear in my sleep occasionally "hey, Hey, HEY...... STEP ON UP, play some CRAAAZY TAXI!"

Got the PS1 at UK launch, played lots of third party games. What I remember most is the disc drive laser keeps dying. and turning the system to the side or upside down to load games. I must of changed the laser 4 or 5 times. I imported a Japanese Dreamcast in March 1999. My first games were Sonic Adventure, VF3 and Sega Rally 2. Shortly after Power Stone, Soul Calibur, House of the Dead 2, Sega Bass Fishing etc. Been playing those quality titles before the US launch. After getting my system mod to play any country games that's a few weeks after the US and Europe launch. I picked up Crazy Taxi, still a classic and still remember the main theme music. Plus never forget playing Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Sonic Adventure 2, Shenmue 1 and 2, Daytona USA, Street Fighter 3 (plus all the other Capcom fighters), Ready to Rumble, Dead or Alive 2 and a lot more. I still remember picking up my PS2 in UK launch and and being bored of the console in the first 1 or 2 years. The quality games starting come out on PS2 is when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out. Good thing I was enjoying the Dreamcast in the time period to fill the gap.

I played my first and favorite RPG Final Fantasy VIII back in 99. That game opened a whole different world for me. Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Star Ocean, and other Final Fantasy titles (especially tactics) were among my favorites. It was all thanks to FF8, and I still beat that game annually to this day on my PS Vita

Back then, I remember getting Crash Bandicoot. The very first one, when I got my playstation. And even the first Rayman, I played the hell out of Crash, I never got very far in either of them, not til I got older. But the farthest I've gotten was in Spyro. Which still has the data on it to this day, I just need to collect all the gems. Does anyone remember Jade Cocoon? I loved it so much! always gonna be a favourite of mine. I always loved Bust-A-Move 4 as well, my grandmother got me into gaming. Always playing Puzzle games on the Gameboy and when she wasn't on there, she was playing Tetris on playstation. So many memories. I still have this old system with me today. Great memories, my nostalgia. :)

Speaking of fighting games, anyone remember Power Stone 2 and Psychic Force 2012 for the Dreamcast. Those are the only fighting games I was ever able to get into. Other than that, it got me into shooters with games like Slave Zero, and had one of the best boat racing games I have not seen since, Hydro Thunder. This video brought back a lot of memories.

i was always a castlevania fanboy, when symphony of the night came out on PSone, i remember i was one of the few that had that game, because 2D games were fazing out, which is why one of the reasons dreamcast is my favorite system, is because they had a ton of cool 2D games out, thanks to capcom, & i was still trying to get use to the 2D to 3D transition, so SoTN was instantly a must buy for me. but i don't remember it selling all that well, until like years later, it became one of those "oh shit, how did we miss this cool game" games. i think it had a re-release, because it seem to be in demand, but waay later. so, correct me if i'm wrong on that, but i seem to remember that happening. fantastic video!!

***** When I first got a ps1 around like 2000 or so when I was only like 5, the first things I had to play for it were a couple demo collections from playstation magazine. LoD was on one of them as a demo and I played it so many times through, and ended up getting the full game not long later from my family.

+FEZeldalord12345 So many people praise that game and it is indeed great! What I hate is the fact that many people claim that LoD is better than the Final Fantasy games released on that era. In my opinion, it is a great alternative but FF7 and FF9 kicked the ass of any rpg released during that era. PS: I still haven't played Suikoden.

Demon Ashes I don't like FFVII as much as the rest of the crowd(I like XIII more. *prepares flame shield*) but I do agree that FFIX is better than Legend of Dragoon. As for Suikoden, I don't think the first game is too special, but Suikoden 2 is tied for FFIX for the title of my favorite PS1 game.

***** I dont compare FF to LoD beyond the fact that the former overshadowed the latter. FF7, 8 and 9 are fantastic games(9 is my fave), and so is LoD, but there is a distinct difference in gameplay, storytelling, and artistic style between the two that they dont compare well

Got both of them for Christmas. Still have the boxes in the closet. Put them back in the box and bought a few of those 60 gig ps3 consoles that play the ps1, and 2 games and another dreamcast to play on. I kept them in pristine condition all these years. I'm playing spyro and crash right now on playstation. Just finished resident evil code veronica on dreamcast. I might play shenmue. I bought it a year or so ago and haven't played it yet.

In my mind Soul Caliber was the biggest graphical improvement in video game history so far. They really nailed down how everyone moved, and how the clothing and accessories moved. I was playing it with my brother and my whole family was watching just because of how cool it looked. It's going to take something like the Oculus Rift to match it.

The PS1 was definitely the console that defined gaming for me as a 90's kid, from Crash Bandiccot to Driver 1 & 2 to Silent Hill to Oddworld to Tekken, there were so many great titles on the system from a lot of genres.. I've never been a Jrpg fan though, so I didn't delve much into that genre..

I've been hearing a lot of people shitting on it lately and everyone that does can't grasp the timing combos. Yes, they suck at it but really it becomes second nature. +Ness Kirby As I said on other comment, my complaint is about the people who claim that it is better than FF7-9. If you played those games during that era, it was clear that Final Fantasy games were the most amazing rpg experience. Don't take me wrong. I love Legend of Dragoon but nowadays it is getting overrated. Take into consideration that I played LoD with my friends and I was the first to be able to finish it without a guide. My friends got stuck on a part where you were supposed to wait in line to be attended and I was able to know what to do in that place and they weren't (it was on a robot populated city on 3rd disc if I recall). You may think this is stupid shit but we had those kind of hiccups during the "non-internet" era. Too bad that Sony abandoned not only the franchise but also the genre.
