As is the case with me normally, I remember the song but not the artist, when it is a one-hit wonder. The song got a lot of play time on US radio, but I remember it more from the early 80s. Interesting fact about the origin of the song. Not surprising though.

@willieboy3011 hey Willieboy, yes it is hard to remember the names of so many of these one hit wonder bands/artists. The song came out in the late 70s so it makes complete sense that you identify it with the 80s 🤗💙

Nice choice Long time no hear Nick Gilder was in Sweeney Todd for Roxy Roller And of course had the great solo hit featured here After this he want on to a very successful song writing career and he co wrote the song Warrior for scandal which also hit #1 in Canada Making his achievement unique #1s for band , solo and writing for another artist He wrote for a lot of strong females artists , Patty Smyth and Pat Benatar and just listening to this i can hear how his songs gravitate toward the female voice Another song with city in the title with similar theme Just Enough for the City : Stevie Wonder Different City same issue , kids arriving in big city and not having a good experience

Nice to see Kim again, Sue .. She sure had her shoulders and head groovin' to this one .. Not a bad song, and yes his voice is very distinctive .. I have a preference for his other hit, '"Roxy Roller," which was released under his name ( not as Sweeney Todd ) here in Australia .. That's a cool song, but I actually thought it was a female singing it at first.😉

@wayne_twentyfive very interesting, Wayne that it was under Nick's name in Oz. I wonder why that was. Yes his voice especially in Roxy Roller...very high. He really does sound like a woman in that song. I totally see why you thought that. Yes Kim was enjoying this one for sure...sending her back to her childhood years. 🥰

Big hit in the States and Australia, but not a hit with my wife (an Aussie). I remember in 1980, my wife was driving me around the city of Melbourne when this tune came on the radio. I fist pumped the air, yelling out ''yes!'' and my wife (a girlfriend at the time) flicked the radio off. I asked her why she stopped playing the song, and she just said bluntly ''I hate this song! I hated it when I thought it was a chick singing it, and I hate it even more now that i know it's a dude''. She then tuned the radio dial to a community radio station called 3RRR, which was playing The Birthday Party (one of the most frightening Australian bands I ever saw - they wouldn't make a good kids' party). ''Now that's much better'' she concluded with authority.
