除了人名，故事和原著大約差了三百里。原著裡，諭哥兒的娘是秦姨娘，文姨娘生的是大小姐貞姐兒...要這麼大改原著，不如不要用這些人名，聽到人名我腦袋就會出現原著設定，然後看劇看到腦袋打結。

Lol. I get ya. I have watched many films and dramas where the book was totally different. One film comes to mind, 'A walk to remember'. I happened to read the book before watching the movie. The book had more emotion and I couldn't get it out of my head as I watched the movie. Even though the movie was a tear jerker and really good I'm still wondering if there would be another film not just based on the book but go by the book. 🤔🙄

Not his choice. Men had one wife at a time which was usually the parents' choice. People could gift you concubines and you'd have to accept out of courtesy or to keep peace. If you rejected a gift from someone who is politically significant, you risk getting your family killed. Plus, with his status, there would have been a lot of gossip if he had just one woman in his life. People would have accused his wife of being a jealous b***h or think he's secretly impotent or into men. Or if he doesn't manage to have a lot of sons and still insists on being with only one person, he would have been considered immoral and selfish to prioritize his personal desires of being monogamous over the good of his family and the propagation of his lineage. Plus, concubines were hardly competition. They had no status in the home, no decision-making abilities, and had to obey their husband and his wife. Their kids don't even call them mom. In his particular case, he was tricked into taking on a good number of his concubines by his late wife, Shiyi's eldest sister. It may not be the case for this particular concubine (can't remember), but it was the case for a good half of his concubines. His late wife had a habit of tricking him into walking into the room where a woman was changing. Being the righteous guy he is, he took them as concubines to save their honor. His wife did that because she noticed those women trying to seduce her husband and was afraid he'd take them on as wife after she dies. By tricking him into taking them as concubines while she was still alive, she made it such that these women could never become his wife. He was well aware of her antics and tolerated her and treated her with respect purely out of duty.
