I had an Yamaha xt500 and wonder if it is possible to turbo that single cylinder 4 stroke air cooled engine... cool it with oil only? and where do I tap into the oil line? Can you turbo one as an bike build? That would be great!

onhawaii Well, you are not wrong ! HOW ? Anybody can bolt a turbocharger to an engine. And, I am sure the good, old long-stroked workhorse 500cc engine is just delighted with being force-fed hot air....don´t think the turbo edition is a winner at all...

Morten Kristoffersen Well if you do not try to force to much into the cylinder and the compression of it is more on the low side I think that will be no problem. I do not think that this is something for anybody to do since there are certain things you have to keep in mind to make it work well. And of course you need the air to be cooled down first. The long stroke in no problem at all it might even be better to turbo because the rpm is not that high when you begin with. You might have to get stronger bearings and more parts like the piston upgraded. I don't think that to just mount a turbo to it is enough... if you do not want to blow up the engine.

You are not wrong, but it is simply pointless. It is not the best engine for a tuning project, was never built for that.
