30 years later, his character was speaking truth to power and was ultimately proven right.

1:54 Happy is supposed to be a villain in this movie, but what he says right here is exactly true. Free tuition and free room/board are definitely nothing to sneeze at, but the schools and the coaches make MILLIONS of dollars off of the talents of their athletes.
@markg.10786 жыл бұрын
Well, you pretty much said what I wanted to, but probably in a more articulated way. In order to stay competitive you just about have to cheat. Probably 80% of these young men who are blue chip athletes out of high school come from broken, or poor families. Many of them have probably never seen 20 or $30,000 all at once. Some of these recruiters and "Friends of the program" start waving enough money, and signatures are soon to follow. No matter how good of a coach the coach is, he needs not just race horses, but thoroughbreds.

Yeah there is an argument for both sides. Should players get financial compensation on top of scholarships and room/board? Yes, but to a certain degree. Should schools be able to buy there players? Absolutely NOT, but how do you figure this problem out??

The late great JT Walsh played great villains like this real well. His best work along with backdraft, tequila sunrise, red Rock west, Hoffa, breakdown, good morning Vietnam, etc.

If John Glover delivered the most repellent villains in films in the 1980’s, then JT Walsh assumed that mantle in his portrayals of corrupt men in films of the 1990’s.

Sir, you're incorrect. He is not a villain here. He is the HERO! He does what's right and got the athletes paid.

@King Arthur I was just about to comment something like this. Growing up I thought he was the villain, as an adult who has seen how hypocritical the NCAA is, he is the hero.

Happy is absolutely right! Some these coaches salaries are in the millions. A lot of people attend games just to see one player. Universities make millions from tv ads to shoe deals, sponsor ships, etc. Yet these young men can't get paid for working? At the end of the day it's a job. These young men put in countless hours and years of hard work, plus the money parents pay for camps, road trips, trainers, etc to perfect their talent. Most of these young men come from poor backgrounds. Michigan Fab and the O'Bannon brothers were perfect examples. Colleges used their names and likeness to sell video games and jersey but these young men were eating ramen noodles. Smfh.

Here’s the thing. The kid is getting to go to college for free. Most likely also having his grades “assisted” and all the while he’s a superstar on campus banging perfect 18 year olds 3 at a time. For playing basketball Meanwhile you have the average student.struggling to keep up grades and most likely working a real job to still not be able to afford tuition rent. Etc. Student athletes have it pretty good without being paid. You want to get paid? Go pro
