:) Honestly I think this should have been so obvious to me, but it took working with a few flat butt ladies to realize the wrinkles on their back legs was caused by the angle of the CB seam.... I tried everything else to smooth those wrinkles before it occurred to me! Thanks for fitting along with me

Thank you - my shape has changed over the years and this will be very helpful when drafting up future pants patterns. I’ve always wondered how I could fix that on my pattern. I usually fix it on my pants by splitting the crotch and taking little off at a time on those crotch points and blending back in . Your way would really make it more simple. I don’t do recording but I do put my phone on a tripod & take pictures of my sewing makes & it really helps me to see the fit & what corrections I need to make. I also use 2 mirrors . I can sit back though & really study the photos for some time.

Great tip. I have this issue. My pants tend to have a smile of wrinkles on my backside 🤣🤣 I do mens alterations and am able to take out the fullness from trousers at the center back seam and/or upper leg fullness which is not easily done on womenswear, unfortunately
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Smiles can be caused when the waistline at the side seam is pulled up too high. Also, I find it fascinating that men's trousers have a huge CB seam allowance at the waistline that tapers to an smaller seam at the base of the crotch so they can be let out! ...and I agree, it does seem men's trousers are so much easier to alter! Thanks for fitting along with me
@AngelaWoolsey Жыл бұрын
@@JSternDesigns Pulling sides of the pants up too high…That sounds like me. Lol I’ve been sewing for over 30 years (basically self taught) but I rarely sew for myself. It was when I decided to start working on my own wardrobe, that I learned of your channel from Inside The Hem channel. You are a wealth of valuable information and I appreciate all the work you put into sharing that information with us.

I love your info videos! have a flat but because it went south lol I get wedgies if the crotch curve isn’t right. My back rise is 4” longer than the front. How do I draft it so the back isn’t longer than the front? I guess the 4” is in the crotch curve.
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I'm finding that using the Top Down Center Out Method of balancing the leg using a separate waistband and single leg muslin eliminates the need to figure out what the front and back crotch lengths are... Add 2"- 4" to the top of your waistline so you can raise or lower the CF/CB edges until you get the crotch to hang right :) Here's a link to my review of TDCO showing how to prep your pattern pieces. Hope this helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYnYoGSvp6topNk

I’m intrigued by this. I’m going to try this in combo with my inseam flat butt adjustment but I’m wondering, I always have to grade out to a larger waist size. Could I add to the CB for this adjustment and *not* subtract from the side?Would that mess up the grain across my backside?
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
:) Yes you can adjust the CB to straighten it and not take in the side seam... You can always fine tune the adjustment in your muslin. Typically, moving the CB seam straighter (away from the side seam) will only help the grain of your pants.... The center of the leg marked by the vertical grainline can get too close to the CB edge... especially if you have a flat butt. Thanks for fitting along with me
@Sewprano Жыл бұрын
Great tip!!! Thanks! Will this adjustment make my trousers tighter around the bottom of my bum as well? My very flat bum 😂
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
:) Thanks! Try pinning the excess out down the center of your back leg. If you can remove fabric from waistline to hem, split the pattern and overlap the pieces to remove the excess ease. If this makes the leg too snug, add the width back half along the inseam and half along the side seam. Hope this helps, thanks for fitting along with me

I would love your help with my pants , mostly purchased, issues because I don’t even know where to start. I am a slim (117 lb) but long in the stride, short (5’3.5”) 67 year old grandmother 😁, with relatively wide hips, and flat-ish backside that transition to skinny thighs. All pants seem to bag at the top of my thighs…except maybe leggings and I don’t wear leggings. How do I reduce the bagging??? Please help.
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
:) It sounds like the size that you need to purchase to fit around your full hip ends up being too big below your full hip and upper thigh. You can remove some of the excess bagginess under your butt by sewing deeper along the inseam. Test the amount you need to remove by using a long length straight stitch so you can take it out to adjust if necessary.... Start at the knee and gradually blend away from the seam so by the time you get to the crotch, you're about 1/2" or so from the original seam ... then sew back down the opposite leg to the knee. If this seems to make it better you can sew it permanently... Or you can take the inseam apart and just trim off the excess along the back inseam (leaving the front the same). You'll be able to tell if you can just take it off the front and back when you baste... If it makes the front inseam too far forward, just take it off the back). Hope this helps! Thanks for fitting along with me
