This is super, Jennifer! And I agree--Ruth Collins's TDCO method is a great way to fit pants. You two are an excellent pairing!

Thanks Carol, Ruth is amazing, I feel so blessed that she is so generous with her time, helping me get up to speed on fitting Trousers!! Anyone can message her at @ithacamaven on instagram If they have TDCO questions!

Thank you--I sew sporadically, and it has been a while since I made trousers--am now a larger size than years past when I had a pattern I loved, but also have a slacks & jeans pattern I want to try & need to pay attention to adjusting the pattern before I cut my fabric, and glad I found your channel!

:) You can do it!!! It does take practice and patience. If you find you'd like to join me for a pants fitting class, I am offering one on Jan. 20. This hybrid class is a great opportunity to see me working with the fit muslin on other students because there is a hands-on in person class with just 3 virtual spots for students. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out! mastertheartofsewing.com/the-whole-scoop-remote.html

@@JSternDesigns thanks Jen, I can’t make this one but will look for a future session. I am going to try the crotch adjustment to move up the crotch you showed in the previous Fit Tip Tuesday because that is the main issue. I am definitely looking forward to seeing your new pattern. I will be watching Thursday with the joint live with Saremy ❤️

Great tips & tutorial. I’m finding for my fit using the TDCO & doing French seams down the back gives me best fit. I want to try a fish eye dart down back to reduce bagginess just a little more.
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Instead of doing a fisheye dart, give this pattern adjustment a try... It works great! kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3zRiWVmqNl-q5Y

@@JSternDesigns Thank you, I’m going to have to try it. No taking off sides and inseams doesn’t work.

If you make a perfectly fitting pant sloper pattern with the crotch shape optimized to fit you, and then wanted to use it to make a pant with a wider leg style, could you just adjust the leg part of the pattern without changing anything about the crotch area or would that not work correctly and you would have to lengthen the crotch as well? For context, I've been spending a lot of time trying to create a perfect fitted pant sloper hoping the adjustments would be very simple to create different styles going forward but maybe I was wrong about that. Thank you so much for your informative videos!
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
That's a good question! The answer is yes and no. Yes, you can create a wider leg style, but if you don't add to the crotch points as well as the inseams, the crotch seam will fit the same. This can be ok if the crotch is not fitted snugly around you (like jeans or fitted slacks) & the fulless of the leg starts at the upper thigh. But if you let out the side seams through the full hip and leg, it will create a shape that's looser and relaxed.. with the crotch curve still snugged against you. Hope this helps! How/where do I adjust my back pattern excess if tummy/waist is large, but hips/ butt is small?

Great content! My back rise is 4” longer than the front. I want to know how to draft with a backside 4” longer, but I think that 4” is in the scoop of the crotch and up. People say I don’t have an ass lol but that’s because it went south. I look forward to Fridays episode. Cute tights!
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
:) If you have a flat butt that went south, you probably do need more length in the back... Check my response to your second comment. I put a link in to how to prep your pattern pieces by adding to the waistline edge. This will allow you to play with the position of the CB edge ...I think this will fix it for you!

Why is the knee line never indicated on a pant pattern?
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
:) They are on mine! ... The knee line is not important if you're working with Culottes and Trouser patterns because the grading tends to stay the same from waist to hem. With Slacks and Jeans, the grading narrows towards the knee to create a slim leg... The most narrow part of the leg can be positioned at the knee. If that's the case with the pattern you're working with, getting the knee into the right spot is important. If there isn't a line printed on the pattern, you can draw it in where is should be for the pattern you're working with. Hope that helps! (I feel like I should have said all of this in the video, thank you so much for asking the question!)

:) I got my tech support husband in here yesterday... Interestingly, I needed him to help me set up multiple screen sharing for my Joint Live event with @sewsewlive tomorrow at 4:00 pm. In the process of doing that I mentioned to him that my audio sucks. So he did a deep dive to figure that out too. Apparently, OBS and my Black Magic Box don't like 44 khz... We switched to 48 khz and my audio sounds much better. Fingers crossed that that's the end of it!! Thanks for fitting along with me!
