3.25 +/- .25 nose, and 4.50 +/- .50 inches on the mains is the measurement of chrome supposed to be showing on your landing gear. The chrome looks small to me but it could just be on the video. Good info to know just incase you ever need the nitrogen topped off for proper measurement. 1D17 section 2-38 of the service manual.

Happy New Year Russ. It’s funny last night I get a text from my girlfriend saying that she’s watching a video from “Russ can Fly” going to Block Island and I should check it out. I said I discovered Russ’s videos a couple of months ago and they’re really good. She said you greased your landing at B.I. 😊 I told her I corresponded with you a little bit through the comments and said we’d try to connect sometime when you’re in the New England area. BTW I’m on the events committee with RIPA Rhode Island Pilots Association and we do a lot of cool fly-ins all over New England as well as safety seminars. I’ll keep you posted on any events that I think you might be interested in. Take care Russ. Sincerely Gary Frazier. 🛬

Wow, definitely keep me posted! I would love to do some fly ins in that area. I really enjoy my time in Block Island, so I would definitely love to do some lines and meet some other aviators. Take care, happy new year, and thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Keep me posted on the fly ins!!!

Happy New Year! Outstanding outlook for 2025. Your openness about your struggles learning IFR is refreshing. Keeps us humble. And practicing for precision is what its all about. I'll definitely check out FlightCraft (ya just gotta love that). Also, look into having the block heater plugged into a remote switch or one that cycles power (it'll save you time and keep the oil at a more "normal" temp while stored.)

Thank you so much! Yeah, I always wanna be as transparent as possible. That actually makes the journey better, because sometimes I get very wise counsel from many of you. I wanna thank you for your consistent support of the channel. It has been greatly appreciated. Also, I thank you for the recommendation about a remote switch for the plug. Somebody mentioned a device, and I’ve checked it out and gonna try to get my hands on one. Take care, and happy new year!

Russ, Happy New Year! I keep my nose plugs in and place a couple of moving blankets on the top cowl. You need a SwitcheOn so you can text in advance and get that oil warming up before you leave for the airport. Good luck on the instrument rating...it's worth the hard work. Hope we can meet up for a breakfast run soon. Be safe, be well.

Happy New Year, Russ... Congratulations to the young lady on stepping out into the business word on faith. Just a suggestion... Ask her to contact/visit flight schools and solicit their interest on creating awards for their student pilots as they advance. And, once her business gets off the ground she can get local businesses of all types interested in employee of the month, retirement awards. And, the most visible... Schools... achievement awards and plaques for academics, athletics, etc... Best wishes for her success.

The oil in my Cherokee 180 temperature seems to remain kind of low also in the winter, but I’ve watched savvy Aviation KZbin videos about engine oil and I’m not sure that temperature affects viscosity and lubrication as much as you think. It definitely begs the question what temperature is too low, and why is low temperature bad. We should submit that question on ask the an and P podcast to get the expert opinion of Mike Bush, Colleen, and Paul that’s a great program for aircraft owners to listen to.
@RusscanFLY9 күн бұрын
That is an excellent point about the oil temperature and viscosity and definitely something that should be investigated further. The only thing I do worry about is not removing enough of the condensation from the engine and the oil, and having it continue to build up in the engine. Definitely interesting questions for sure.
@reyesben9 күн бұрын

I wonder if the oil is to thick. Can you try using a thinner oil
@RusscanFLY9 күн бұрын
No, you wanna stick to the same viscosity of oil. Going thinner could really damage the engine.
@captainhml38689 күн бұрын
So is your V1 rotate speed a lot quicker when it's colder? (I sail, don't fly 😊. Sorry for ignorant question😊)
@Parr4theCourse9 күн бұрын
Density Altitude is lower when it’s cold so the plane “thinks” it’s at a lower altitude near or even below sea level so it performs better using less runway before V1, opposite during hot weather plane needs more runway before airborne. Where do you sail? We took up sailing a couple years ago!
@RusscanFLY9 күн бұрын
The speed stays the same, it just gets there quicker, and the climb is better just because of the density of the air!
