I have the same problem with my grandma. She's pretty conservative and when she told me to follow a medical career because I'm supposedly very smart,I told her that I wanted to pursue art. She told me I would starve and I told her I didn't care,but ever since then I've kind of been unable to finish any drawings (I still draw tho) for a few months even though it's summer and I have so much free time. I think that made me want to prove myself to everyone around me though

the most possible way for me to make a career out of art is through social media but good god it's so hard to gather audience. I've been trying to gain some number of followers for like 3 years now and I couldn't even hit 100. It frustrates me so much I feel like maybe art should just stay as a hobby T.T

BlackShiya Make sure you're tagging enough, lol. I sometimes forget that. I've heard that can really make a difference. Also, look for Facebook groups or other groups on other social media. That kind of stuff.

this is the most exciting, inspirational video I have seen. I've been stuck designing websites this week and pigeonholing myself in the ultra minimal, all sans serif, clean design. It feels so dry and "markety". I miss producing things that wowed people for its originality and I think you really helped me consider bringing that back
@koshagoetz45317 жыл бұрын
When you sell art out of your gallery, do you sell them with the frames included? I just started selling pieces out of a small art show in a local bar and I have been selling them with the frames. The problem is that when I get things custom framed, the frames are SO EXPENSIVE that I really have to jack up the price of the painting and then they don't sell but when I use really cheap frames (that I don't particularly like) they sell like hot cakes. I noticed that you collect antique frames from flea markets that tend to be cheaper and save you money. Do you look for frames that only come in your typical size and dimensions or do you just focus on how the frame looks and the price and quality of the frame? I have a frame from a flea market that was gifted to me but it is such a strange shape and size that I don't even know what I would paint to go with it. ... It's a hexagon.

This was an absolute delight to watch! Painting itself is beautiful, but to see it come to life through all the subtle changes like this just blew me away! I can also totaly relate to the topic of this video (yes, I too figured many years ago that landing a gallery and a few wealthy collectors would be the way to go ;) ) Oddly enough I noticed that you signed the painting and then went on with the finishing touches - sooo glad I'm not the only one!!!

Hey Happy ! Thank you so much for making this video with your as always beautiful painting time lapses. Recently, an alumni from my art school who I look up to tweeted something like, " 98% of artists are not successful" and that has been giving me so much anxiety. When I saw this, I clicked on the video immediately. Thank you for giving me some hope.

Concept artist? Graphics designer? Animator? There are sooo many options other than the two explained here. Not that there is anything wrong with selling paintings at galleries or through social media, but there truly is a spectrum of choices, and a bit of a false dichotomy was suggested here that just isn’t the reality. Ultimately though, just seeing where your art takes you is excellent advice, and trial and error may be needed before you find what’s right for you.

the things is I have passions, but not much can be made out of them. I love the piano but am not AMAZING at it compared to those who play on a stage, I love reading manga and learning languages but translating is often just a side hobby and people aren't well off with it, and frankly I don't want to go to art school because they are very focused on ISSUES and ABSTRACT and MEANING while I just like to draw things that make me happy and look beautiful. Frankly when you showed your artwork at 0:12 I was so happy seeing beautiful art that didn't necessarily have a deep deep meaning like a square in a corner and fifty dots in the middle of a blank page might. It just seems so useless and confusing of what I could do besides live off patrons and MAYBE sell art online.

It is indeed a difficult road. I am an introvert myself. Although I am getting better at the social media aspect of being an artist I have to force myself in a way to do it. Don't get me wrong: I love the interaction with people and receiving any feedback. But on the other hand I also wish I could just hide among my art and indulge in it without having to bother being social sometimes. I do my best with learning how and when to use hashtags while trying not to drown in the pile of accounts, logins and a fulltime job on top of it but I secretly hope a fairy will do that for me one day because it is a scary maze! I do quite enjoy going live on Facebook on the other hand. Not that I have many viewers but you have to start somewhere right? Now proceeding to watch the rest of these amazing video's until I am back on track. Being in hospital set me back 3 months! I seriously need to catch up!
