Definitely as good of an Ascot course specialist as I've seen. Might've been a shoe-in to win the Arc if it were run at Ascot, but I think he would've found Longchamp on ground rated "very soft" a very different kettle of fish considering he'd only won on good or good to firm ground throughout his career. In his final two starts of 2009 he finished a well beaten last of 7 at York in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes and then finished 3rd in the G3 St Simon Stakes at Newbury, beaten 6-1/4 lengths by the filly High Heeled with Shadwell stayer Tastahil finishing 2nd on the soft Newbury going. Also, the ground at Longchamp for the Arc, if he'd gotten to run was very much against him being listed as very soft. Harbinger would've also been facing by far the deepest field of his career to that point. Workforce, Cape Blanco, & Youmzain were in opposition again from the King George, but also in the field were Japan's Nakayama Festa who Workforce barely held off to win the Arc that day, along with Victoire Pisa who 5 months later would win the G1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan. Also in the field were two very talented 3YO's owned by the Aga Khan in the filly Sarafina and the colt Bekhabad. And lest we forget, Cape Blanco after having won the Irish Derby, Irish Champion Stakes, and with a King George 2nd was considered Coolmore's second string in the race behind multiple G1 winner Fame and Glory who came into the race on a bit of roll himself from consecutive wins in the Mooresbridge Stakes, Tattersalls Gold Cup, Coronation Cup, & Royal Whip Stakes. It's speculation, but given the soft ground conditions and how much deeper the Arc field was, I personally think it's a little bit of a stretch to think Harbinger would've won the Arc too, but again that's speculation on my part and only my own personal opinion.

That's what you call a great horse. Every beaten horse in that race won a group race after being trounced by Harbinger and I backed all of them, still to this day I can't believe Cape Blanco's SP for the Irish champion. The form of Harbingers King George win surpasses everything achieved by Frankel who beat only donkeys.

With all respect this horse should not be at stud. Soundness was not his gift.

@@robertdelacy3434 yes . BUT the breeder in me is always cautious of such sires. You're creating a living breathing animal and the legs are the foundation.
