This is a new harbor freight 2 ton floor jack, normally costs 30 bucks. Ok for lifting sedans, not anything taller.

I think the downvotes are the clickbait title and the shaky camera. But actually this is very good information for youngsters (or anyone) looking to buy their first diy garage tools. Sure I know now, but I once bought larger jack stands thinking only that they'd be safer - only to find that the jack I already owned wouldn't lift the car high enough to even slide the new stands under. So when you're just starting out these things might not be so obvious. As you say these jacks can still have their uses.
@get-the-lead-out.45936 жыл бұрын
If having to remove a tire, most often you should lift the vehicle under the control arm ( I own 4x4 trucks and so the jack goes under the rear or front axle) so the tire almost instantly starts to raise off of the ground once you started pumping the jack. If you lift the vehicle under it's body, this will most often just lift the body up while the suspension/axle/tire will just keep relaxing down thus doesn't lift off of the ground or will only lift very little off of the ground
@hybrid324946 жыл бұрын

The jack is OK, while it works, ... you just need to buy one that goes up enough for the height of the vehicle you plan to used it on. The piece of wood would do the job for around a 2" extra lift. Regardless the above, beware: I had this same jack and used it about 10 times. Worked fine until the last time, when one of the metal supports (arms) that hold it up just twisted and the car dropped! So, I am sad to say that this item is quite dangerous.
@ghostlygaming86743 жыл бұрын
how did you get more height on the jack? and what would you recommend to get higher of the ground.
@hybrid324943 жыл бұрын
hey bro! I recommend using a piece of 1x2 wood and putting it on top of the cup that raises and makes contact with the car's chassis. It's good idea, most jacks tend to use a piece of wood to absorb some of the metal to metal impact.

I know the average weight of a 6 cyl pickup is about 3k pounds. At 4k pounds (prob actually around 3800 max) it seems like a 2 ton jack would be able to lift most rears or fronts of most pick ups / SUVS. I'm wondering how these cheaper jacks hold up against older manufactured japanese or american jacks. Have these cheaper jacks from harbor freight broken down on you after 10 or more uses?

I use this same jack when working on my 2011 Camry. No complaints at all as far as reliability (used it over 10 times). Though it's too small to lift the entire front of my car without 4in of wood.
@AlexTechie5 күн бұрын
@@Aziz-wl1xf >Though it's too small to lift the entire front of my car without 4in of wood. Found this out the hard way. And it's not necessarily the jack's fault. I shopped around and I question just how many budget jacks have enough max height to get the tires off the ground when lifting the car from the front. Sure, some go up a bit higher, but it'd have to be at least 2in higher (this jack goes up to 13in). I'm also reading around that it's generally good practice to use a block of wood so the weight is distributed and it's more stable, along with the fact that it reduces scraping the metal on both the vehicle and the jack. With that said, finding a 1ft 4x4 piece of wood, when you need it, sucks ass. If you don't have the block of wood, an electric saw (or even a hand saw), expect to pay $20.
@Aziz-wl1xf5 күн бұрын
@@AlexTechie I came up with a good solution over time. The main reason I was lifting from the front was to put jack stands under the lateral jack points. What I later discovered was that I can jack up the car by the subframe bolts and still have plenty of room to place jack stands under the pinch welds. The added benefit is that the subframe bolt is lower relative to the pinch weld on my car so I can jack it up quite high. Prior to this, I was using 2 half-foot 2in blocks stacked on top of each other, they were easy to find at HomeDepot where they even cut it for you for free. As far as alternative jacks, there are plenty that lift much higher than this one, for example Harbor Freight's "DAYTONA 3 Ton Long-Reach Low-Profile Professional Floor Jack with RAPID PUMP", which lifts up to 24.25in. There are also cheaper ones that lift up to about 18in. I'd buy one without thinking twice if I had space to store it. Sure, they are all in the $150-300 range vs. the measly $35, but you get what you pay for and that's really not a big amount compared to what you save doing your own work.

+hybrid32494 yeah especially things like lifted trucks that have about a thousand inches of suspension travel lol. I'm sure this thing will work in a pinch I just prefer bigger jacks that you can throw right under the frame and toss the truck up in the air, but full disclaimer my craftsman jack is pretty small too so I'm not trying to talk shit lol, and at the end of the day if you can get the wheels off the ground with a cheaper jack than that's a win!

Tell you something: your spare jack that come inside you car trunk, is safer that all these utter horrible floor jacks. Never use one of these $40 floor jacks other than for the occasional flat tire on the side of the road and even then - never get any body part under a car supported by these absolute and dangerous junks. It's not a problem with the Pittsburgh brand - they have other amazing floor jacks and tools, it's the problem with the industry how is putting on the market these very very low cost products. If you ever buy car parts (suspension, bushings, tie rods, etc) you already know that the market is flooded with $5 car parts that last from a few days to at best 2 months. That's what's happening with the market today: all companies are selling very very low quality parts at incredible low prices that have absolutely no durability and quality to them - why ? - simply because unfortunately there are buyers for these, so who says buyers says profits.

The title of the video is a bit unfair.. Don't you think? This is a compact trolley, you shouldn't be using that on any SUV... LoL
@hybrid324947 жыл бұрын
clickbait title, lol. Sorry. But this was my first real jack I was probably too harsh on it and had my expectations set too high. BTW the jack is still fine, works well.

For better operation, it's suggested you always bleed it so there won't be any air inside it and it'll lift easier. Those trolley jacks are mostly meant for smaller and lower cars, I don't know why they claimed it can tow light trucks. I have this trolley jack on my small car and the 3 ton heavy duty on the trucks and works great.

I bought this jack today for my everyday driver car. It'll only be used to change a flat tire if it ever happens. For the $30 bucks it should do fine.

You are putting the jack under incorrectly.
@hybrid324943 жыл бұрын
hey buddy! I have since realized the proper way to jack up a taller car is under the A-arm, thank you. This jack is still working fine.
@krisdphillips5 жыл бұрын
Looks like it didn't fail. Way to f*** up the title.
@boastyy3 жыл бұрын
Dont jack up your car like that. Jack should always be perpendicular to the car not at an angle.
@hybrid324943 жыл бұрын
hey bro! Yes, good point! I was only doing this for the video demonstration. OFcourse in the future the jack is always in the correct position, thanks for the good advice and your view.

@@hybrid32494 No problem, had to comment did not want you to have an accident. Take care man, thanks.

hahaha, Good one! I agree, I didn't use the jack properly in this video. I have since figured out a better way, and this jack is perfect. Anyway, I'm not a car mechanic, I'm a regular dude, I made a mistake, I can accept that.

hey buddy! So I still have this jack to this day and it has not failed. I use it pretty frequently, and I have realized that if you jack up the taller cars under the suspension arms it works perfectly also. So it's a good buy overall.

hey buddy! I still own this jack and it has not let me down. The RAV4 is not a real SUV, it's fairly light and a 4-Cylinder.
