nice, very good point on choosing your working surface carefully. you need a flat solid level surface. If your surface shifts or wheels can't roll smoothly your jack will shove your vehicle away from you, if you're already up on 2 stands and your vehicle shifts 2" you know what might happen. personally If lifting a vehicle off all 4 wheels I'll use 6 stands total and make sure it sits rock solid. I often have my dog working with me, she'll be in, out and under the car at her will so I take no chances when playing with another things life. Kinda weird, I didn't take safety as serious until another life was at stake

I would normally agree with you to use the jack on a solid surface. But I have a gravel driveway that I trust and I frequently jack up my vehicles with the jack on my gravel driveway. But my gravel driveway is solid as concrete. I had a concrete porch put in a few years ago and the mason had some gravel left over and asked if he could drop it in my driveway. Since my driveway was needing new gravel anyway I said sure. The gravel was mixed with dust which I recognized as road base. I have had my pick up truck jacked up on that gravel for weeks in all kinds of weather. The jackstands didn't sink any at all. But this is not your typical gravel driveway.

The instructions are piss poor. They should have a schematic identifying the parts and lubricating points. They should mention to close the valve.

I am disappointed with it. It wouldn't lift the frontend of my Intrepid up. They are 3,373 to 3,471 lbs so it should of lifted it. I tried a cement block and it still wouldn't lift the front of it.

I used this jack to lift up a little bit, so I can place a 20 ton Bottle Jack to lift the rest for the vehicle. Then I would place a Jack Stand.
